A couple of weeks ago I was cleaning out the freezer and found a package of Apple dumplings I had purchased from a school fund raiser. I baked all of them night as I was getting company. They came with a cinnamon sauce to pour over them and with a dollop of whipped cream they were really yummy. Do you make them from scratch? What do you use on the outside? It was flakier then a pie crust so I was wondering if you used a puff pastry or what on them?

I love apple dumplings. I have not made them in years. Maybe I should do that for dessert tonight. I love them with a little ice cream on the side. http://southernfood.about.com/od/bakedapples/r/bln311.htm Here is recipe I found. Sounds really yummy.

My grandmother use to make killer apple dumplings. They were fantastic. She made them from scratch but can't remember what she used other than flour and water. Once upon a time I had the recipe and if I can find it will send it to you. We use to beg for them when a kid. My mom also made them a few times but it wasn't the same. The one time I made them nobody ate them...lol Pretty bad. We use to use real cream and eat them hot hot hot.

I have made them in culinary class from scratch. We used a pie crust with a brown sugar syrup over them with homemade whipped cream. They came out soooo good. I am accualy thinking about making them this weekend.
