I would like you to address that dress and bring it to our address

Yesterday Mrs P1ke and I set out on one of out infrequent clothes shopping expeditions. The main purpose of this was to equip me with new trews. However, I decided that corduroy trousers decorated with labrador puppies is not what the well dressed predatory fish will be wearing this season and we popped next door to the ladies department. I am a bit of an old traditionalist when it comes to women's clothes. Especially Summer clothes. Trousers or slacks are fine, but I especially enjoy the sight of a lady in a cotton or linen dress on a warm sunny day. Many of you will now hiss - "Sexist pig. We dress for ourselves not for his lecherous old eyes". That may indeed by the case, but I am what I am and make no apology for it. Mrs P1ke has just had a ravishing new haircut (the cost would have paid off a third world country's national debt) that makes her definitely look worth at least one new dress. She was not against this idea and together we searched the racks. Inevitably of course, the one that I liked, she did not and vice versa. We returned home empty handed. But there is always tomorrow. I hope that she does find a dress that she likes. She's worth it. Are you a Summer dress admirer? Will you be buying cool cottons and luscious linens this year?

Hi Piky..for me seeing as im .now how to word it ...traditionally pear shaped..i prefer a skirt and top/blouse...but thats just me.You will be so chuffed to know that you are by no means the only man and wife team to disagree.On the odd...and i mean very very odd time that Mr Ruby has shopped with me...well...the outfit he picks lol looks like something from Soho!!!...and im not jesting ...hence we never agree on `that` outfit¬!!!...in actual fact im quite conservative in my dress sense..in other words ...boring!!....But what happened to your new trews in the end??..or maybe Mrs Pike couldnt agree with your choice either!

I am sitting here trying to work out what "traditionally pear shaped" means. You sound ravishing to me Ruby. Why not go for a floaty dress this summer. Get Mr Ruby's heart quickening!! No trews yet. But I shall live in hope for later in the week.

This has just made me think of sometihng..I was shopping with hubby and Mother for clothes..(for Mum) a wee while ago...and Mum god love her she had her long johns out...now she worries not a jot about what people think now..she says that its a `perk` of being elderly!!...but hubby had gone to sit in the car and read his paper...he is not repeat not into shops..bless his cotton socks..but I struck up a conversation with a chap..on the `waiting` sofa...outside of the changing rooms...he was fairly pleasant...though kept trying to impress me...then his wife called to him from the changing room...she was plump and had an outfit on that looked really good on her....she was obviously pleased with how she looked...and he went across and started a great converstation on the whys and wherefores of the practicality of the outfit....where would she wear it?...would she only wear it once etc...well i was totally p.o`d listening to him...and i thought Oh why dont you just pay up you old misery!!!!...but her face was looking thunderous by then...and she stomped off!!!!...maybe i can refer her to Salisbury.

Horses for courses I suppose Gabs. You should wear what you feel comfortable in. Many women that I know sit firmly on one side or the other. But if I were your ex boss, I would have been very touched with the effort that you made.

LOL I cannot think of you as a lecherous old man or as sexist - you like what you like and that is all - you aren't saying that women shouldn't be allowed to wear anything else after all! I am not very traditional in dress sense - this is the girl whose favourite ever piece of clothing was a green suede miniskirt that barely covered my cheeks ( I was a lot slimmer then) although I did have the modesty to wear hot pants underneath! As it happens though I do like summer dresses - nice long floaty ones or above the knee, I don't like the ones that sit on the knee they make me look weird(er). I do have quite a few summer dresses but I am not sure if they still fit or not . I wish I could say I would be buying some more this year but I'm not sure I will - the kids clothes come first and they just won't stop growing! xxx

Pike - yeaahh you are back! Boy have I missed you! Big smooch! Glad you like the miniskirt sweets and I will try and get myself some new things - we shall see! lol Enjoy the shower - think of me and my bluer than white skin when you are in there! xxx

I am back Mummymo, although tonight I am just testing the water to make sure that it is warm enough to dive into over the weekend. I am too tired to post a discussion tonight. But maybe tomorrow I will let loose one or two. I had the shower, and whilst I am pink and scrubbed, that miniskirt is going to take some effort to get out of my mind. Nearly time for my bedtime story.....

Darn it Mummymo. That green suede miniskirt! I am now all hot and bothered. Milky white is a very sexy look. Especially on Scottish ladies. Of course the family come first. But if you can, indulge yourself - you are definitely worth it. Now, let's go and find that cold shower...........XX

I despise wearing dresses, and almost always have. Mostly it's because I don't have lovely shapely legs to show off. Granted, I will wear capris and shorts without much concern. lol. Somehow it's different to me. I do admire the look of summer dresses on little girls and some women (some can't pull it off, but bless their hearts for trying I say! lol!), but I will not be one of them. I will be buying cool cottons and lucsious lines, certainly. Only not in a "dress" form for myself (or my boys btw... contrary to what the Sausage Man thinks I should do lmao!).

Not being female or any real experience of wearing dresses myself I can only imagine what you feel. I imagine it is similar to the fact that I don't wear fitted shirts. If I did, someone would quickly find a role for me as a ball in a bowling alley. I am probably much more bothered about it than other people. But it is an issue nevertheless. Capri pants can be unbelievably sexy I think. I had better steady myself here. Don't want to go all unnecessary on you! I don't imagine at their age your boys would be too wild about wearing dresses either. Maybe if the Sausage Man were to wear one for a week first. Just to show how it is done.

