I have a Rottie that just adopted a family of kittens, and their mother as well. She must be a stray becaue I neuter and spay all my animals. I was wondering what strange noises were comming from my porch. There were 2 kittens in my Rottie's bed. I waited and here came momma cat with a kitten in her mouth and my Rottie with a kitten in hers as well. Poor little kitty was covered in dog slobber! There are now 5 kittens, mamma cat and my Rottie fussing over the kittens. The Rottie is in her bed with mamma cat curled up tightly against her and the kittens have snuggled themselves in between. One big happy family. If I can figure out how to send a picture I will. This is just priceless!!!!!

That is so beautiful, animals are amazing, they seem to have more compassion the us humans sometimes....we could learn a lot from them...

Oh I can imagine that is adorable. We once had a male collie adopt a litter of kittens. The mother was a stray who got killed by going to close to the road when they weren't quiet weened. (We lived in the country then and some distance from the road but it only takes once). The male collie adopted the litter and would even try to nurse them, not that he could but he would let them try. We should all take a lesson from our critters and see that differences do not matter. We should all try to help one another.

I absolutely love it! Rotties are so smart and to see one be so gentle with a kitten, okay he did slobber on it, but that is so sweet! I love to see animals interact and to see such good behavior is heart warming. I have ended up with abandoned kittens before and it required that I deflea them, feed them and bathe them several times a week due to them be so young. It was great, and my cat just watched them because she is very territorial in the house. I was lucky to find a home for them together. I almost could not part with them, they were so cute! Kudos to your wonderful dog!

Oh she will join the family and the kittens too. I get so attached, even when I know I have to give a rescue animal back or it is going to a good home. Momma is a little scrawny right now, so she needs some good nourishment. And she has a body guard hahah.

Your place sound like ours. We have a critter from time to time come to us and we welcome them one and all. Can't wait to see the pictures. Kittens are cute anyway. Glad that the balance in your neck of the woods is soooo good! Thanks for sharing this!

I just went to check on them and they have an audience. My other dogs are all sitting around them cocking their heads from side to side, trying to figure out what is up. They look sooo funny.

What a really wonderful story. But I wonder why your Rottie adopted the entire family including the mother? You really must post a picture of them though, I would love to see it.

That sounds so cute. I love when animals adopt each other..lol Once one of our cats got hit by a car and she had 6 kittens that were only 4 days old. While we were trying to figure out what to do, her daughter who had 8 kittens that weree a week old was paying alot of attention. We buried the cat in the back yard. When we came back to the barn, there was Louise, her daughter with all 14 kittens in her box...lol Boy did that look funny. There were more kittens than cat. She took care of them all and it was her first litter. We called her super kitty Louise. They all made it and we found homes for all of them. I don't know how she knew, it was only a matter of an hour between the time she got hit and we buried her. It was kind of amazing that she just took over the kittens in that short a period of time...as if she knew what was going on.

if you keep all the kitties, neuter/spay them as you will have a small city in no time flat! that is pretty darned cute, who knew a rottie could have it in her. and remember, a cat can be a mother/father as early as three months. i'm not kidding.

We are a "temporary" emergency shelter. I say temporary because some animals have been here for years and are part of the family now. Anyway, yes, every 4 legged critter is neutered or spayed. We are always in close contact with the vet and part of our agreement with the county is that all get neutered or spayed.
