Should I get my tongue pierced? |
|
A lot of my friends are getting their tongue pierced. They say that it is cool to have your tongue pierced. I like the idea and I'm thinking of getting my tongue pierced too. I'm having second thoughts though. I asked them if it will hurt, they told me that you cannot eat solid food for a couple of days. I think I can stand that. My father would not want me to get my tongue pierced. What should I do? Should I get my tongue pierced?

1. Calais (6334) | 1 year ago | That is totally up you, I would not get it done just because everyone else is getting it done, thats just silly..Think about it and what it means for you.. Personally I would not, it looks silly and you can not talk properly after it is done, people can not understand what you are saying, I have heard way too many bad outcomes. But like I said its up to you...Dont be pressured though.

argie713 (520) | 1 year ago | A part of me says yes and a part says no. I really can't decide now. I don't have any idea how it feels when you get your tongue pierced. I'm hoping I could decide by next week.
| |
|
|
Calais (6334) | 1 year ago | Well, in that case, just keep on thinking about it, its a major decision and you dont want to make the wrong one..Maybe do a bit of research into the procedure and what happens afterwards..

argie713 (520) | 1 year ago | Yes, I'll do my homework, that is why I asked you people here.

2. asahibza (306) | 1 year ago | I don't dare to interfere with nature. I would prefer to leave my tongue the way it is. I have seen that in the long run these things prove to be harmful. I like to keep nature intact. If I born with some particular shape or parts, I would like to preserve them the way they are unless it is absolutely necessary to modify any of them.

argie713 (520) | 1 year ago | That's true. I'm 23 now and I haven't done some unnatural stuff to myself.:-) I wanted to try piercing my tongue but not everyone wanted me to.

3. raychill (3488) | 1 year ago | Personally, I don't think you should base your decision on anything anyone on mylot says or that your friends say. Something like that should be done because you want to get it done. Not because someone else wants you to get it done or says it's cool. It's sort of like a tattoo. If you went to a tattoo parlor and asked them "what should I get" they would not suggest anything for you. Tattoo places do not like to give suggested that will be permanently placed on your body and you should never even ask for suggestions. The same should go for piercings even though they are not permanent. If you don't take care of it, it can become infected. It can cause problems, like you said your father doesn't want it pierced. It's a decision you should make solely by yourself. and my opinion even so? I don't like tongue piercings. I think they are overrated.

4. aprilgrl (3971) | 1 year ago | OUCH! that's gotta hurt. Well in my opinion I wouldn't do it just becaue everybody else is doing it, but it's up to you. I would be afraid to get it infected as my daughter's friend has one and it got infected it was gross. So your father wouldn't want you to get it done then maybe you should listen to him but if you are of age then its up to you.

argie713 (520) | 1 year ago | Oh my.... I don't think I would want to get my tongue pierced now. But not one of my friends got their tongue infected. I guess it's how the tongue is pierced.

argie713 (520) | 1 year ago | Great. How does it feel to have one? You have done a great job with having a tongue ring. I heard that some get infected. You have had it for 10 years. That's great.
| |
|
|
mfpsassy (1156) | 1 year ago | I have had mine for so long I barely notice it. You have to rinse your mouth several times a day and take the tongue ring out and soak it in mouthwash regularly. And you can't leave it out for very long like you can earings or the hole will close up. Having a tongue ring is a huge responsibility. So think about it for awhile before you decide.

budsr03 (1521) | 1 year ago | Hi Mfpsassy! Maybe you could tell Argie the benifits if any and if a pierced tongue is just a status symbal or what it might make a person! I have my own thoughts on why people have pierced tongues, but that is only my own thoughts. i really don't know the truths or the myths about piercings! Take care.
| |
|
|
mfpsassy (1156) | 1 year ago | Hi Budsr I am not so sure about the statis symbol other than teens think it's cool. Mine was because of a bet, it was either my tongue pierced or a tatoo. That's why I told Argie to really think about it Now as for the benifits well um let's just say they make things in the bedroom a little more interesting. As for the myths I am not sure. Tell me some of them and we will see

