an affair with my rice cooker  email this discussion to a friend?

When I came here to US, I left behind my family, friends, career and roots. I have sacrificed so much to be with the Love of my Life. But I don't miss my family and friends so much because I talk to them a lot now than when I was still home. And I have modern technology to thank that for.

But if there is anything I miss... it's rice. Good thing I can buy rice here but the problem is, I don't know how to cook it without rice cooker. My in-laws are not rice either so they don't have one. Good thing we were given a $25 gift card from Wal-Mart as a wedding gift and I used it to buy a Black and Decker rice cooker and steamer.

Now, I can cook rice and don't miss it that much now.

It's really funny how people would really miss rice especially if they've been eating it ever since they were young. It's good really that you are reunited with the one you love - rice. :)

So, where are you from anyways? I could certainly relate to you because I am from the Philippines and rice is our staple food.

I love rice but perhaps not the type you are used to because all I do is put one part rice two parts water a bit of salt , cover and cook in the microwave for 17 minutes perfect rice every time , of course brown rice and unpolished rice do take longer so the rice I am talking about is the white, or parboiled rice never the instant, that tastes like corrugated cardboard, no matter what you do with it, I hope you are a bit happier being away from home now

I have never made rice in the microwave before. It sounds like it is a bit quicker than the stove top. I may try that next time I make rice.

I also hate minute rice. It does not taste right to me.

My in-law would cook rice for me in a microwave when they felt that I miss rice.

Good for you!

I never used a rice cooker until after I was stationed in Japan. Oriental cooked rice is so much better (easier to eat with chopsticks too, LOL).

I always wondered how it came out nice and sticky and someone told me it was because they cooked it in a special pot.

I had to get me one of those! I haven't cooked rice on the stove since.

WOW, really? Oh well, I don't think I can learn how to cook rice in that pot because the think about rice cooker is... you dont have to check it until you are ready to eat. LOL. am lazy.

I have never used a rice cooker to make rice. I have always used the stove top to make mine. I am glad you were able to buy a rice cooker, so that you can make rice the way you are used to making it.

I miss my brother more because he cooks perfect rice without the rice cooker.

Now that you have rice cooked in your house, you can also prepare another breakfast favorite - fried rice. But don't eat too much...or else you will lose that wonderful figure!
Enjoy!

Good for you. Rice is really important for us Filipinos. It's really weird and weakening if we don't have that in our diet. But if we are compelled not to eat rice in any given situation, I am confident we can survive, anyway, in time.

Well, I just miss it every now and then, actually. I tried to limit my rice intake too when I was home because it's fattening. You know what I mean.