I should defend his statement a bit... he claims that I should "just put them in dresses now and get it over with" because I'm getting them to like the broadway musical scene (we're still stuck on "Rent"... I listen to the soundtrack regularly, and watched the movie on Friday night with the boys).

I think I see. We know a few people like that. Started wearing dresses young and never stopped. Don't think that you should do it. Otherwise you will be buying dress patterns for the next 10 tears! Of course, they could always run something up for you. LOL.

I love summer dresses and will be buying a few new ones myself this summer. Men love them too. Every man I have ever met loves a woman in a summer dress made of beautiful fabric. Looks great with a tan too! I love summer!

There was a period a few years ago when I worked in a charity shop with an endless of procession of 'new' clothes passing daily before my eyes. Now I'm not much of a shopper, but I am a sucker for a bargain so when my dearly beloved told me how much he liked to see me in summer dresses I admit that I went a little wild. I bought summer dresses of all different styles and colours, I bought dresses that skimmed the ground & I bought dresses that skimmed my knickers. What I'm ashamed to admit is that most of those dresses are still stuffed in boxes and bags. Dresses, I have decided, are for women with clean houses and clean jobs. So that means they're not for me! Well, apart from those few occassions when I'm let loose upon an unsuspecting public. Then, if I put on a dress, people are so gobsmacked that it's quite alarming. If I brushed my hair as well, who knows what might happen?! ;-D
@p1kef1sh (45681)

I think that dresses are for women who want to shout "Yay" and let their hair down. Women whose houses are scruffy, cleaned when they have to be and who don't care whether they have jobs or not. Get 'em out and wow hubby and the rest of us. You know that you are worth it!!

The problem with letting my hair down whilst I'm planting spuds is that i get mud in it! But hey, I'm off to market in a mo and guess what? I'm wearing a dress :-D

Hey! I love those summer dresses too...and have just ordered for 2 of them. They are so feminine and comfortable. Though I like trousers and slacks too....I prefer the summer dresses when it's warm outside. I've also got my tailor to stitch one for me in the style I like. lol...I'm converting some of my mother's old saris into dresses...she's going to be so mad!

You have the weather there to make the most of dresses etc. I am sure that your mother won't be too cross when she sees what a good job your tailor's done.

i love the feeling of a summer cotton dress against my skin on a hot summer day. It is just a great feeling. I don't thing there is anything wrong with you admiring the ladies in the summer dresses. i say look all you want, there is nothing wrong with that. I hope your wife founds the dress she is looking for. there is nothing better then finding that one special summer dress

Thank you Momma. I am sure that we will find something. If I were female I would never be out of dresses in the summer. It is one of the times of the year that i really envy women their clothing choice.

Oh yes Pikey, cool summer dresses I have many to begin with, the problem is that I work in a computer shop and they are just not practical. I bought a nice spring dress at Easter and I have no doubt it will be last one I buy for the season. I just do not get opportunity to wear them much anymore. a baseball cap and jeans are usually all thats in order in my life as of right now. Now I think he would look just spiffy with labs hanging on your trousers, whats wrong with that?
@p1kef1sh (45681)
27 Apr 08
If I found an attractive, knowledgeable woman wearing a summer dress working in my local computer shop they wold have a customer for life. Especially if her pseudonym was Angel. The middle aged decaying hippy with bad teeth and greasy ringlets that runs mine doesn't do it for me at all. Although he does know his stuff. Labs on trousers? Every time I walked out in them, somebody would shout "fetch". No thank you. LOL.

I do not think that you are a sexist pig at all. I see nothing wrong with a man admiring what his wife is wearing. What I don't like is a man who puts his wife down because she is not the dream he has in his own small mind. I also think there is nothing wrong with you both being in agreement about what looks nice on each other. Sounds like a very healthy relationship to me.

I like to think that our relationship is pretty healthy Rozie. Like all couples we have out moments. We shall find something for her I am sure. Thank you.

I have a closet full of summer dresses and matching hats. I wear them all summer without undies. I hate having anything more than necessary close to my skin in hot weather. But I look horrible in a bathing suit (all those freckles!). So high heeled sandles, a dress, a hat and I'm good to go. I spend a lot of time with the sun behind me too! LOL

hi pikefish I love summer dresses as they make me feel very feminine and thats always a help. I have been having such a problem withmy weight I almost dread trying on dresses and my doctor is not a bit helpful, he just says quit eating me a diabetic I cannot quit eating but I do cut down. I should get more exercise but I have a bad leg and a bad arm and that hampers me a tad but yes I am going to buy me at least a couple of cood cottons very soon. even senior citizens need to look good.

I love dresses, p1ke, and it's virtually all I wear in the summer. Cotton, linen, silk, any natural fiber, yum. And I love wearing them when I ride my bike - the air feels so delicious on my skin. And they're feminine, let's face it, and I love to be feminine. I believe you know that. And what do YOU wear in the summer, p1ke? Linen or cotton shirts and shorts? Sandals? Tell.

P1ke Dear..you are such a gentleman to take Mrs. P1ke shopping and not complain if she spends third world countries rations..LOL..I'm sure she deserves it..most hubbies would just sit by a wall and act bored, but you give an honest opinion about fish not looking good with Lab Pups! never would say you are sexist, but a concerned citizen just doing your job of making sure women look refined and if your job is that then so be it cause Summer dresses i have a closet full!

I can do sitting about looking bored too. But according to my daughter, I do know what looks good. I am too conceited for my own good. LOL. Enjoy your closet. Lucky girl.
