Here's a question: Which type of storage do you find is the best 1? Burning your files / data / music ,etc on DVD/CD? Or storing them all in a flash drive or external drive? I know this question is very subjective depending on the amount of data but still, what's your opinions? I do store some of my data on my flash drive but it's very vulnerable to viruses. Even my 250GB external HDD was infected earlier. Even external drives can crash - HDD - bad sector so on & so forth. I find in cases like these, burning on media is one of the best ways. What do you guys think?

Your point is quite clear.
A large storage over file security? I have also been vacillating about this recently. It seems that files are more secure in DVDs or CDs than on file storage like HDDs, or Flash Disks. We'd just have to store those DVDs and/or CDs in safe places. Then there are times that those DVDs or CDs that contain those important files can't be read by the computer, somewhat technically losing the files we stored in them.
I even though about file hosting sites but, you can never be sure if the sites would still be around for a long time. You can't also be sure on file transfers when you donwload them as well. Store them in e-mails as attachments which we can retrieve?
I guess my I'd eventually choose DVDs and/or CDs as more secure for storage.

Burning to a disc I think is the best too. You just use a good and reliable media or disc, If you want it to last longer don't use cheap disc. Also make sure that you do a virus check before burning, so that you don't store infected data. Good luck.

Noted, point taken as I do recommend & sell HP media as well. I had to redownload & burn my antivirus program earlier when I formatted my HDD the 2nd time as the virus had attacked my antivirus programs stored on all my HDD & also backed up ones which I didn't realize at 1st. What a frustration. I contracted it with my pendrive during 1 of the Microsoft workshops, darn. Anyway everything is up & running now for more than a couple of weeks ;)

I do not consider any one media type to be universally preferable, it varies according to what I am arching.
I store a large amount of music and video on external drives, along with a great deal of images and other data. For interactive files such as Word documents or Excel spreadsheets that I use regularly I have a USB flash drive for easy access.
The only time that I store anything on CD or DVD is if I wish to play it on my music centre or DVD player.

Well, we prefer to store it in our external hard disk but just to keep a back up, we store it in a DVD just incase.

yes, it is better to have a back up just incase our hard drive will crash hehehe... That happened to us once... Lesson learned! Cheers!

Yup, that's great. I have 1 250GB 3.5" SATA as well. But like I did highlight, all is well until there's virus or the external drive unforseenly goes kaput!~ Haha. Then all the files in there we'll have to kiss them goodbye, sayonara. Other than that, I also do prefer external drives as they can store really a lot ;)

if you want to keep save something really important (especially if it's a final copy and no adjustments will be made later) go for a media. get a good one that is reliable. you don't want your data to be unreadable later.
i would suggest thumb/flash drive and external hdd for only data you don't mind losing if anything goes wrong. i learned my lesson the hard way. i have no problems with virus even though they managed to enter the hdd but that's it. my hdd corrupted. physical damage. two different high capacity hdd. ouch
in short store all your driver installers in a media so you'll be able to retrieve them in case your computer needs to be reformatted. also all your important software and your documents if they are finalized. your other documents can be saved in ext hdd or flash drive. your photos and home videos go to the hdd with media as a backup and music can go to hdd with or without backup. you probably will listen to something else later. plus you can always download them later if you want. same goes to downloaded series or movies
also do an online backup. just in case

Haha
Love your organized style of backup
Well, I guess for us who have learnt hard lessons then we know what's priority & what's not. So the top priorities with no more alteration data will go to media, the less priority ones go to HDD & the least ones with small amount of data can go to the flash drives. Very well put
Love your organized style of backup

I like storing my files on a cd. Its easy to store and simple to do. I like simple and easy when concerns computers:)

Thanks for the suggestion. It would be horrible to boot up and find you had re-infected your computer with a virus.

I think burning it to disk is the best storage as well probably the most reliable. I also store on externals but thats generally stuff I use more often and I would still keep those backed up too. Yeah ... always scan stuff before burning, and with externals try not to leave them on all the time.
