How many time have you come across the mention of a woman in a Bible? I dont think many times, except for women being considered as an object of lust. The whole Bible is all about MEN,MEN and MEN. In those days didnt they get girl child who could also make their parents proud? Through out the Bible it is 'father of...','Son of...' why not daughter of so nd so. When a woman takes all the pain to give birthe to a child, isnt she worth mentioning? Why is it only about men everywhere? Dont get me wrong, I am strong believer in Christ and he has done a lot of thing for me and i Thank Him for that. This was a question which was on my mind for a really really long time.

If you believe that bible is from god.. then think that god has done this gender bias.. think that god wants men to dominate.. even christ also dint say to his followers who wrote the bible to give importance to women and not to do bias.. so this also means that the fight for equal status by women is going against the will of god.. as bible doesnt say anywhere that men and women should be given equal status.. what do you say?

I do not agree with you on this point at all. I believe that the Bible is a Word of God, it is not from God! It was not God who wrote the Bible,it was his followers who wrote it. Did you even know that there are diffrent Bibles for Catholics, Protestants and all other diffrent parts of christanity?? There are certain chapters which are diffrent in the Bible too. Is this news to you?? The days of the Bible were very diffrent than that from today. Do you think that you follow everything form the Bible word to word ??

No, I don't think God is gender biased as this would be inconsistent with all the teachings of the church and other religions about "God" or the "Almighty". Regarding the bible, when we read it, we should always do so in the proper context, that is, consider the time it was or the Books of the bible were written, the culture then prevailing and the customs and traditions and understand the writings against such backdrop. During those times, women, as much as possible, were always placed in the background, they were not supposed o be seen or to be heard and it was indeed an all male dominated world. Therefore, the way the authors wrote was influenced by the customs and traditions then prevailing where men were given dominance over women. That was how they could project and tell the story. But despite all these, the Bible still mentions women who were given special roles and influence. To name some, we have the Blessed Virgin Mary, her cousin Elizabeth, the mother of John the Baptist, Ruth, Esther, Miriam. If the Bible were written in this day and age, I bet you, many more women would be in it.

Have you noticed Proverbs chapter 31? It is full of praise for a good wife, and describes some of the things she does.... including buying a field, conducting business transactions and yes, getting up early to get things ready for her family. But it says her husband and children praise her and pronounce her blessed! Even in Genesis, God said "it is not good for man to continue alone.... I will make a helper for him, a complement to him" or words to that effect. So the man and wife are a team, complementing one another. Kinda like those necklaces that are half of a heart, and when you put the two together, they make a whole heart. There's lots of good stuff in the Bible about women. True, God did make man "head" over the woman (just as God is the head of Christ, and Christ is the head of the Congregation and the men, and parents are head of their children). But that doesn't mean a dictatorship. Men are admonished to love and respect their wives as their own body. (Ephesians 4, I think.) Still, I noticed you said it had been kinda a "passing thought". Hope you are happy to be a woman! I am :-)

I don't feel that the message contained in the Bible (or the Christian religion) is gender biased. Salvation is available to everyone who will believe in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, not matter what race, nationality, or gender they happen to be. Upon reading the Bible, though, I can easily see where you may get the idea that it is. You have to remember that, while the lessons taught in the Bible are timeless, the time frames in which the Bible was set, and the cultures told of in the Bible were cultures that didn’t give women a whole lot of rights or importance in their societies. As a general rule, a woman’s place was at home, serving the men and raising the children. Men handled most all business and political affairs. They were also the teachers and things of that nature as well. In some cultures, a woman wasn’t even supposed to speak in a house of worship. To put that in terms that we can all relate to today, think about going to a church service today where all the women in the church didn’t say a word from the time they entered the door until the time they left. All of the Sunday school teachers and other staff members in the church would all be men. How odd that would be today. It is for this reason that one may feel that the Bible is biased on the basis of gender. I never really thought about it at all until I read this post, but now that you mention it, there are probably a lot of other people in this world who would share your opinion.

The Bible is male-dominated, but you have to remember that the Bible is a product of the historical era in which it was created. Women were in the home. They did not have political, social, or economic power. In fact, if a woman was disobedient in public, she could be killed. It makes sense that the Bible details the lives of men. However, realizing the social structure that existed in those times, it is important to remember that gendered statements are most likely the result of historical ideology rather than theological absolutes.

A very interesting discussion. And I wish to add that because of such bias beliefs and teachings, more modernized Bibles came into existence. These are referred to as "gender inclusive" Bibles. One of the best I have found is The Egalitarian Bible" which is available at Amazon.com. It has made reading God's inspired word easier for me as it is worded more appropriately to include women wherever "man" means "everyone" and not just "all men." This is just one example. This may not mean a lot to male Christian, but it means a lot to this female Christian. =)

i also wonder why the god mentioned in the bible is address to as him or his a male gender, it really is bias,...if human that believe mention in the bible is created in the image of god can not we conclude that god has the image of a male and a female,??? bible for me is just a collection of books that are written just to read but not to believe....
