Rupert the Hoodie!

Apparently, the owners of Rupert the Bear wanted him to have an image change because they thuoght his "Burberry style" clothes made him too much like a "Chav". Someone submitted a design with him wearing 3/4 length blue jeans, a red hoodie and an ipod. Apparently, this was turned down because "hoodies" are associated with crime and violence. They have decided to keep the old clothes and just change his shoes to trainers. Now, fogive me if I am wrong but they've basically decided to keep him looking like a chav which is, er, associated with crime and violence. Can anyone see any logic in this?

Rupert is Rupert and he should stay the way he is. No-one had heard of chavs or hoodies, except maybe Robin and his hoodie men, when Rupert was first thought of.

That's very true. But it is a bit silly that they were worried about him looking like a chav and then not changing his image because the new image was associated with crime when chavs are associated with crime anyway.

What? I'm confused, yes more than usual! So, basically they don't want him to look so chavvy so they're going to take his shoes (which aren't chavvy) off him and replace them with trainers? Ok, so how is that any less chavvy? Surely that's MORE chavvy. Oh and yes, chavs are assiciated with crime and violence, I'm sorry, am I missing something here?

I think you kind of got the point except that the main point was the crime thing and you elaborated on the smaller point of the trainers!

But Rupert doesn't even wear Burberry, what next? Any cartoon with a kilt being revamped for the same reason, Burberry is a type of Tartan, so is all the other Tartan now chavvy?
Has anyone asked Rupert what he thinks, did they have a letter:
Dear Rupert.T.Bear,
You look like a chav, would you mind if we changed your whole wardrobe that you've had for donkeys years.
Yours Hopefully,
These silly people who can't leave things alone.

The sad thing is, they probably would! I think it's this "Burberyy" thing which is all check, which to the non-chav doesn't match.
