Lawn Prep |

| Well seeing it was a decent day Tuesday, (for a couple hours anyhow), I decided to do a little more yard work. I have a mole problem and needed to spread out the pesticde for this control over their food source. I got the spreader out and spread the Mole control all over the front and back yard. this is harmless to the lawn and b=veggies and flowers etc as it only controls ants, grubs and a few other select bugs/insects. it does a good job as well. I also plan on fertilizing soon maybe this weekend. I also hava a couple bare spots that need some seeding as well. Do you use pesticides to control insects on your lawn? Do you fertilize your lawn a couple times each year? HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~ | | A Busy Grandpa Bob | | | | |

| | yeah it is rough looking in your back yard. You'd have to do like I did with the front yard here when we first bought the house. I dug up a majority of it and added tons of new soil and reseeded the whole yard basically. But now my back is half grass and half weeds but still looks all right. | | higrandpa bob did you ever have dandelion greens? My mom used to pick thedandelions and cook them for greens.grrr bitter oh my I never could understand why anyone would deliberately cook the things and eat them. It makes my mouth cringe even today. | | | |

| | Hatley, I think it depends on how they are used..My very picky son loved them better dipped and fried and I to mix them up in my juicer with carrots and other veggies.. | | | |

| | My dad used to make dandelion wine b4 I was born. Well, a few years ago, my brother had the last bottle of wine our dad made and he brought it out at a party he was having. That wine was 40yrs old and damn good. I've never ever tasted wine that was so mellow and it wasn't as sweet as the wine I used to drink at weddings and such. I actually enjoyed it and I've always turned my nose up at wine. Dandelion greens are good IF they are picked at the right time. You have to pick the leaves b4 they flower or the leaves will be bitter. Otherwise, they taste great as a salad. Never cooked them b4 thou. | | | |

| | Thanks blackbriar, I guess whoever made the wine I tasted didn't do it right, it tasted very bitter and yucky.. I would love to have more recipes to use dandelions myself, including the best time to harvest the leaves/flowers.. | | | |

| | Every year I have to throw out some more grass seed to fill in bare spots.. our maple trees like to kill off everything under them.. one year we did put down some lime to take away some of the acid.. but I don't think it made much difference! Maybe it did.. after we finally caught on to why so much grass was disappearing we thinned out some of the branches to let more sunlight through and have been seeding every year, and danged if it ain't almost all lawn again! We had gophers, for a little while til we got [1] our dog and [2] our cat, which was good because said dog.. old black lab is just too lay back to do anything about gophers anymore.. | | | | | | |

| | I don't have a problem with the maple out front killing off the grass. It may be because I seeded the front with shade seeds. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!` | | | |

| | wow it is just so much trouble to keep a garden and lawn, I pay the man next door to weedwack mine and that is it. I think there is fleas in our yard because for the last three years my cats have all been infested with them. I am not letting my one remaining cat out anymore, and I think I finally got the fleas under control. | | | | | | |

| | hi grandpa bob my grandpa used to fertilize our lawns several times a year too. and the moles that was a big problem back in S.D. He used something called black forty and I have no idea what it was but it seemed to control bugs and stuff. we had two beautiful big lawns.of course we lived on a farm. I was so spoiled as kid as we always had tons of freshveggies as we grew all our own. we even had some sweet corn and watermelons and strawberries we sold to towns folk. NOw we pay so much for all these things wow. I love sweet corn and my enterologist says Iam not supposed to eat corn, darn. I have diverticulitis which usually doesnt bother a person but I had a session a year ago when something caused a small blood vessel in my colon to burst and it took them all these tests before they knew what was causing all my bleeding and kept me in the hospital for five days and all it was was eating the wrong foods like blackberries which I also love, peanuts and sweetcorn. thats no fair. oh I know they always say lifes not fair.lol | | | | | | |

| | I don’t have a lawn so no pesticides and insecticides for me. just responded coz I wanted to say how green the lawn is looking! Scrolling thru various discussions it just caught my eye and I just had to see it. It looks so soothing and I am sure it will shape up beautifully this summer. Be sure to post a pix of that. | | | | | | |
