I know I dont know everything out there but I thought I knew a lot about what to do with all thoes extra grocery bags that we get at the store all the time. What I didnt know was that you can iron these bags together and make up a stronger bag. Just place them in a stack and iron them inbetween two pieces of parchment paper and they will melt together. Then they are stronger and you can use them to make things like a stronger reusabel grocery bag so you dont get so many of these things cluttering up your home. You can also crochet them together to make rugs or bags, things of that sort. But that is more commmon knowledge. Was that news to anyone else?

I knew that people crocheted them together to make things out of them. I've seen people turn them into purses and rugs. And I think turning them into stronger grocery bags is a really good idea. I mean, those plastic bags are really flimsy, hardly hold anything and aren't good for anything. Why not turn them into something better and actually make them mean something by reusing them as stronger bags? I'm not sure how the rug thing works though, those can't be really comfortable rugs.

I was thinking that the rugs would be rough too. I assume that the rugs are outdoor rugs since they are made from a material that can be put outside and not be damaged. Maybe I should make one before I assume things.

I was thinking of all the colorful bags out there and the patterns I can make from them. I think I will make up a pattern and start looking for bags of certain colors. I wonder how many bags you would need?

Probably it would depend on which kind of plastic is used. The crinkly kind would probably be rough and better suited for a patio or pool side. One store around here has a smoother non-crinkly plastic bag and that might be useful in a bathroom...plus they come in a really pretty blue.

An iron is definatley something worth owning. Maybe you should throw some hints around about birthday or holiday time. I am going to try to make up some larger sheets of the bags to make laundry bags for the kids. Just to make life a bit simpler for me.

I've never had a use for an iron until now. Not worth buying one just to iron some bags together. I'll just use my mom's iron. She irons everything still..and I mean EVERYTHING.

That's very productive. I never thought or discover that. I used to have lots of those because I buy a lot in a 24 hour shop nearby my place and they have shopping bags that can be usful. Mostly, I use it for my garbage.

We use them a lot for garbage too but it is fun to find a new use every now and again.

I've shredded them to use for "stuffing" in various projects. I learned that trick out of necessity more than creativity...my youngest daughter had the role of a cat for her kindergarten play. I was making her costume and the night before it needed to be sent to school I could not for the life of me find my bag of craft stuffing. The kids were in bed and there was no way I could get to the 24 hour Walmart for more stuffing...so her tail got stuffed with shredded grocery bags and it worked so well I continued to do it for other projects that needed to be soft in a firm way.

It seems like plastic would hold up better than the soft fillers that they use. The toys my kids hold and carry around look so bad after a while when the stuffing begins to break down. Maybe shreadded bags would hold up better.

wow i didnt know about that. Something to do sometime with the box i accidently ended up with one time. I picked them up thinking they were the case of chicken my mom had bought and loaded them into the cart. When we got home we had 2 cardboard boxes...one of chicken and one of the bags...I tried to return them but the store wouldnt take them back..and they didnt charge me for them. Since then ive been using them for garbage, litter box liners and bags to take out nasty litter. My grandma used to make braided rugs out of plastic bags.

How funny. A whole box of these things. I have a million here but we use them for so many things that I appreciate what I have. We also use them as garbage bags and totes. That is one less bag I need to buy. Good luck going through that box. Let us know if you find anything else.

That is a very interesting idea. I had never heard of doing this either. It is pretty clever.
