Hydrangea, Forever Pink

Ours is similar in color. Hubby gave it to me this year as a surprise gift. Hopefully it will come back again next year. I look forward to seeing the beautiful blooms.

I hope your hydrangea flowers well, Grandpa Bob. They can be really lovely when out. I presume you have a pink one? Did you know that the hydrangea is normally white, but it also gives forth blue, red, pink, or purple flowers. The colour often depends on the pH of the soil; acidic soils produce blue flowers, neutral soils, pale cream and alkaline soils produce pink or purple. Aluminium is released from acidic soils, and in some species, forms complexes in the hydrangea flower giving them their blue colour.

So, there you go! It would be interesting to note the colour yours bloom in.

Hey thats my favorite plant too! I think they are beautiful. I like the blue and purple ones. And the pink too. Im planning on buying some for the new shack we move in this sunday.Horray! Now you can send me a hydrangea plant too!Hahahahah

I didn't know you could grow them up north. They are every where down here in the south. SOunds like your soil is slightly acidic for the pink blooms. I hope you have lot of years full of pretty flowers.

Oh this is going to be really nice- My mom has a hydrangea bush- It blossoms each year and is just beautiful- I don't have any- I think we might have when we moved in- but my sig other ripped alot of the bushes out- The people we bought the house from owned a fruit stand-farmers market and always planted the extra bushes and flowers in this yard- We had so many!

Hey, I have to brag! It may be the only time I get to with you! You grow everything so well. I finally got something as pretty as yours. It is faded now, but was a gorgeous deep pink. They do grow well in Florida, though. I forget what kind of soil makes them pink and what kind makes them blue. Mine have been mostly pink.

With your green thumb, I bet you can grow anything, Grandpa Bob. Glad to hear your Hydrangea is blooming more than a single flower.
I bought one for my mom for a combo Mother's day/birthday present and she said it bloomed one flower and it's a very beautiful shade of dark pink. Wish I was there to get a pic of it.

Humm, thats wierd. Hydrangeas are one of the easiest things to get to grow here in Kentucky. My mom has alot of them. She gave me some about a month ago & they are actually living! (most things I plant other then Gladiolis (sp?) die) Great job on keepin 'em a live!

I have a hydrangea and it is turning yellow in the leaves. It has not bloomed in two years. I do not remember what color it is. I do not know if I am over watering it or what is wrong. It is in mostly shade, I do not know if it needs more sun. Help please.

Hydrangea are a beautiful plant, I brought one last year and sad to say I left it in my garage and never plant it.
