Name Brand Kids... |
|
A friend of mine has two daughters and a son on the way. The daughters are 2 ½ and 1 ½ years old. They are growing like weeds. She buys them top line high dollar outfits constantly. They wear it once or twice and then it’s too small. She dresses them in kind of specific colors…one wears only pastels and the other wears only bold colors. So when they outgrow their clothes she tosses them aside and buys new rather than pass them down. She’s already started buying expensive name brand clothes for the boy and chances are that for the first month or two he’ll be spending most of his time in sleepers…name brand sleepers but still sleepers. I think she’s being wasteful and should wait until they are old enough that the clothes will last them more than a few weeks at best. I’d think that a parent would want to get as much use as possible out of a $50-60 outfit for a baby. I know she’ll do whatever she wants but it just got me to wondering. Do you buy your kids name brand top of the line clothes? Would you buy them for a baby when they grow so fast? Do you think it’s wasteful or do you think it’s a good idea? What’s the most you’ve spent on a child’s outfit? **AT PEACE WITHIN** ~~STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS~~

1. nancyrowina (1672) | 3 months ago | It's a shame if she's not even passing them on, she could probably get some of her money back selling them on Ebay if they are brand name baby clothes. I don't have kids yet but I know I wouldn't want to spend a lot of money on baby clothes because they do grow out of them so fast.

2. dumblnddzzy (8092) | 3 months ago | Since I don't have kids I'll go with my sister's experience's. They both bought NOT top of the line when they were babies. They both waited until they were old enough to appreciate what she was spending on their clothes.I think something like 10-12 yrs old. Then at least the clothes would last longer than a month, & they could pass them down to their siblings to wear. I think it's a huge waste of money to do this when they are babies. They grow so fast....Lori

3. tyc415 (2218) | 3 months ago | My children are grown now but I never bought them name brand clothes unless it was after they got older and not growing as fast and even then they were not bought unless they were on the sale rack. When they were young they lived on hand me downs and also garage sale clothes. We found so many clothes that were just like new at garage sales.

4. hiccup (3600) | 3 months ago | The BANK must be good in that house, but again it may be some one else's money and thats easy to spend until one day you have to pay it all back. Me Im the other way I will not buy any brand name cloths I feel they are all over rated.and over priced. I can do better at a much over price for fit and quality and price.

5. property (115) | 3 months ago | My kids wear brand name HANDME DOWNS. I do buy top of the line (or as best as I can afford) sneakers. I get them a new Coat every winter, but generally after wearing it everyday for months it is in no shape to be passed down. Everything else comes from thrift stores, although I'm picky about what shape it is in. I go to upscale neighborhoods and hit their yard sales. And birthday and Christmas gifts are of course new. I wouldn't want anyone to get the idea that Santa was broke...I shop this way for the WHOLE household though. My clothes are mostly hand me downs...So are my mates...I'm lucky that I'm small, I can were my ten year olds out grown shoes, and she has good taste.:)

6. minnie_98214 (3726) | 3 months ago | I will go as cheap as possible lol. I love garage sales and clearance racks. I dont understand buying brand name for kids. I can see as they get a bit older buying them some name brand but if they want more they can get a job or something.

7. sedel1027 (10636) | 3 months ago | When my son was younger he had a lot more name brand clothing than he does now. I would catch awesome sales at Macy's so the kid was usually decked out in Tommy Hilfiger. Plus, my ex-MIL is a huge name brand discount shopper. Right now he doesn't give a darn what he wears and is happy with wal-mart and target clothes. I have no problems buying him name brand clothes, if they don't fall apart. The last pair of name brand jeans I bought for him were ruined in less than a month!

8. lilybug (6951) | 3 months ago | I don't get it either. I remember when I was growing up my cousins that were like 2 and 3 had alligator skin cowboy boots that were several hundred dollars and $40 pairs of jeans. My kids have some brand name clothing, but I bought it at a yard sale or at a thrift store used. Or it was handed down. I remember once getting a ton of Old Navy clothes at a yard sale that were practically brand new because they mother bought it all and her son got too big before he wore it more than once or twice. I got it for a steal too.

9. Mirita (999) | 3 months ago | In my opinion since kids grow so fast is kind of wasteful to buy them expensive clothes. My younger son wore the clothes of his older brother. On the other hand if she can afford it why not? As long as she teaches them values and they don't become materialistic adults with no feelings.

10. lucy02 (4170) | 3 months ago | I think its crazy. I don't even buy myself name brand clothes unless its a clearance item and marked way down. I buy a lot of my clothes at yard sales. Children that age don't care about name brand clothes. They just want to be warm, comfortable, and loved.
