What did Sally Field say to get her speech censored?

I missed the Emmy's but heard that Sally Field was censored during her acceptance speech? I hope she is not one of those celebrities that think everyone wants to know her political stand b/c it is a big turnoff in our family. But I wondered what she said or didn't get to say.

I don't think most people reacted to her speech the way she would have liked them to. I don't mind that she has political opinions, everyone should have opinions and she can certainly share them in interviews, books, magazine articles, run her own website if she wants to. I don't even care if she espouses them on television but she wasn't getting an award for her political opinions, therefore, it didn't belong there. Sometimes I think Sally Field says outrageous things or swears because everyone still sees her as "cute" as she was in Gidget and The Flying Nun. I do have respect for her as an actress but I don't think the venue was appropriate for her to use as an outlet for her views on anything but the award she was accepting.

If you will check again, I posted the discussion over 2 hours ago and I checked best response 1 hour ago. I had already had several responses and his was the best so I chose that. I didn't know we had a time limit, I am so apt to forget to even choose one sometimes that maybe I should wait a little longer, but when someone gives me an extremely good response such as his I check best response. Sorry if this offended you.

It was a big bunch of anti-war stuff. Maybe some want to hear it, but to me it's crap. Besides, who can take Gidget seriously?

I have liked her characters and enjoyed her movies, but if she continues with this Barbara Striesand type of behavior, I'll have to write her off my list of favorite celebrities. I am not a political person, I mean I vote and I have my opinion, but there is a time and a place for it, and I am tired of it being shoved at me everytime there is an award ceremony or any opportunity for these "popular" people to voice their opinions. Sally Field is better known these days for her commercials on female bone loss, I had not heard of her new show, but her behavior doesn't make me want to start watching.

Awww..AmbiePam...that's not nice,...I happen to like Gidget....LOL But I am surprised she turned political activist...I expect something like this from Jane Fonda yes, but Sally Field no.

I don't know if it was a political statement ...she said 'no wars'. I think this referred to all wars - past, present and future. And I would think that by saying this it also means that the agressions and causes of the wars would not occur too. Therefore there would be no wars - there were be no Hitlers, Mussolinis, Sadams. No Idi Amin of Uganda, Ethiopia's Mengistu Haile Mariam and the former leader of Chad, Hissene Habre. No Castro, No Nicolae Ceausescu.

Ah--I happened to find it ....I didn't watch the Emmy's either, but you peaked my curiosity here...her speech was cut off but it was ..."Field, who won the prize for best lead actress for her portrayal of matriarch Nora Walker on the ABC series, "Brothers and Sisters," was bleeped by the producers as she began to say, if the mothers ruled the war, there would be no god-d**ned wars in the first place..." Thanks pyewacket for sharing and for the link. Seems hollywood is making headlines this week for sure. I just read over the weekend about Barbara Striesand's husband, James Brolin, making the comment about 9/11 and being insensitive about the issue. I wish they'd just stick to what they are here for, acting and entertaining. Hope you are having a great week :)

As far as I can tell, the word "godd--ed" got bleeped. But I guess it depends on where you were watching it. The complete state was that "If mothers ruled the world there would be no gd'd wars!" She plays a mother on "Brothers & Sisters" and was saying a small tribute to mothers. She says she had no agenda at all. But, she is right.

Thank you for sharing with me. I have not watched her show so I didn't know she was even up for an award.

She used profanity and it was censored not for the political comments but for the bad words she used.

I don't care that she used a "bad word". I bet if my kids were watching they wouldn't have even noticed it. THere are many other very bad words out there. As for her opinion about the war, I think it was the wrong place for it. People can get sick of hearing about politics and just want an escape now and then. Also I don't think she should speak for all mothers out there. (I'm a mom) There are moms, daughters, aunts, girlfriends fighting wars too.

her statement isn't even true - Margeret Thatcher was a mother at the time and England still went to war in the Falklands.
