What would you like to know about myLot? | | The 48 hour period is over, and responses are no longer being accepted! New responses will not be answered, so please read the multiple answers I've already given here. Thanks!
I think it's time we have a revealing question and answer session with the members of myLot. Sound like fun? I think so!
My username is Crash, and you can learn a little more about me by visiting my profile. My official position at myLot shall remain a mystery for now, but let's just say I know enough to answer pretty much any question you throw my way. If I don't know the answer, then I'll do my best to bug the right people at myLot to get it answered, or I'll make something up:)
So here's what I want to do. I will respond to any question posted in this discussion (subject to a few ground rules) in the next 48 hours. It might take me a little while to get through them all, but as long as the question is posted within 48 hours, I will answer it.
Here are the ground rules...
1) Only one question per myLot member, so make it a good one! 2) Don't post the same question that has already been asked by someone else. 3) Feel free to comment under someone else's question, but follow-up questions are not allowed in the comments 4) Keep it clean and respectful! I carry around a big delete button in my pocket, and I will definitely use it on any response or comment that I feel doesn't contribute posititvely to our discussion (of course, I also know how to use the plus/minus buttons in the discussion rating system). Keep in mind that the less times I have to delete something, the more likely I am to engage in similar discussions in the future! 5) I'll throw an extra $20 into the Paypal account of whoever gets my best response. The best response will go to the most original, thought-provoking question about myLot. 6) Let's have fun!
So let me get this started by asking the first question...
What would YOU like to know about myLot???

| | | | | | | | 91. mirali110 (289) | 2 years ago | with all due respects, Mr. Crash, I would like to know when did mylot start and about the senior level person in your organisation meaning your CEO and where exactly your office is located maybe you might have posted the address (which I did not see) and I would also like to know that whether does mylot pay only for the discussions or pvt messages that get shared too...???

| | 92. HouseKat (725) | 2 years ago | This may seem like a strange question, but I can help my curiosity.
How long can MyLot be self sustaining? What I mean by this is, being in Kansas, if a great storm were to hit (we know how the ice and rain love Kansas), how long could MyLot continue to run if you were to lose power or your ISP for any real length of time (days and maybe weeks)?
I realize that the quality of MyLot would suffer greatly if it is not maintained regularly, but is there a point that the site would shut down due to lack of Adminstrative interaction? Or are there Administrators that work for MyLot outside of Kansas?

|
|
| Crash (7) | 2 years ago | Nice! For some reason this question made smile out of both sides of my mouth instead of just one.
myLot.com exists in two locations, one of which is a rock-solid data center nowhere near the snow and ice magnet that is Kansas.
Losing power would stink. It can get cold here, and as you can see from my avatar, I don't have any clothes. Luckily, my big pot belly helps keeps me warm, but still... I hate being cold. Also, the cows make a great wind-block when I'm outside the barn.
Luckily, Santa brought me a sweet iPhone, so even with a loss of power, we can still easily keep tabs on what's going on with myLot.
| |
|
|
HouseKat (725) | 2 years ago | Thank you so much for taking the time to answer my question. I am glad I was able to make you smile. I am only a few hours of where you are so I know all too well the way the weather can, and has, been wrecking havoc in the area this year.
I am glad you have the cows to help block the wind when you have to go outside. Perhaps you should see if someone could knit you a piggie sweater to keep your tail from uncurling in the cold?
If you see Santa again before I do make sure you let him know I am thankful he has brought you a gift to ensure our beautiful myLot community can keep going strong even when Jack Frost decides to be cranky.

What I would like to know is how MyLot got started, and will it last forever?
I know money is important to us all but we are needing the friendships that we are making also.
Was MyLot an*idea* of one or more persons and how did it become what it is?
Thank you "Crash" and welcome!

| | 94. RobinJ (2017) | 2 years ago | Hi, My question is how do I get some of my old friends to return to mylot, I can see that there are attempts to reform or make better the situation, I must admit for a while there it was very bad, and I was about to pack it in as well. The fact that I love to answer discussions as well as ask interesting questions has kept me here because there are still some wonderful people who give good questions as well as great responses, I don't care if you agree with me or not I value any one opinion if it is stated with a bit of thought behind it. Thanks

|
| Crash (7) | 2 years ago | Hmm, sorry to hear that some of your friends are no longer around. We'd love to have them back!
I assume their accounts are still active. Try sending them a private message (this should trigger an email sent to their email inbox) and get them up to speed with what's been going on lately with myLot. Maybe you can also direct them to this discussion where some of their unanswered questions have potentially been addressed.

