What would you like to know about myLot? |
The 48 hour period is over, and responses are no longer being accepted! New responses will not be answered, so please read the multiple answers I've already given here. Thanks!
I think it's time we have a revealing question and answer session with the members of myLot. Sound like fun? I think so!
My username is Crash, and you can learn a little more about me by visiting my profile. My official position at myLot shall remain a mystery for now, but let's just say I know enough to answer pretty much any question you throw my way. If I don't know the answer, then I'll do my best to bug the right people at myLot to get it answered, or I'll make something up:)
So here's what I want to do. I will respond to any question posted in this discussion (subject to a few ground rules) in the next 48 hours. It might take me a little while to get through them all, but as long as the question is posted within 48 hours, I will answer it.
Here are the ground rules...
1) Only one question per myLot member, so make it a good one! 2) Don't post the same question that has already been asked by someone else. 3) Feel free to comment under someone else's question, but follow-up questions are not allowed in the comments 4) Keep it clean and respectful! I carry around a big delete button in my pocket, and I will definitely use it on any response or comment that I feel doesn't contribute posititvely to our discussion (of course, I also know how to use the plus/minus buttons in the discussion rating system). Keep in mind that the less times I have to delete something, the more likely I am to engage in similar discussions in the future! 5) I'll throw an extra $20 into the Paypal account of whoever gets my best response. The best response will go to the most original, thought-provoking question about myLot. 6) Let's have fun!
So let me get this started by asking the first question...
What would YOU like to know about myLot???

11. Sissygrl (5752) | 2 years ago | I would like to know, as i have seen many friends discussions deleted where there was nothing against the mylot rules in the discussion (as far aas we know), if when a discussion gets reported, what is the process done to determine weather the discussion gets deleted or stays? And Also, i think a question on EVERYONEs mind that has been here long enough to know about the ratings, is a process to determine weather someone is unfairly rating you so that your star and ratings go down unjustly?! Thanks for any answers you can provide!
| |
| |
Sissygrl (5752) | 2 years ago | I forgot to add, that i think it would be appropriete if we get a notification of why the discussion was deleted, maybe via msg, or email so taht we can learn easier and quicker what is and is not allowed to be posted! thanks again.
| |
| Crash (7) | 2 years ago | I agree on the notification of why a discussion was deleted. This is something I will recommend to the team.
As I've mentioned in response to another question, there is no unjust lowering (or raising, for that matter) of the star rating. Untrusted raters have virtually no impact on the star ratings.

| remo999 (37) | 2 years ago | Sissygrl this is a great idea. Numbers go down without any idea of what or who was deleted and why. Hope you can implement it Crash.

12. ratyz5 (2967) | 2 years ago | Good day Crash!
Here's question that has been in my mind for a long time. How do we earn while we continue to post or upload images here in myLot? I mean, earning by that means is quite good but, I'm really wondering how? The Process if its alright to know.. How does everyone benefit from it? - If that's a follow up question, please ignore it^_^ sorry..
Thanks!
| |
| |
| Crash (7) | 2 years ago | Those images postitively contribute to myLot, especially the images uploaded to Interests! At some point there's overkill though.
If you're a frequent image uploader, I recommend uploading images to the popular interests without as many images in them already.
| |
ratyz5 (2967) | 2 years ago | Hmmm, nice tip, I'll try to upload some when I do get more interests to update.. I wish I could ask again about how we earn from posting discussions and posting responses but, I think that'll be already a follow up question..
Has anybody asked it already perhaps so I can look at the answers there?
Thank you!
| |
| remo999 (37) | 2 years ago | Did you answer the question about how members continue to earn on their images. Also what happens to them...do all images here become part of Mylot's distribution rights? Do they become part of the public domain and then anyone can copy and sell them? Also what about your comment that it can be information overload? How does a member know what they should/should not add as images to their discussions?

13. sminut13 (885) | 2 years ago | grins, i did see you just now but had no idea that you were an 'officer'. hehe anyway for me, i would just like to clarify this particular thing. i have seen it in other posts but i could not reach to a confirmed answer. i respond to a discussion and the starter responds back to me. there's something to reply about so i respond back again. i notice that my score or number of posts remain the same the second time i comment to that post. can i assume that the number of posts does not increase when we respond back to others' replies thus meaning that we do not earn for those?? thanks lots for your help and hope you're not confused. i'll just be checking on others' questions here to learn more too. enjoy answering all the questions. grins this is a great idea. fortunate for me that i'm online right now.

| Crash (7) | 2 years ago | No worries, I definitely understand the question.
You have the opportunity to earn for all participation within a discussion (including the follow-up responses as you mentioned), but your user-rating can only go up once for participating in a discussion.
Don't think of the user-rating as a "post count".
| |
sminut13 (885) | 2 years ago | ohhh, thanks for your reply. i had no idea what that was initially. it's just that in some posts, i got the idea that they actually represented basically the number of posts you made thus i said that. thanks for letting me know and it's good to know that we do earn for follow up comments too. thank you. appreciate it.
| |
owlwings (5125) | 2 years ago | "Don't think of the user-rating as a "post count"."
This makes posting Comments into a whole new ball game. If I understand what you are saying, 'valid' comments to a response (and sometimes comments can run to pages) do actually count in the earnings algorithm, even though they don't increase the 'postings' rating.
In other words, while I agree with the Guidelines that one shouldn't thank everyone for their contribution, it could be inaccurate to state that it doesn't affect one's earnings. (Is that something that, perhaps, was written to take account of a previous algorithm?)
| |
AedonLeone (469) | 2 years ago | Crash commented on the first page of this discussion that myLot's algorithm does not necessarily work out to be 'pay per post.' I think based upon that that it's probably true that going through a discussion and thanking each and every respondent does not increase earnings. However, if you contribute something that adds value to the discussion, that probably would be counted towards earnings. It seems to me that myLot values quality over quantity when it comes to posts, so that would make a lot of sense.
| |
sminut13 (885) | 2 years ago | i agree with aedonleone. if your comments are of value and contribute to the post, then that most likely will earn something unlike the comments where you just say thanks and all.
| |
ellie333 (6792) | 2 years ago | Thanks for clearing this one up on responses within a response as I was under the impression we didn't get paid for our comments back to people only they did when they replied to a discussion we started. I will definately be readin through every post and answer on here to fully understand as I am still fairly new. Ellie:D

