Ever over reacted when your kid fell because there was just so much blood? |
|
Today my daughter fell in the bathroom and hit her face on the tub, she didn't have time to catch herself and as soon as i picked her up, i was standing beside her, her mouth was full of blood and i panic'd and called for hubby to come running. She was fine but there was a lot of blood for such a little cut on the lip! it did swell up some too but i got her to chew on some frozen peas. Have you ever over reacted when your kid or kids have fallen down? I think its almost instinct to think the worst when it happens!!

1. rintintin (2348) | 8 months ago | I think you acted as most of us would, even us guys. Infact, women are probably better at not over reacting than men. I know that this happened to us a few times, and it was my wife that had the cooler head. I hope your daughter has recovered fully now and didnt do any permanent damage.

mcrowl (569) | 8 months ago | I don't agree with you about men overreacting more than women. On the occasions where I've had to deal with a serious cut (one child I was looking after split the underside of his foot clean open, and another opened up the back of his calf) I've actually been very calm, and managed to do everything right! And I'm a bloke... http://mcrowl.blogspot.com/

3. corimcl (2054) | 8 months ago | I am usually very laid back when my son falls. I tell him "ok wipe it off." That was until I had a similar incident like your daughter. We were at a party at a restaurant in a private room. My son and nephew were running around chasing each other. MY son tripped and hit his face on the table. WHen I ran to pick him up there was so much blood. I was panicing. I thought he knocked out a tooth. Thankfully his teeth were fine and he cut his upper lip with his bottom tooth. The cut was not bad but OMG there was just so much blood. They always say that the mouth bleeds alot. Once the bleeding stopped my son was back to running around. Of course I lost my appetite and couldnt take my eyes off my son

4. steffyhoney (649) | 8 months ago | Yes. When my daughter was around 2 she was walking into our kitchen and tripped over the rug that was in the hallway and fell right into the metal leg on a kitchen chair. She was crying and when her dad picked her up blood just started running down her face like a water fuacet. i paniced. But then we got her all cleaned up and it turned out to be a small cut and healed ok. I was worried about the scar that it left for a long time after, but now as she gets older you cant see it as much.

5. lilybug (8759) | 8 months ago | My daughter went running through the kitchen a few weeks ago and slipped and hit her face on the floor. She has blood everywhere. I freaked out so of course she freaked out. She ended up making her 2 front teeth bleed, but she was fine.

Sissygrl (4548) | 8 months ago | ouch! i usually have a baby gate up from the living room to the kitchen so that when i'm not in the kitchen with her i can stil keep an eye on her. I can't see into the kitchen at what she is doing from the living room!! So just to be on the safe side i keep the gate up. its ceramic tile floor out there! that would hurt to fall on i'm betting.

6. ellie333 (5194) | 8 months ago | No, I always stay calm when that situation happens and deal with it. It is only afterwards I start thinking oh what if and crunble. My son fell in the playground and pu his teeth through his lip and cut and grazed his nose, I was at work at that time when I got a call informing me and the first thing I thought was that he needed a mummy hug and I felt sad that I actually wasn't on hand to deal with. Hope your daughter ok. Its horrible when they hurt themselves, as a parent I know we would rather it be us going throught the pain. Ellie:D

7. Goodie123 (7205) | 8 months ago | The one time it happened to me, I paniced real bad. My youngest son fell and hit his head on the aframe of a trailer. He had a great big open gash between his eyes. The blood was pumping out real fast. He had to have five stitches. We had nearly an hour drive to the nearest hospital or doctor.

8. luvstochat (6020) | 8 months ago | My husband says I always overreact when my kids get hurt. But those are my kids and I hate when anything happens to them. The first time my daughter had a nose bleed at 2 years old scared me it was such a bad one I got scared but it finally stopped. My son had to go to the emergency room when he was about 2 becasue he fell and hit his head on an end table that scared me.

webeishere (9854) | 8 months ago | Here's a reverse example of over reacting to an injury I had years back. I was at a local hilly park with my daughter and niece who were about 8 at the time. We were running down the hills as fast as we copuld. The girls were near a tree at the bottom when I started to run downhill. So fast that I had no control of my feet anymore also. I saw the girls near the tree and knew they'd get hurt as I could not avopid running into them. Quick thinking me, as I neared them I reached out grabbing each girl to my sides then tossed them aside as the tree neared me. The girls were fine after their slight little fall. now me... I broke 2 ribs and fractured 3 ribs from the impact against the tree. After that episode my nievce overreacted so badly she refused to go to the park anymore with me saying, "I'll get hurt if Uncle Bob goes with me." HAHAHAHA! I still give my niece a hard time when we get near a park and she is nearly 30 now. No she never did go to a park with me again as a child. HAHAHAHA! HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~

9. webeishere (9854) | 8 months ago | My wife did and she still does with the grandsons. One year while at the State Fair here in Minnesota we kept yelling at out then 3 year old don to sit sitll in his stroller or he'd get hurt. Sure enough as we were walking up a long cement ramp to another area he fell face first onto the pavement splitting his head wide open. My wife freaked out. But being the calm one I ripped off my shirt, wrapping it around the gash on his forehead, then carried him, running, to the first aid area. THE HEe went to the ER and got a few stitches. wASTED THE whole day for me as the wife stayed at the Fair as i went with Nathan. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM COOL, CALM, AND COLLECTIVE GRANDPA BOB!!~

10. cynicalandoutspoken (1960) | 8 months ago | Nope never. If I don't see bone sticking through the skin or a tooth hanging by a bloody thread then it can't be that bad. My son cut his head on the edge of his dresser cause he was bouncing on the bed after I told him not to 300 times. You would have thought his brains were about to come seeping out from a fractured skull there was so much blood. But after he was done throwing a fit and all cleaned up it was just a tiny little scratch. His scar is about as wide across as a dime. But yeah, mom's always think the worst but I keep my cool through a crisis and only break down when it is over and done with.

| britany_renee (85) | 8 months ago | I, like a couple of your other comments, try not to overreact on the outside so i don't scare the child even more, but on the inside i'm freaking ou! i had a gut wrenching experience happen with my 3 year old son...i had an "unofficial" home daycare...i was in the kitchen cooking lunch and all the kids were in the back bedroom playing as the normally did...when all of a sudden I heard the sound of shattering glass. I ran as fast as I could and about the time i got to the bedroom my son starts wailing in pain. to make a long story short, he had pulled the matress off his bed and were jumping on it, then, i assume, fell into the window, which was shatered all over the floor. There was blood everywhere! I picked up my son and herded the other 5 kids into the living room. Once I found the cut on my son's foot and got it cleaned, i saw the extent of the damage. I could see the ligament in the top of his foot. Hubby and I were down to one car cause mine had broken down, and it was 30 minutes away from me at work, I called the mother of the kids i babysat, and toldher of the sisuation. She came and let me borrow her car so i could take my son to the emergency room. Thankfully none of the other kids (including my 2 yr old daughter) were hurt. I was so proud of my son though. The only time he cried was immediately after it happend and only lasted for 5 minutes or so. Even through the whole ordeal of getting 5 stitches in the top of his foot he was so strong and courageous! I was so proud of him. I think I was more scared than him! It's amazing how strong kids can be! Many adults in that same situation would have freaked out when they got stitches. (i've seen it happen) lol