| | 95. owlwings (5124) | 2 years ago | Hi Crash!
With only about 15 members of the MyLot team, it doesn't take a lot of figuring to know what your role might be;)
MyLot is a very varied community but attracts a lot of members who are concerned with making money online. I notice that you currently run an ad, apparently a MyLot special, which links to eBay auctions for help in that direction.
Please would you elucidate the thorny question of what constitutes legitimate use of MyLot to promote one's ventures and what is not allowed. Much, of course, is specified in the TOS and the Guidelines but these seem to leave some grey areas. I am thinking of Profiles, in particular.
My personal feeling is that if people choose to use their profiles to post ads and referral links, that should be acceptable (though open to moderation). This does seem to be MyLot's feeling as well, in spite of the clause in the TOS that precludes 'commercial use'.
Recently I have noticed that a number of members are 'spamming' their friend's comments sections, probably because the comments section is one of the few places where it is possible to embed flash and other things. I have to say that I find this practice offensive and I wonder if the mechanism is in place to moderate this.
Of course, the user is able to delete comments but many do not and at least one person has stated that the reason they have not deleted comments is because they fear offending the person who left this trash! (That seemed illogical to me, and I said so).
A number of older discussions (say, over a year old) which clearly violate the guidelines are still on the system and show no signs of being deleted. I believe that these are a bad example to new members who see these still in place when their own similar discussions are deleted.
I do understand that, with the staff you have, moderating the forum perfectly and completely may be an almost impossible task. I also see that there are priority issues (in that more recent discussions are more likely to be deleted, if they are reported. So, is it worth reporting older discussions that violate the Guidelines, if one comes across them?
Does reporting activity feature in the complicated algorithm that determines one's activity and status ... and, ultimately, payment?

|
katiedoubleu (2953) | 2 years ago | I'd like to add a note about the "older discussions" that owlwings brought up. I started here WAY long ago... before most of us knew what was going on... before many of the guidelines were in place.
I'm sorry to say that I have some*really* horrid postings from those early days like "dark or milk chocolate?" SHIVERS! But that's what it was like here more than a year ago.
Sometimes when I see one of those old things being answered and moving to the top again, I cringe. To new members, it looks as if I'm breaking the rules about those horrid "this or that" type of questions and then it keeps coming to the top once in a while.
I understand why we can't delete our own "mistakes" from when we started, but it would be great if there'd be a place we could maybe*request* something be removed.
| |
|
|
| Crash (7) | 2 years ago | Hmm, there's a lot in this response. I'm gonna pick one item to respond to that hasn't been touched on at all yet.
We have absolutely no problem with users posting referral links on their profile pages. Perhaps we should amend our guidelines to make this more clear. But don't constantly post in disucssions encouraging people to visit your profile for no reason other than to look at your referral links. If people trust you, they will visit your profile, and they will likely look at what you have to recommend.
If a user is polluting your profile with unwanted commercial stuff, then you should definitely use the delete option and not feel bad about it. It's YOUR profile, after all!
In the beginning, we actually allowed referral links in the discussions. This was my preference, but unfortunately the spammers had a hey-day. It was impossible to control. Forbidding these links from discussions was a necessary measure we took to clean things up.

| | 96. bhubaneshwar (5474) | 2 years ago | Hello Crash, welcome to mylot. The first thing I would like to know is, whether two members can use the same computer for mylotting? My wife and me were using the same computer as it was allowed then. But her account as -kalyani2007 had been deactivated since Dec 11 2007. I had given a PM from my account, as she is unable to access. Surprisingly there is no response. It had happened earlier and I had given a similar PM, mylot was kind enough to restore it. So may I appeal mylot to reactivate it, or to let me know the reason for this . She must know if she violated any mylot rules. DR.B.SARAF Ph.D.

|
|
| Crash (7) | 2 years ago | Yes, it is OK for multiple myLotters to use the same computer, as long as they are indeed multiple people. Having more than one identity is strictly forbidden.
I'm not aware of your personal situation, but I do encourage you to continue to contact myLot if you have questions/issues.
See my other responses on communication times, etc. earlier in this discussion.

