Laughing Jesus

This question is inspired from an Ebay ad I just saw for a "laughing Jesus" portrait... Where did the image of Jesus come from? How does anyone know what he looks like? Is the typical white guy with long hair/beard what he really looked like or is that just a guess? Ever since I was little I always thought Jesus was kind of hot (based on pictures I've seen)... that's not weird, right? I like beards, okay!

I agree. Jesus was an Israelite.

I dont know where the image of Jesus came from but I am a firm believer that IF he were to exist, "he" would be a "SHE" and shes a black woman LOL

That made me chuckle. I don't think Jesus was black (again, if He existed), but He was Hebraic. Perhaps He looked like Jerry Seinfeld, or even Kramer! And if Jesus was female, perhaps She looked like Elaine!

The Jesus That I know looks Hebrew. For he was Hebrew. Whether people want to see it or not, Jesus was a friggin Jew. he had curly, nappy hair and he was darker complected and bearded. I'd love to see him laugh though. I think he laughed and smiled a lot.

Oh and for the record, I find the "Anglo" version of jesus to be very attractive as well.

Jesus - What Jesus looked like.
Jesus probably looked a lot like this. His last name was not Christ. That is a job description.

Actually, Christ means "annointed one." Some would say, "Jesus the Christ." During His life (if He actually existed), He was known as Jesus of Nazareth.

lol! Molly you're a hoot. I suppose the Turin Shroud is the basis of a lot of what most people now think Jesus looked like. Though I read an argument (a VERY long time ago) that Jesus would not have had a beard, it was not fashionable. Proof of forgery? I'm not sure if Jesus cared about fashion... really... I very much doubt he was white though... that's just crazy talk. Unless... maybe he inherited His skin-tone genes from His Father's side and God really is white! Reminds me of a line from A Knight's Tale; Roland; Well the Pope may be French, but Jesus is English!

No one knows what Jesus looked like. The only description of him says he is not comely so that people would not be drawn to him by his looks. Because he is a Jew from the middle east I would say he had dark skin not white. Every culture seems to have their own idea of what he looked like. I did a search but didn't find the picture that I was looking for. I did come up with pictures for every thing from Lizzy Borden to Jesus by the early painters. I think He is painted as a typical white guy with a beard because that is what the painters see.

well, that's good question. i think it originated from the painter's imagination.
