I'm always thought of as a guy. I have no idea why. I guess all guys assume your male until you prove it... Is there really that many guys out in this world posing as women? Or are guys homophobes?

the answer is yes to both of your questions there are a great many of both. Guys for the most part don't believe anyone who can compete equally with them is anything less than a man. The internet is the great equalizer, and in the eyes of most guys unless you can prove your a girl by using a webcam and most likely taking off your clothes will always be a guy to them. I know better though, I know too many internet power players who are women.

I'm not so sure that many pose as something they are not. To me real life has a way of spilling out on the net. I'm sure there are some that pose but I havent found them in the 10 years Ive been on the net.

I am not really sure how to prove that I am a female if I was ever asked to! I think a lot of the time it is quite easy to tell who is male and who is female, simply by the way that they talk about things. I would not like to be tested on that though as I guess there are some people that would pretend that they are someone that they are not.

I agree with you. Ive been asked several times if im female probably for the reason of the discussions I start. I gear questions towards men-cause I do like men. Although I respect both genders. Thank you.

How can you prove you are male or female? Well, I don't think you really can. Let's consider your avatar, which is an artistic woman sans attire. Does this mean you are a man who finds this kind of image attractive of a woman who likes looking at such an image? If your Avatar were a picture of a woman, people would normally assume the picture is you. If your Avatar is a piece of artwork of a woman, people can be less sure. The internet is a place of faceless interaction. There are men out there who wish they were women. Women out there who wish they were men. Gay men who want some attention from seemingly straight men, etc. The incidence of such occurrences is probably less frequent than myth implies. Yet, men have most likely picked up stories or suggestions and innuendo from buddies that they might just as well be chatting with some gay, transvestite, or trans-gendered person. There is a sort of a 'Crying Game' kind of fear there. Another reason might be loss of cues which men are normally confronted with when dealing with a woman. A woman met in real life who is warm to someone noticing her femininity and paying attention will dress to make this known. She might also use smiles, eye contact, body language, or even casual touch to awaken the awareness in the other person that she is, in fact, a woman. Other women might use cues or other signs to signal a lack of willingness to be a recipient of such attention. Thus, your perceived difficulties might trace back to a man's lack of ability to pick up on social cues delivered only through black text on a white screen. As such, their default behavior is to treat you as if you are a man.
