How many electrical outlets do you need?  email this discussion to a friend?

I think that every wall in a house should have an electrical outlet. I live in an older house and there isn't even an outlet in the bathroom. I have to run extension cords all over the place and they make me feel unsafe. If I want to blow dry my hair or use an iron on it I have to run an extension cord. It's a big hassle. I wonder why people in the past didn't think about putting an outlet on each wall? Does your house have enough outlets?

I agree, you need many, these days everything needs electricity, and there is never enough outlets and or they are in the wrong places.

Dayzz, you wouldn't believe in the houses , I've lived in, I've seen everything as far as old houses go!
Depending on how old the wiring is on the house, and depending on how long you are planning to live there, you may be able to find someone to put outlets,in for you at a reasonable price, at least in the most important rooms!

I agree there should be several outlets in each room. Can you imagine the old way of life before there was electric, don't think I would have liked that. I have a couple in each room but somtime that isn't enough.

Oddly enough, I have NO electrical outlets in my bathrooms. I have two bathrooms in my house and neither of them have an outlet. I am like you, I think every wall should have an outlet. For the most part, excluding the bathrooms, my house has enough outlets.

Do you use a curling or flat iron to get ready for work? If so how do you manage that? I started running an extension cord in to my bathroom because I have been using a flat iron and my Sonicare toothbrush needs to be plugged in so it can charge. I'm glad that you have enough outlets in the rest of your house. Have a great day.

People in the past had no reason to worry about having many electrical outlets. Likely in the day your house was built, the living room and kitchen were the entertainment rooms of the house and thus they had a few outlets for lamps and maybe the radio. The addition of TV was easily handled with the use of a remaining outlet. But since the '80s, we have more and more devices to attach to our TVs, receiver/CD/DVD/DVR players (radios), and in addition to all the kitchen devices of the past, i.e. blenders and hand held mixers, we have microwave ovens, toaster ovens, crock pots, kitchen TVs and radio, etc. So there is no way any building built before the onslaught of all this technology would have a sufficient number of outlets, let alone the wiring to handle them. As for where I live, there are two pole outlets on every wall. But like most people, I cluster units of similar function together, as in an entertainment center. So I too, do not have enough outlets per wall to suite me. Thankfully, power strips are inexpensive.,
