For years I made my own pizza from scratch. My family loved it. My kids would invite their friends over for dinner when they knew I was making it. I haven't made my homemade pizza in over 8 years. My husband has always griped about the quality of the pizzas we have had. So, I never bothered to make him my homemade. This weekend, I decided to make it again. Hubby was delighted with it. He said it was the best pizza he ever had. Our boarder said the same. Looks like my homemade pizza will be a this will once again become regular on our menu. Have you ever tried to make homemade pizza? It is very simple. Start with the basic dough, sauce, crushed garlic, and mozzarella cheese. Add your favorite toppings and dinner is served!

Sounds lush! I remember, back in the "old days", making home made pizza! Whatever happened to that idea? Delivery! But, there are always a few complaints with delivery pizzas, too much sauce, not enough toppings, not enough cheese, terrible crust...just depends. Making yourself would guarantee it would be just like you want it!

Oh yes, and let's not forget too greasy, too salty and gives you terrible indigestion. I love making my own. You get just what you want on it and in just the right portions.

We have made out own pizza and it does turn out nicely. We still much prefer Dominoes. I like to make whole wheat crust. We use alot of garlic too. Our fresh herbs are good on it too. Always good to make your own version of almost any food. Thanks for sharing this and reminding me of something that we used to do.

I make homemade pizza all the time from scratch. Sometimes I buy a ready made crust, or dough to use. I always add different things on it. Two of my favorites is fried breaded eggplant, and poppers with cheese. I love it. Thanks for the nice posting. I have rated you a + as always for you.

Homeade pizza is so much better than the ones you buy. It's just that the ones you buy take less time than homeade pizzas so that's why so many people eat the store bought ones. I buy the dough already made from the grocery store and then add the sauce, veggies, and cheese. It's so good.

Have you tried pizza on the grill? We buy the frozen dough at the market. We cut the balls in half and stretch them out to a single serve size. Brush with olive oil and put oil side down on the grill. Brush the top side with olive oil. When the bottom is browned flip it over and put your toppings on. Close the grill while the underside browns and the toppings cook and the cheese melts. Oh it's delicious and very easy.

Yes we usually use bread dough. I find it in the freezer section usually. Sometimes you can get it in the bakery department at the grocers also... good luck, it's wonderful and so easy. You can also make desert pizza's using pie filling for toppings..we like apple and blueberry together...hehe

You know, it's odd because "homemade" pizza really isn't a complicated thing to make yet I think very few of us actually make them! I can't even REMEMBER the last time I made a homemade pizza! My kids were pretty small I'm sure! There's nothing like a homemade pizza because you can create the perfect pizza for your tastes and style. By george I think I'll have to get the stuff to make some this weekend! LOL Thanks!

I have always had trouble getting the dough spread out on the pan! I like to get the ready made crust and start with that. Then i can go hog wild with the toppings.

I rarely make a truly home made pizza, as my husbasnd is gluten free. I would have to bake two seperate ones. It's easier to buy gluten pita bread as a base for him, & the ordinary base for the rest of us. Your pizza sounds yummy, it would be cheaper than buying bases thats for sure.

I used to be able to make some great pizza dough but the last few times I made it, it came out hard as a rock. I like to bake the shell for a little while then add the toppings. I must be doing something wrong because these are more suitable for doorjams than eating lol.

My family has become quite used to home made pizza. This has got to the point that Coffeemate would complain about the fat content, preservatives and flavour enhancers of big chain pizzas. They seem to like fresh home made pasta as well. My seven year old thinks that store bought pasta is rubbery. We are appalled by the amount of preservatives and additives they put into stuff - to improve shelf stability and product life. We seem to have been able to cope, even if it appears to be a lot of work - as a matter we find it quite easy, since we use our Bread Maker's dough kneading function for all this. The bonus is that food is fresh!

We are now starting to think about making Calzone. Calzone are pizzas folded over. Then it is easy to take the Calzone as school lunches or picnic food. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Calzone Thanks to you, that is now top on the "perfection" list. Cheers!

I love making pizzas from scratch, watch the dough rise and then trying to make it into a round base. My husband usually helps me put on the toppings which can be quite fun, him wanting one flavour and me another, we usually end up with a mix match of flavourings which turn out delicious.

I have made my own pizza...but since I have seven children, you would not believe how long that would take me in the kitchen! LOL It turned out to be much easier to buy frozen pizzas and make a few at a time. But yes, I prefer making my own pizza as opposed to pizza out in town. But sadly...I am also not allowed to have it anymore either.

That is great! I am glad that you found a recipe that everyone likes and would want to have again. Since there is nine of us...we do it the easy and less carb way. And, less carbs means something that my mom can actually have!! We just get the carb-control tortillas, pizza sauce, mozzarella and cheddar cheese, and then toppings that you want. That is how we make the pizza at our house!! :) The easier way. We have made pizza when I was little without babysitter. She was very fun!! :)

Have to admit I am not that fond of pizza .. I suppose I have a pizza maybe 3-4 times a year at the very most .. and then only because there would be nothing else to eat ..

Wow, you are an ambibious lady! I have made pizzas from that boxed mix (horrible) and we have bought both frozen and pizza store pizza. You make it sound "relatively" simple though so maybe I will give it a go this weekend. It would definitely surprise my husband if I tried to do something like that, that's for sure. I noticed in one of your responses that you usually make the sauce but what about the dough? Do you usually make that as well or is that store bought? Thanks for giving me the inspiration to try something new.

I make mine all the time. Hubby is a diabetic and is really strict about his diet. It is difficult to get a delivery pizza that he can eat. So we make a whole wheat thin crust for him loaded with spinach, sundried tomates, feta cheese, olives , mushrooms and roasted peppers. I usually have a cream sauce with grilled chicken, onions and roasted peppers and mozza cheese

My husband would absolutely love a wholewheat crust. He would probably also go gaga over many of the toppings you mentioned. He is very health conscious and would, therefore, appreciate the type of pizza you are making for your husband. Thank you for sharing.

That's awesome! I'm glad everybody liked it. You know, it's been many, many years since I attempted to make home-made pizza. But you've inspired me. I think I'll give it a try again. Thanks.