sminut13 (885) | 2 years ago | glad we could help here ellie. you say you're new here yet your user rating is really good. grins. good luck

ladyluna (2495) | 2 years ago | Hello All,
This does not jive for me.
Specifically,
"if your comments are of value and contribute to the post, then that most likely will earn something unlike the comments where you just say thanks and all."
This would imply that each discussion, response, and reply is manually reviewed and graded by human eyes. This is highly improbable!
Which begs the question, is there a bot program that is (for example):
Looking for key words, like "Thank you", or "Thanks", in each reply to a response, then whether the Original Poster includes other possibly valuable follow up, is the reply considered void of value? And, thus will not contribute to earnings?
I certainly hope that this is NOT the case!
| |
sminut13 (885) | 2 years ago | i'm sorry ladyluna as i have no idea what a bot post is. but from other posts that i've come across, well i come to think that way. if we contribute something useful or valuable to the discussion, then we're paid or something. exactly how i'm not too sure too though. i hope you get your answer soon from someone experienced. i too can learn from it. thanks for your queries.
| |
| remo999 (37) | 2 years ago | Good to know that Mylot does take note of quality discussions and responses to responses on members sites. It would make sense that members who reply to comments on their own sites and keep threads going would be rewarded with earnings for their efforts. The appeal for many here is the fact that Mylot provides intellectual discussions and a social forum of caring people. Keep up the great work and reward those who deserve it. Keeping members like that will attract others of a similar mindset.

| Crash (7) | 2 years ago | In a perfect world, a delete button for your discussions, comments, and responses would be great for when you make an honest mistake, but this opens up a can of worms. We appreciate the integrity of our discussions and we don't want to jeopardize that by giving users the ability to delete. Deleted comments and responses can ruin the flow of a discussion.
I strongly recommend using the "preview response", "preview comment", and "preview discussion" buttons before posting!!!!

marketing07 (2358) | 2 years ago | one more question crash,,what does it mean mylot digest..i understand it is based on daily discussion..but why it is that my last month discussion was included?,,but honestly i appreciate it..so what does it mean? my lot digest do we earn for that or increase our rank?

vera5d (2194) | 2 years ago | something that would be nice is spell check or a wysiwyg editor for messages...but then you would have to allow html which might cause more problems...i am debating this with my own website on if I should let users have html access or not. I'd like them to be able to do things like bold and italic and fonts and links...but then you open yourself up to a lot more problems
| |
AedonLeone (469) | 2 years ago | I agree with vera5d about the WYSYWIG editor for posts just because pages of plain text get boring after a while, but that would probably open the door for a whole lot of abuse. And spell checker plugins can be found for free these days. I use Mozilla Firefox, and it has a built-in spell checker that goes through text-entry fields and underlines misspelled words. It even suggests replacement options for them, just like any good word processor does.
If you ask me, I think myLot's internal folks shouldn't bother reinventing the wheel when it comes to those things. I'm sure there's plenty of other things they could be focusing their resources on that would benefit the community much better. :)

16. fpd1955 (1286) | 2 years ago | Nice to meet you, Crash.
Awhile ago I invited my partner to join myLot. She never received the invitation. So, I tried again. Still did not receive the invite. We share the same internet provider account, but have different email and user id's. Can you tell me why the invitation was not sent and she was not able to join myLot using my referral? PEACE
| |
| |
| Crash (7) | 2 years ago | Yuck. Every once in a while we have trouble with our emails going out. A lot of it is related to the volume of emails we send out as notifications of responses to your discussions, friend requests, etc.
Ask your friend to send a message to username "myLot" saying that he/she should be your referral, and we will manually add the referral relationship. Make sure and say "Crash said so!" so it gets done quicker.

trinihd (658) | 2 years ago | Good question! I think I will resend some of my referral emails, because I never got anyone to sign up, and now I am thinking it might be because they probably didn't get the email at all.

19. carolbee (6706) | 2 years ago | Hello Crash,
Wow, this is interesting. I'd like to know why myLot doesn't get rid of the star rating system that sometimes seems to damage a member and offer a cash reward for better discussions and responses? Money talks!
Thanks, carolbee
| |
| |
| Crash (7) | 2 years ago | Well, since higher quality discussions and responses are worth more to the community, earnings for them are higher. That's already built in.
The Star Rating system is an integral part of the community. I don't see it going anywhere.
| |
carolbee (6706) | 2 years ago | I do understand the star rating system is an important part of the community and it's permanent. Thanks for the explanation. Wouldn't offering an incentive program such as "the best discussion of the day" and/or the "best response of the day" increase user participation along with possible increased membership? Such as this discussion: you're offering $20 for the best question.