| | 97. Qaeyious (1269) | 2 years ago | Goodness, this turned out to be a popular discussion! - Do you think myLot will hire a secretary for you to help you get through all this?:D
First I would like to reiterate two earlier suggestions I made to myLot - First, to have a link to the Best Discussion in a discussion - currently it just goes to the user profile, and if there are a lot of responses and the user has lots of responses, it is a pain to find it in pages of responses. Likewise, I would like a link to my first response in a discussion. I don't always remember what page my response was in, and I don't really care about my secondary responses (my response to responses, if you get my drift?) but I would like to quickly find my response to the original discussion, so I can see how that branch of the discussion is going, and respond to it if I feel it is necessary.
And now the actual question, though there were already several questions to revenue, I would like to be a tad bit more specific in one general area - Are advertisement clicks a part of the algorithm? That is, I create a discussion, and people respond, and some click on the advertisements that are on the page. Would that increase my myLot income? Would it be even more if I actually bought something from the sites the links bring me to? I had noticed the majority of links are with eBay items - not all, but it seems to be the majority - are there any plans to increase the variety? Is there any action I can do to increase that variety?
Thank you very much. Michael aka Qaeyious

dlkuku (1231) | 2 years ago | I am wondering about that too, it takes a lot of time to wade through pages of responses before finding your own.
| |
|
|
| Crash (7) | 2 years ago | It wouldn't surprise me if you saw continued changes to the advertisements shown on myLot. This is an area where we seek to continually grow.
There's nothing one myLot user can do relating to advertisements to increase their earnings. Just use the website naturally as you would use any other website. If you see something in an advertisement that you're interested in, then check it out! If not, then don't worry about it.

| | 98. bellaofchaos (3118) | 2 years ago | HI Crash I would just like to know if there would be a chance that we could get a chat room under each of the members so that we can invite our friends to have a real time chat? The reason I say this is reecntly there was a discussion where a person was frustrated because the members got off topic and they felt that this shouldn't happen and so on and so forth. So I was trying to think of a peaceful solution. I was thinking on a non paid chat room system where each member had their own chat room the only way a person can chat in that room is if the room owner invites them in .. It would be up to the room owner to control the chat they would have a button that would be used to kick a person out of the conversation if they were being vulgar or disrepectful and rude and I also think it would eliminate some of the bickering and rudeness that I have noticed that was going on. I think this would be a valuable addition to my lot and would hope that your team of inventors or web people could arrange this .. Like I said it would be unpaid chat system that way it doesn't take from the discussions and would be encouraged to use it for just simple chatting like how is your day. Anything tht wouldn't be the topic in the discussion. This is also a better way for mylot users to get to know eachother ... thank you for your time and this was a great idea.
| |
| |
|
|
| Crash (7) | 2 years ago | This is something we have considered, but we have no immediate plans to implement a chat room.
Personally, I think this is a great idea, but it's all a matter of prioritization with other items we would like to build for myLot, coupled with maintaining what we've already built.

brew2x (1461) | 2 years ago | I think it would be a great idea to have a chat room here in mylot. I really don't mind if it just several chat rooms and not necessarily have to be for each of the members. It a great opportunity to have a real time discussion with fellow mylotters=)

| | 99. youless (15128) | 2 years ago | It sounds very interesting. It is very good for us to have a chance to clear our questions here. I have joined hear nearly one year, I guess. In the past the earning would be higher and I had learned that some very active users could earn even one dollar a day here. But later the pay became less than before. So some users left here because they thought it was not worth to spend long time here but earned little bit only. I would like to know whether there will be a possibility to improve the payment again? I am sure it will attract more Mylotters to be much more active again. Many thanks and I look forward to your reply:)
| |
| |
|
|
| Crash (7) | 2 years ago | I understand that earnings are important to a lot of people, but I feel that people who are/were here just for the money are truely missing out. myLot is about much more than the earnings program. With that said, the earnings algorithm is very complicated, and I would expect continued potential fluctations going forward, both individually and as a whole.
Keep in mind a lot of people's payouts decreased because the quality of their discussions decreased. Simultaneously, the payouts for higher-quality discussions went up.
| |
|
|
goodnightmoon (1975) | 2 years ago | He keeps saying that the "earnings algorithm is very complicated," maybe mylot staff should dumb-it-down for us?!
We keep the site going, so we deserve some kind of idea of what we are being paid for. If long responses pay more, how do you know the response is actually high quality and now just a lot of words?? If the rating system (+/-) affects payment, then "trolls" (or stalkers) have the ability to affect our earnings by unfairly targeting us.
It doesn't mean we are all in it just for the money. I rather enjoy the discussions here, but I admit I look forward to see my earnings increase as well!
Crash says a lot, yet provides very little of an answer...

I believe that in participating in myLot, I can manage my freedom of expression by means of participating in areas of discussion. Wherein I can emphasis what I care about and what really matters to all... Since am new here, I still have my questions.
How exactly does myLot work?
How does my involvement in this program affect my level of participation? And what is the payout percentage in each level?
What can I do to ensure that my account won't be disabled?
