How can we as a nation/continent/world stop this ever-increasing problem of poverty and starvation? How can we pressure our govenrments into increasing the supportHow can we get the other governments to accept these increases without trying to make a prifit on it thru black market? It is very difficult to teach someone anything over the grumbling noise from the stomachs. Is this a problem that there is no answer to?

I think the main probelm is we are to busy looking at the rest of the world instead of our own back yard. If we are unable to solve our own poverty issue how can we truely solve the world? I think if Canada and the US start taking care of there issues first we then can show the world how to sholve there. The second thing is greed and a countries debt. When a country can not pay off its debt why after 10 years we wipe the slate clean. I owe you this amount, but you own me this amount so boom thats debt is wiped out. But no, greed blinds us. Greed is going to be our downfall and the stone in our coffin.

It puzzles me how two of the richest countries in the world has so many people living before the poverty line. There is so much food wasted in these countries that could be used. Here is an idea; lower the cost of the food so it is affordable to more. That would mean more product being sold and less wasteage thus actually INCREASING the profit. But that will not happen.

I think one small way is to form some band or group so that like minded people in the west can visit and raise some people in poor countries so that these poor people can really do something worthwhile for their own people 10 years later. I think poor people need capital and ideas, and that people in the rich countries can help, then poor people themselves can take up the project. I don't know if this idea is feasible though!!!

The idea itself is good! However,i wonder how the local governments would react to "outsiders" trying to solve the problems. Many believe someone only does something for some type of personal gain.To get a third-world (or any) government to allow foreigners in are unlikely.

..I actually think it would be better if the people were motivated to organize and do something.. I'm just too leery of giving government anymore resources and control over things.. more programs, bigger governemnt.. keeps morphing that way seems to me.. oh well, pardon my paranoia.. - I guess we want the governments to do something because we don't know what to do about it.. Ya know I had a dream once that rivers of waters were flowing out of all the churches.. out into the streets and the world.. I think the churches dropped the ball.. now all we're gonna be stuck with is big brother.. It's crazy that there are so many things in the world that should be fixed.. like starvation and genocides.. but what it would take, perhaps is a large and strong union of nations to (first of all agree) and form or better yet strengthen a world governing body.. But no sooner will they agree.. but they'll likely start to abuse the great power now in their hands.. Well, I guess what we can do is pressure our country's governemt to get involved.. send resources.. money.. teachers and workers.. Isn't that what you said to begin with? Hey, great idea.. I think I'm going to have to get my senator's e-mails, and get in the habit of paying attention and sending off an opinion when I have one.. look how much good they did when people started to speak out against and look into "aparteid" in South Africa.. :))

I thank you for responding to this question. As pointed out in your note,as soon as we would try to do something as a world nation, there would be people and governments trying to profit from it.But please do let your senetor and everyone else know your thoughts and feelings!

I think the only way to solve the problem is a global response.I do not see it happening though as money is still the King and profit the puppeteer to most companies.

you do it first by having fewer children. we are at a point where resources are going to start getting thin and either need to kill the old people or have fewer babies. This goes for all people everywhere.

I wish the world would stop being so selfish and band togeather to stop world wide hunger...This world holds enough food so that no one child or adult should go hungry...I pray that eyes will open up so belly's could fill up...

Breath,I agree with you.And as the financial picture of the world continues to change radically,I think some of the "have nots" will improve and some of the "have" countries will find themselves in a bad position. As long as the problem is looked at by country after country, the problem will just be moved about the world and increase in size.

I think it starts not with a nation or a government of a continent rather it start with ourselves. Nothing can be done if one is not cooperative enough to reach this goal. One thing is for parents to be more aware of there surroundings and think of a good family planning before making lots of children that they really can't support.
