Well then, I hope for both of us that we find out some ways to help. Because I know how you feel, when he hurts it kills me inside and theres not much I can do to help.

He really has to go to the doctor. My Dad gets it frequently and his most recent bout came about three weeks ago to the point where he couldn't walk. He didn't do anything about it for 6 days before we finally made him go to the doctor....he has been on meds for 2 weeks now and it has still not gone away all because he did not get it treated right away. If your husband doesn't get it seen to ASAP it's going to linger around for ages.

My daughter has gout also. If your stubborn husband won't go to the Dr. maybe a change in diet will help. Some time things like taking the cherry juice takes a long time. The benefits have to build up in the body. I have rheumatoid arthritic When ever I have to start a new medicine It takes several weeks for it’s benefits to show up. Gout is the same way.

I am interested in this also. I started suffering with it just recently. Two months ago I hadn't a clue what was happening to me. I got it again two days ago. Doctor gets to look at my worried face in the morning.

I have had the Gout for 30 odd yrs and you get to know your body, you know when the gout is about to start,so I take 2 colchicine 6mlgm and 2 naprosan or aleve, but he should go to the Doc to test the level of his Uric acid.

Most people with gout will need to take medications that lower uric acid levels throughout their lives. However, in a few cases some people may be able to reduce their uric acid levels to normal by controlling their weight, not drinking alcohol, and avoiding certain medications for other conditions.8

If the blood uric acid is high but a person has never had an attack of gout, treatment is rarely needed. However, people with extremely elevated levels may need regular testing for signs of kidney damage, and they may need long-term treatment to lower their uric acid levels. Your blood uric acid level may be monitored by your health professional until it is lowered to normal levels.

so your husband should see a doctor so they may help him.

Prevention is the first line of defense. Staying away from things that cause the gout (shellfish, crabs, oysters, etc...) is the first thing.

Cherry juice WILL work and fairly quickly IF you get 100% concentrated cherry juice which is both very expensive to find and very difficult to find but can be found at health food stores pretty much anywhere.

Unfortunately there is not much a doctor can do.

your husband sound like a lot of people who don't want to go to a doctor.

when the pain is strong enough and the ability to walk is inpaired..but some people can get gout in the wrist or other part of the body...you don't have to knock yourself out..there are a lot of home remedies and staying away from pork and red meat will help but if he does not want to help himself you are not responsible for his gout..with wisdom and fork lore..we give concessions too but pain will obey..
i had a bunion (sp_?_) but i had to have surgery or I would not be able to walk..but high uric acid is the reason gout forms in the extremeties of the body..
i am not a doctor but have studied Nurse Aide training...and had a patient that had to have his leg removed as his diabetes was so out of control..and his wife was a nurse? Another close friend is a RN Nurse and her husband had to have a bypass (five times bypass) that is all hey will do at one time...but it sure put him on his back and he is still weak an that was done Dec.7 th...
There is a lot of good sites on the website..this is one..but check out web md and others and never give up on the one you love..he is sicker then he knows..or pretends to know..good luck

i have had gout since my teen years.....its all because i got in with the wrong crowd at a very young age and started drinking...eventually i was drinking everyday to the point i became an alcoholic at an early age....im proud to say now im sober and will NEVER drink again...but look what it has cost me...GOUT....at 22!!! ive changed my diet and tried other things that didnt seem to work so heres what you can try....this is my remedy and i dont reccomend it to anyone unless its at your own free will....i take 2 600mg ibuprofen and a teaspoon of baking soda...i know sounds nasty...and then i drink as much water as my stomach can stand without throwing up....well over a gallon in a matter of a few hours....eventually you gotta pee so bad you cant stand it...after that much water i pee about every ten minutes so between the medicine the baking soda and peeing every ten minutes...IT WORKS!!! because ill be honest i dont go to the doctor either...this discussion is pretty old but id love to know how you guys are doing now and if anyone else has tried my method
