Mayo Or Salad Cream? |
|
Since it's the season for salad I thought I'd ask, what do you prefer with your salad Mayo or Salad Cream? Personally I like Mayo and not just with salad, on just about everything (within reason) I use it like other people would use ketchup and also like to put it on cold meat sandwich's. I know it's more fattening than salad cream but I do buy my super markets healthy option which is lower in fat. I don't really like salad cream I find it tastes to much like vinegar and separates if you put it on anything hot, and is just horrible if it's not cold.

2. azumarisan (305) | 3 months ago | I don't know what salad cream is but i prefer mayo anyway. It goes with everything like salads or fish n chips too! I sometimes like tartare sauce or italian dressing, or even thousand island dressing instead of mayo, but that's rare. Before i met my husband i used to eat mayo like Kraft, but now i use Kewpie mayo, it's alot less tart than western style mayo's and goes great with potato.

nancyrowina (1657) | 3 months ago | Salad cream probably has different names in different parts of the world, it's basically meant to be the low fat alternative to mayo. I just buy my super markets own brand mayo, but the best brand they sell in the UK is meant to be Hellman's.

azumarisan (305) | 3 months ago | Oh i see thanks for the explanation. I know Hellman's i have seen it here but never tried it. I must try it some day on your recommendation. We have "light" mayo here which is the diet kind, less fat, and i think i prefer it, but sometimes it tastes, not vinegary, but more tart than i would like.

nancyrowina (1657) | 3 months ago | Being cold burns more calories apparently so the cooler the better.:) I don't like the way salad cream separates if you put it on hot things as I like to put it on pasta and chips etc so it's no good to me. If I'm in a restaurant and eating something cold I might use it but I never buy it.

4. Transdisc (12276) | 3 months ago | I prefer mayonaisse over salad cream, nancyrowina. At least I think so, because I certainly don't like Miracle Whip, and I think that is salad cream. I remember the first time I tried Miracle Whip and I thought to myself, "Now I know why it's called Miracle Whip -- because it's a miracle that anyone eats it!!"

nancyrowina (1657) | 3 months ago | I don't know what they call salad cream in other countries, it's basically the low fat alternative to mayo. It doesn't taste very nice and is useless if you want to put it on anything hot.

nancyrowina (1657) | 3 months ago | I have to watch what I eat now too, I have got a low fat brand of mayonnaise this time but I bet it doesn't make that much difference.

9. whittby (1854) | 3 months ago | I have a friend who uses mayo on her french fries. She keeps wanting me to try it. I prefer mayo and my family prefers what we call "salad dressing". I usually use their preference. I have a few recipes that call for mayo - a chicken casserole for one. I know it adds calories so I don't make it very often, but it sure is good - made it without the mayo once and it makes a difference.
