Ok folks this is disgusting...but I need some help here. Does anyone know of any home remedies to get rid of toe nail fungus?? I have it, and a couple of my friends have it as well, but the medicine they want to give at the doctor's office is expensive (I don't think my insurance will cover it either) plus you have to have blood-work done the whole time you are on it to monitor some stuff in your system. I cant afford all that, so I need some other way to get rid of it. Any Ideas???

Wow, funny I should come across this discussion. I just got off the phone to make an appointment for this very problem. My insurance will cover any medication or blood work, but my problem is that I have avoided going because I have a liver disease and I've heard you can't take the medications they prescribe if you have liver problems. I don't know how true this is, but I hope they can do something for it, because it really is ugly.

well I got some vinegar when I went to the store earlier today. I am going to take a shower tonight and put some on it. My cousin also told me to take a teaspoon of vinegar every morning and drink it with a big glass of water and it would help you feel better, so I am going to try that too...

I think I read somewhere that tea tree oil could be used for it. Draw up a warm foot bath and put in several drops of the tea tree (after making sure you're not allergic to it by doing a test on your inner arm with a drop of it) and then just do a 10 minute or so soak.

My ex used to get that, and he had good success with using the vinegar treatment. I'm going to give you a couple of links, the first one describes how to do the vinegar treatment, and the second one offers other alernatives. I've heard from others too that the Listerine soak works well too. Sometimes home remedies work just as well (and sometimes better) than medical treatments. I know we use Vicks VapoRub on athletes foot and it works super! (Something about the mentholated petroleum kills the fungus) Good luck!

I didn't know that Vicks would work on the toenail fungus too....thanks Vicky! When you think about it, it makes sense that if it clears up athletes foot, which is a fungus, that it would work on toenail fungus too. When I read about it for athletes foot, I think I read it in that Dr. Dobson (?not sure of name) column in the newspaper. I do remember it really cleared it up good, and it worked better than what he was buying over the counter.

I am glad I ran across this discussion. I put the two links on the one response in my folder on here so I can take a look at it later. I have a bad fungus on my big toe and have found nothing to get rid of it. I am at my ropes end. I figure I will just have to live with it. I have not tried these things that are mentioned in your responses to your discussion. Thanks for posting this.

I have read the links, and I have had more than one person tell me that the vinegar thing works, but I really haven't had a whole lot of time to try it. I am going to take a shower in a little while, and I think I am going to try it then. I hope it works. This stuff is aggravating to say the least.

I had it on my big toe when I was married to Jimmy, I went to walmart and bought some antifungal stuff for nails for like 6 bucks. Its over by the nail stuff! I think it was by Sally Hansen.

Toe Nail fungus will last forever if untreated. You can use the vicks vapor rub stuff on there and it is very inexpensive but it feels kind of gross I think to walk around with that on your toes inside your socks. What works good as well is tea tree oil. Its more expensive though. Its about $8 for a little bottle but it lasts a few months. With toe nail fungus if you use tea tree oil or vicks you have to apply it after every shower or bath and on a daily basis. You have to do this until the whole nail grows out. Also once the toe nail fungus is gone either clean the toe nail clippers very well or throw them out and buy new ones or the toe nail fungus will just come back.

I will definitely try the vicks rub. I hope it works, because this is the most annoying crap I have ever had to deal with...
