I'm surprised how built up it in between Austin and San Antonio

My job starts right at the end of my drive being I deliver newspapers but hubby's job is a good 60mile round trip and yes, there is more and more houses/businesses being built between us and his job. We sorta kinda live in the country. A mile outside of town in a sub. but yet surrounded by woods. Very quiet and abundant wildlife.

I used to live in Austin, and the last time I made that drive was 4 years ago, it had built up then, I can only imagine what it is like now. I loved living in Austin though, it's a great city. I now live in PA, I have a 23 mile drive to work, but I only go through 3 small communities, or boroughs as they are called up here. There is still a lot of woodlands up here, even though you can't drive 10 miles without going through some kind of little town, lol unlike Texas, where you can drive for hours without going through a town.

I lived in Bandera Texas all of last year, so that is just 50 miles from San Antonio, and i was around all the smaller towns also.It is booming for sure everywhere..San Antonio is really growing and they are putting in new shopping centers all over the place..It seems that Kerrville is also booming and Austin also..The only town that was just staying the same was the town i was in Bandera, but they did have a couple of new places that had began to open..I live in Houston Texas, and you know it is HUGE, actually i live in a town right outside of Houston But i go into Houston often.The little town we are in is also growing big too, pretty soon Houston may just take it over....We do not work anymore, I had to leave my job because i was a hair dresser and my knee played out, i had a knee replacement in October of this year.My husband is a vietnam vet so he is on a Va pension.I miss working a lot..I live on 2 acres and i love it here, i do NOT want to live inside Houston city limits at all..

I feel sure I would not recognize anytrhing if I came to visit..It has been almost 30 years since I was last in Texas..Boy how the years have flown by!!

You hit a soft spot in my memory - I love that area. I'm from Odessa! But the best trip in the world was when I took my son to Bracketville, TX, just eat of Del Rio to see John Wayne's movie set of when he filmed The Alamo. talk about amazing! That was back in 1996 - my son's dream trip! But for your comment - the countryside, I bet has built up alot since then! IT has everywhere. PEople are moving out of California to so many places cause CA is so populated and croweded. I think I'd like to move to Bowie, AZ. DOn't think the population has hit big there, well, hope not! i lived in southern CA and there are like 5 city limits within about 20 miles of Route 66!

I'm a Wintertexan from Ontario Canada. I live in Alamo (surburb of McAllen) for 5 months each winter. I own a mobile in an RV and Mobile Park. Have been coming down to the Rio Grande Valley for a number of years,and watching the Citrus Groves and Onion Fields turn into Housing Developments at an alarming Rate. I'm wondering how people will eat when the last acre of food producing land is finally covered with houses. The RioGrande Delta resembles a Huge Garden containing some of the best garden land in North America and is fast becoming a solid city of houses from Brownsville to Mission.The Valley lifestyle is bordering on Wonderful, so even at $3.00 a gal., I don't mind the 2068 mile commute from Toronto Ontario to Alamo Texas twice a year.

You are right. I bought some land in New Braunfels and had planned on building there when I retired. But now, we are planning on moving probably closer to Austin.