PinayPrincess (388) | 1 year ago | I also have a tounge piercing... Its not the piercing that hurts but its the healing,,,... It took me a week before I get used to it I mean before I could eat solid foods.. and yes its really cool.. whenever I get bored I just play with it and I feel relieved hehehe.. The reason of doing so, for me, is that its the fashion.. and curiosity is the next.. I liked it and until now I have it.. hehe.. anyway just like mfpsassy said, you have to take good care of it.. and be sure to have your tounge pirced by a professional.. I mean somebody who really do the thing.. and not just anybody who said they can do the piercing for you.. Good luck.. Think about it first if u can handle the circumstances.. Ok?

Modestah (7288) | 7 months ago | a fashion statement? so do you go around with your tongue hanging out, like a panting dog? and, is that considered attractive?
| |
|
|
mfpsassy (1156) | 7 months ago | LOLOL Modestah There is an attractive thought I don't usually have my tongue hanging out but when I get mad I tend to bite on the bottom side of my tongue ring, which usually the only time anyone notices that I have one

6. charms88 (4675) | 1 year ago | I personally wouldn't like to see anyone with a pierced tongue. It really depends on you. Nevertheless, I still would not go with the trend. Just because your peers are telling you that it's cool to have a pierced tongue, then you will listen to them. Whatever makes you good and comfortable, you have a mind to decide whether to go for it or not. Just be careful though since I've been hearing a lot of harmful effects it will done unto you in the future. Heed to the wise words of the older people and you will not go wrong.

7. cassidy22 (2671) | 1 year ago | Do it because you want to. not because everyone else is, or because everyone else tells you its cool. It's very painful, and if you are under age, your parents will have to sign for you. Tongue piercing is one of the more painful piercings. it's all ONE piercing that can never really heal. If you decide you don't want it anymore - you may always have a hole in your tongue. It also permanently destroys the taste buds at the site of the piercing. Having a metal ring in your mouth CAN damage your teeth by wearing away at the enamel, and it can cause your teeth to spread, if it puts pressure on them. You need to think beyond what's "cool" and decide if this is something you want now, and something you want in the future. Piercings are more acceptable than ever before, but having a hunk of metal in your mouth (that may also impede your speach) can cause potential employers to turn you down. So consider that, too.

9. Debs_place (5531) | 1 year ago | Absolutely not, the piercing can resulted in chipped teeth. Read this Dentists are often the first to note any harmful effects Dentists who treat teenagers are becoming accustomed to seeing more patients with jewelry inside and around the mouth, the article notes. Most mouth jewelry takes the form of removable studs, hoops or barbell-shaped devices that are purchased commercially. Dentists are often the first to note any harmful effects resulting from the piercing process or the jewelry itself, such as fractures or cracks in the tooth structures caused by a metallic barbell stud. Additional negative effects include: pain post-placement swelling prolonged bleeding gum injury permanent numbness loss of taste oral hygiene problems In addition, piercing has been identified by the National Institutes of Health as a possible vehicle for transmission of hepatitis B, C, D and G, and HIV. and this Body piercers are not members of the medical profession In one case, a teen with a heart defect did not take any preventive antibiotics before the piercing and was unaware of the possible complications of the procedure and its association with the heart defect. The article points out that the needle inserted through the tongue during piercing may have allowed bacteria to enter the bloodstream, resulting in an infection in the heart. Most episodes of tongue piercing may proceed uneventfully, but the severity of reported complications makes the practice difficult to condone. Body piercers are unlicensed and are not members of the medical profession. Usually, no health histories are taken at tongue-piercing establishments, no emergency kits are available, no preventive antibiotics are used, and no postoperative care after piercing is available. I don't know how much of an improvement it is on yourself by having one, but if you feel like trying it out, why not!
