Is it me? |

My daughter (19) told me earlier today that she was going out tonight. It's saturday, she's young, sounded entirely plausible to me. She then told me that she would be going out at about 10.30 pm! Now, in my innocence I did not imagine that anywhere would be open for too long at that time of night. The restaurants are largely closed, the pubs, although they can be open 24 hours, are largely closed by midnight. But there are the clubs! They stay open until about 2 or 3 am. In my day, we went out at about 7.30 and got home around midnight. A little later if we were daring. Our parents would be in bed, but would really be awake and waiting. Of course I grew up in the country where often the most exciting thing to do was watching the church clock hands move. But even if we wanted to go out later, there just weren't the venues. What time did you go out on a saturday. If you are a parent, do your children not go out until late and do you wait up for them, even if it means not getting to sleep until the very mall hours. Do you yourself go out late at the weekend on a regular basis?

elitess (999) | 5 months ago | Well, i don't know what to say, i guess it really depends of the region you live in. I, for example, am 20 years old, almost 21. Here 18 years is the age where you are of legal age, i know that in America the age to become legal is 21, but nevertheless at this age i still don't like going out very late. I guess i am a little old fashion, but not because of my parents, i don't have a carrefew hour but i guess i am responsible enough to come home on my own. I also know, related with late hours, that sleep is very important for both the body and the mind, and although sometimes i sleep at 1 a.m. overall i go to sleep at around 12 o'clock at night. Now, i don't know what you could really do about your daughter, apart from the fact that you could tell her that you trust her. Take care!

2. dfn12968 (5580) | 5 months ago | You are ten years old than me, so your day and my day are probably not much different. I went out late like that pretty often, though. In South Florida, where I spent all of my twenties (my wildest years), I would go out at about 9 or 10 and get home between 3 and 5 in the morning. I'm not a parent, but if I was, I would probably be horrified thinking that my kid could be doing the things I did at that age!! I don't go out late anymore. As a matter of fact, I rarely go out, and if I do, I want in by 11 or 12 since I turn in to a pumpkin at that hour.

p1kef1sh (3101) | 5 months ago | I am not too bothered what she does - she's an adult here and has to take responsibility for her own actions. But you and she are clearly on a closer wavelength than I am. i cannot stay out late myself these days. Like you, I turn pumpkin like.

3. carlaabt (3095) | 5 months ago | When I went to clubs with some of my friends, we didn't usually go to the club until around 10 or so. I didn't go very often, though, because I don't really dance much, or drink for that matter (I was under age anyway, though). I would just go to hang out with my friends who enjoyed dancing and/or drinking. Anyway, most clubs where I'm from don't really start picking up until after 10 pm. They are open until 130 am. And they are usually most crowded from around 1130-1230. Oh, and I'm 25, this was about 4-6 years ago.

4. cjgrooms (2876) | 5 months ago | I do not go out late at night, i am to old for such foolishness. I can't see my 19yr. old going out at that time of the night either. I understand that she is grown but if she is living in my home and being supported by me she is going to show a little more consideration because yes i would stay awake until she got home safe. I have a 27 yr. old daughter so it hasn't been that long ago that i had a similar conversation.

p1kef1sh (3101) | 5 months ago | I shan't stay awake for her for too long. I used to when she was younger, but now that she is an adult she can come and go as she wishes. I just don't understand where this late night nigth life comes from. When I was young everything was closed by midnight. Those were the days.

6. Hatley (12706) | 5 months ago | when I was a young teenager I had to be in by midnight or else. I also had the same curfew for my son when he was in his teens too. no problems there. .I am an old stick in the mud and do not go out much at night but I have a standing dinner date with my friend Nelda and we go out together every other Wednesday night. we are really tame as we get together at sixand come come home by nine. on the weekends I stay home, getting too old to be out late at night.lol

8. edgyk8inmomma (1110) | 5 months ago | My oldest is 10 years younger than your daughter, so this hasn't hit home for me yet. But in my town all the guys with the hot rods hang out in the mall parking lots till wee hours of the morning. They sit there listening to music, hoppin their hydraulics, burnin out...whatever. So its nothin to see teens and young adults out around 10:30 till about 2 when the cops start to shut them down. I myself would prefer to go out around 9 or 10 if I plan to do some dancing, that's when the bands start playing and the good music sarts up.

9. kingcrapper (1007) | 5 months ago | I am much older and wish I could head out for the evening at that hour! With teens of my own and a much younger child is it much different...I actually use the older ones to watch the younger one! But then again, we are back with a couple hours just the same. I missed my younger days. When I could have been out partying I was at home, shy and naive'. 19.Hmm. I guess she is legally she is an adult. I have had this dicussion with my wife and we came to conclusion that if they live in our house rent free they will be going by our rules. I would expect her home by 12:30 or 1. Cell phone better be charged and ready when I call just the same.

p1kef1sh (3101) | 5 months ago | I don't worry about her getting home, her friends male and female are very good in that respect. It's just the notion that the night doesn't start before 10.30 that I struggle with. She came in at 3.30! She's at university so only here (briefly) in the holidays.

10. Goodie123 (7207) | 5 months ago | Well I must say you were lucky indeed Pikey. Where I was born and grew up the town was so poor they could not afford a clock for the church. So I did not even have the clock hands to watch. There was no night life what so ever where I grew up. So we made our fun. Needless to say I was a mum very early in life. My kids are all grown and left home now. So I do not have that worry, of waiting up to see they get home safe.
