Has anyone ever mistaken your voice for your mom or dad?

My sister, my mother and myself apparently all sound alike. I had an internet friend call me from Florida while my mom was staying with me (I've known him ten years) and she answered because I was at the store. He proceeded to ramble on about a guy on his message board that he was upset about and used some pretty blue language till my mom got a word in edgewise and politely explained that I wasn't there. Man, was he mortified!!
She wasn't mad or anything, she thought it was amusing but after that he always asks if it's me that speaking!
Have you got any funny stories of mistaken identities over the telephone or cell phone?

When I was younger, I'm talking barely a teenager, anytime someone would call our house and I would answer, they would always assume they were talking to my mom or grandmother and start having long conversations with me until I finally spoke and said hang on let me get them. It still happens but not as often as it used to. Now people mistake me and my mom's voice on occasion.

That could've been fun if you'd kept up the charade, no telling what juicy secrets you could've heard!

I have been told that my sister and I sound a like - we also look a like, so I guess that's not much of a surprise. My husband, grandmother and my best friend can always tell us apart. My voice sounds peppier than hers. My mom, lets just say it's a good thing for caller id. She can't even remember our birthdays.

Ooohhh... similar experience here. Over the phone, my voice and that of my mom's and sister's are about the same. Many times, friends or relatives who call up mistake us for each other. When we tell them who's on the line, they laugh and scream "I thought it was..." So I go wondering because when I listen to myself and my mom and sister, it does not seem like were sound alike. But I guess, sounds get distorted especially when it comes from you.

I don't think my mom, sister and I look alike at all so it's strange that we should sound alike. Do you and your mom and sister look alike?

LOL I have never been mistaken for my Mum or Dad when I lived at home and answered the phone. But my eldest son always used to get mistaken for me LOL It used to drive him nuts but he used to sound just like me and people would talk to him for a few minutes before they realised who they were speaking too.

That happened to both my sons before their voices changed but it really didn't bother them much because they knew it was a matter of time before it stopped.

HA! You must have a young voice, count yourself fortunate!
I remember when my sons were young and answered the phone a caller would call them "ma'am" and they'd be a little disturbed. From then on I'd be careful not to do that when calling others because boys often sound like girls before their voices deepen.

oh yeah even when family call and if i answer they think that i am my mom and i am talking about my step dad too. i dont know what it is but no one can seem to get us right. My husband sometimes cant even tell my mom from me when he calls and i am over here. i find it a bit funny since well we are always together. what really gets me though is when friends of my mom calls and they start going off talking and i have to tell them that i will get her. then the apologies start and it is just funny.

Ha! That is very funny, and would be fun to just pretend to be her for a little bit and find out their secrets. Kind of mean, but funny.

Can't say i have. But I have 2 nieces. I mistake them for each other all the time. As well as thinking I am talking to their mom. It can be a little embarrassing.

Yes, I can imagine how embarrassing it could be especially if you want to say something of a private nature!

For a time my son and I sounded alike on the phone.
My sister tells me that she feels like she's talking to herself when I talk because we sound so alike.

I like my mom's and sister's voices and it's nice that I sound like them but when I hear my own voice I cringe--it sounds awful, yet people think it sounds like mom's. Maybe there's something wrong with my hearing!
