No, don't worry I haven't gone completely insane, but as the saying goes you don't have to be mad to be here but if you are it helps. What I am interested to know is if anyone has or ever had in their life a cuckoo clock? Can you still buy them? Has anyone actually got one in their home NOW? Or are they ancient things of the past? Would you like a cuckoo clock or if you had one did it drive you up the wall or did you love that bird popping out every hour cuckooing! And no I'm not on the cooking sherry, it is a serious question my friends!

I am pretty sure there are still cuckoo clocks around, I am not sure if I could deal with one but my grandparents had one for as long as I could remember them having a home. I my self have a wall clock that rings the Westminster chimes every quarter hour half hour and of course chimes out the hours. I have a switch in the back that lets you choose no chimes partial chimes or full chimes, I have the partial, it starts with 6am and last chime is 10:45 pm. I would have the full chime but the walls are paper thin in this building and I do not know my neighbor well enough to inflict a bong bong at 12 midnight. If anything should ever happen to this clock i would replace it or repair it as I love the chimes. I some times do not even notice them. But a cuckoo clock would have to be approved by all before I would purchase one unless you want to drive some one out. lol

Be ok if you had unwanted guests who didn't like cuckoos! Thanks my friend. I'm glad no one thinks I'm completely barkers for starting this discussion!

we never have it but I wouldn't mind having one if we have a big house. I think it will be too much for a small house, the bell sound at night I mean. the bird itself will drive my cat crazy so I don't mind it at all

Oh I forgot about the cats, we have four, could you imagine LOL. We'd wake up one morning and find the cat's chasing the poor cuckoo under the sofa having snatched it from the clock! Believe it our youngest would do it!

My grandma had one and not only did it announce the hour, it would also give one sound for every half hour. It was actually really hard to sleep at night! I would wake up each time I hear that dang bird pop out to announce the time! LOL But you know...I miss it! I have long since moved away from home and live in a house that can become very quiet at night. Good right? But, I still miss hearing my Grandma's clock. My partner's mother has one of those clocks too. Last summer, my kids saw and heard it and thought it was totally cool. But sure enough, they also expressed how it woke them up at night. ha ha You never know...we might have that clock on day in the future. And when my children give me grandkids...I will make sure that little bird pops out of the clock to wake them at night too. ha ha

My great grandmother had one, and I used to love watching pop out, but couldn't stand the noise. I think the other side of the family has it now.! Although I like to look at them, I wouldn't have one, because of the noise and the cats would be trying to catch the cuckoo! My mum had a thing for chimeing clocks though, she has three in her house, as kids we got so fed up of being woken up in the middle of the night, we give her a choice rid of them or stop winding them up, she chose the latter.

My friend actually has a cuckoo clock on his living room wall. He's 27 and lives in a modern home, so it looks truly out of place, but he must have 'a thing' for them. being the guy he is, he likes to have the best of everything. He told me that his parents paid over £300 for it. Personally, I think it's quirky, but i wouldn't have it in my house! It's at least 1 cubic foot and looks like a miniature sauna!

Ohhh lorrrs .. there are very few things that really get me mad .. but stupid cuckoo clocks are one of them .. admittedly very nice to look at .. but please please if you own one never ever hang it on a party wall .. I once had a neighbour do this and I practically had to threaten her to get her to move it .. I pleaded I begged .. she said I was 'over sensitive' .. so finally just before mid day I dragged her round to my house .. took her into our bedroom .. asked her to lay down on the bed .. and then the flamin' clock started .. cuckoo .. cuckoo .. flippin' CUCKOO ... She was mortified .. for some reason the clock sounded almost as loud in our bedroom as it did in her house .. yet when they went to bed they could hardly hear it .. Ohh well .. we got it sorted in the end .. I once knew a chap who bought a cuckoo clock to improve his air rifle skills .. he sit and wait for the cuckoo to pop out and shoot at it hehehe ... I would think that in most peoples houses a cuckoo clock would look out of place these days .. you need a chintzy oldey worldey cottage or a big log cabin or something ..

Phew was getting worried there for a minute that you might have lost the plot a little. I'm pretty sure cookoo clocks are still being made. Personally I've never had one as I think I would have to shoot it everytime it came out of it's little hole! Well it's got to be an easy target surely. It's not something I've ever thought of buying, and to be honest I don't think I've ever seen one for sale. I guess it's like those clocks that have little people going in and out or are they just weather predictors (I think this insomnia has made me go mad lol!). So in answer to your question. No I don't have one, never have and yes I still think they are being made.

Oh my grandmother had that cockoo clock. I remember the bird going off every half hour it would go cockoo cockoo several times it was loud. When I stayed over her house for the summer I would hear that clock and wakes me up every half hour I was going crazy here after the third night I woke up and took the clock down and hid it in the basement, that morning my grandmother thought someone had broken into the house because the clock was gone and hadn't heard it so I was honest and told her that it was driving me nuts and she laughed so hard and come to find out she was trying to get my grandfather to do something about that clock and found out that he used an ear plug I guess that clock has been in there for generations since my grandpaerents have passed my aunt has the clock and she said it drove her nuts so she doesnt rewind it.It's not a batetery type you just rewind it.

LOL no I don't have one and would never have one in my life. I hate clocks that make noise. One of my closest friends has one at her home and every time I go there I feel like smashing it up but have to grit my teeth. She loves it and knows how much I hate it. Even when we talk on the phone I can hear that stupid cuckoo (I know, I know, I shouldn't take it out on the bird!) on the hour and she starts laughing cos I go silent and she knows I'm cursing the clock under my breath LMAO! x

I grow up at my grandparents in the first years of my life. and they had a cuckoo clock, which i enjoyed very much. i was the one responsible to set it up everyday. and as a small child, i felt this was a heavy responsibility, in which i enjoyed very much. I no longer have it, as my grandparents past away, i do not know if my parents sold it or still are keeping it in my grandparents old apartment. But i do know that you can find it in the old market places. I was a month ago there, and i saw two old cuckoo clocks, so i guess it also can be found in GB. I would love to have one and hang it at one of the rooms, when i will have my own house and children, would love seeing if the child that i will have in the future, would enjoy it like i did.

Seems like you hit a note here. What great replies. We haven't had a cuckoo clock. I like peace and quiet so would hate one. I thought Switzerland would be the place to go to get one. Can you imagine working in one of those shops at chime time!!! Bristol (where I live) has a church tower where the men come out and strike the chimes. That is great to watch if we happen to be there at the right time.

Awww I love them! I had one on my bedroom wall as a child. In fact- it is still there- in my Dad's house! I would like tohave it here, but he is attached to it, so it will stay there until, I guess, I will inherit it! I'm not sre if you can still buy them, but I hope so! I really loved that bird - his cheery "cuckoo" used to really comfort me as a child. Cheers.

MY grandparents had a cuckoo clock. WHen I was a small kid I love it, as I grew up I really hated it. Presently I am not sure. I don't really like the cuckoo clocks that much, at least in general, but having something that tells me the time each hour sounds good to me sometimes, so I don't know.

I think you should drink some cooking sherry. lol. I used to have a cuckoo clock. it drove me absolutely Cookoo. lol I had to buy cocoa puffs lol. (you know cookoo for cocoa puffs) I would not own one now unles it was an antique. Then it would be put up somewhere so it would not get broken.

LOL, I used to have one in my house. I bought it from a shop that are selling antique things. But my girls love it so much they broke it. It lasted for only a day. Presently, I have a new one with a bird who will sing different songs every waking and sleeping hours. It will also move a little to the right and to the left. I put it on a place where my girls can't reach it. I might end up buying another one again, LOL!
