It's four in the morning and MY GOSH THAT's EARLY

Today I had to be up early to take my lovely wife to get her lift to the airport. Just after 4 am I rolled out of bed. My feet touched the carpet and I slowly levered myself upright. All around me was a scene of ordered chaos as last minute clothes and toiletries were thrown into her travel bag. Stumbling to the bathroom I saw that she had "borrowed" my wash bag - hope she enjoys the razers and after shave. She'll have sweet smelling, if slightly butch, legs anyway! Throwing my clothes on I stepped outside for the first time today and was hit by clear skies, the hint of the sun rising and a slight mist. As we drove we saw deer, Hares and rabbits, enough blackbirds to make several pies (Four and twenty blackbirds baked in a pie), cattle and sheep dozing and a general contentment on the land. I can't say that this early morning rise is going to be a regular feature of the P1ke's life, but it was wonderful to see. Do you get up very early ever? What do you see that makes you glad to be about at that hour?

It's is about 4:30 AM now and I have to say that my favorite thing about early morning is the sound of the birds waking up. The first thing I do is open my windows to be able to hear it. It is quite energizing to hear how gung ho they are so early in the morning with their little bird songs....lol

I get up at 6.30 on weekdays and love to see and hear the birds. Spiders webs full of dew are more beautiful than anything man can make. It's also before the time the neighbours start with their horrible music and the sound of silence is wonderful.

Have you noticed how it is the blackbird that starts and finishes the day with his song? Spiders webs are beautiful. I love to walk by the river in the early morning watching the water fowl busying themselves. The BANG - the world wakes up and we are back to all those man made sounds. Give the birthday girl an extra bump from me.

It was hard at first...because I used to get up late. But I started getting up at 5 am when my older son was around two...and what a difference that made. I was really fresh in the morning and the air was cool and pleasant and I loved watching the sun come up (which I never got to see before that).
I still get up early...but I'm so busy in the morning (getting two kids ready for school...and then myself...along with cooking two meals for the day) that I hardly get time to enjoy the fresh air in the early hours of the day.

Yes....I am very busy...but that's only till my little one is a little older.
lol...I can take a shower, get dressed and be ready in 15 minutes! I guess that's an art mothers learn:P Liesurly baths are a luxury for me at the moment! Actually seeing the sun rise is also a luxury! I'm busy over the weekend too because my husband's off to work earlier than usual on the weekends and I work some Saturdays.
I'm waiting the time I can relax a bit in the morning...before setting off to work.

I commonly get up at 4:30 each day just to have some time to myself. There is so much to do when there are teens and young kids racing around. This is my time to do what I want: workout, work on the computer, drink coffee...there is nothing better that watching the sun come up on the golf course and listen to the birds start to sing. I express these things to my family: the wonderful scene of a new day but they bock at the chance of getting up any earlier than three smacks of a snooze bar. Their loss I guess.
Got any plans this summer? Packing up my class and am safe guarding the newspapers you sent a couple months ago, to share with next years class. Thanks! And welcome to a new sunrise!

I usually get up at 6:15 to 6:30 in the morning. It gives me enough time already fixing myself for work, though sometimes my time make me skip breakfast.
Being alive every morning makes me so grateful. I always thank God every morning for another brand new day!

How delightful. My mornings are always like that mate, living in the Aussie bush as I do. The skies are always clear, serenity is the norm. The bird life is not abundant being mostly galahs and cockatoos but there is the occasional grass parrot or aqua parrot to be seen. There are lots of the more common birds but no brilliantly hued parrots, colourful rosellas or nectar seeking honey eaters. I can sit here and spend a lot of time gazing into my back yard and beyond to see my goats grazing and a draught horse and a grey pony grazing in the next paddock. It's a harsh land where I live but it's certainly preferable to living in the city.

That sounds wonderful. I love to see brightly coloured birds but we don't have so many here. But what we do have are beautiful. In my book the country always beats the city, although for us now, it just wouldn't be practical. So we live on the edge of a small and picturesque city instead.

Glad you didn't sleep in - I probably would have! lol I very rarely get up that early anymore but i used to have to leave for work at 5.20 am many years ago and I never noticed any of those things as it took me about 5 hours to wake up properly! lol xxxx

no i get up at around 6:30 on weekdays so i have 45 mins to prepare, shower and get dressed for work. it takes about 45 mins to get to the office so i make it on time. on weekends, i usually get up around noontime. i do laze around on weekends just to make up for the late night sleeps and getting up early during the weekends.
i did experience getting up early when i need to travel to my grannies' province. it takes about 4-5 hours travel by land and by sea so its important to get to a boat early so i wont get sunburned. one of the best things i saw during an early morning trip are the school of fish jumping out of the sea along with the running boat. they're just so amazing.

I don't like getting up that early. I need as much beauty sleep as I can get, but I have to admit there is a quiet beauty at that time of the morning that you won't find at any other time of the day. It is certainly a time for reflection.

Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo, I always need my beauty sleep. That is an ungodly time of day. I'm usually all tucked in my pink satin bed snoozing away in makeup dreamland.
I would be one skinny b1tch instead of just a chick if I ever had to be up that early in the AM- LOL!

Maybe not that early unless im in dire need of a cuppa..but early morning is the best time of day..birds sing here, and we often watch the planes overhead ...the sky formation that tells you of the day ahead. But at the moment we have something special to watch, maybe not special in everyones book, but certainly in ours!Bernie and Bernice are hard at work building,I guess they are on the loft conversion by now..the amont of dedicated work that has been put into that little nest by our archway is incredible...Bernice sits yonder on a shed roof keeping watch, while Bernie lays another brick or two...well OK..twig then...but they are really dancing with delight at the prospect of these babies...Im equally as chuffed ,and have started knitting blackbird booties and have put my claim im for family tax credits....

I'm not usually up then either. Why do the birds build their nests in places other than the bird house provided. We have a holly tree that has been home to legions of sparrows. Actually in the tree is a bird box - they view it as a piece of modern art. Have they ever nested there? No. Why do that when you can build something that hangs precariously in a fork ion the tree. Crazy birds. Hope that you have more joy than I with the Tax Credit people. LOL.

Do not..repeat do not...ever mention tax credits in my presence again Piky ..or a suitable punishment will have to be found for you!!..Im in the process of `hooking` my binoculars out,so that I can see these blackbirds more closely. On monday I saw quitw a wicked little invention in the garden centre...OH BOY..I know how to be wild!!...it was a sizeable ivy in a sizeable pot with a bir box actually built into it..now that is mega swish!!!...but owing to the lack of tax credits im afraid they have to slum it in my bush..badly worded ,but you get the drift!....

My husband left for Jamaica and Costa Rica early Tuesday morning - well not as early as 4am but around 6am - he caught a taxi to the airport so I just made sure he had his stuff and packed his toilet bag (which he almost forgot LOL) and then saw him out the door. I took no notice of the outdoors and went back to bed.

If I hadn't taken any notice of outside we would have had a crash and the title of this discussion would be - "Would you let your idiot of a spouse drive you at 4 am"! But I have to admit, a taxi would have been very appealing. Still, I shall get to sleep to a sensible hour tomorrow. LOL.

Last year on vacation I rolled out of bed at 5 am to drive to the east end of the island to try to get a picture of the sun coming up over the ocean. Alas it was raining and the storm clouds ruined any chance I had of getting a picture but I did manage to find a spot that had blow holes and they were amazing.
Not another soul was around just me and my sweetie and the blow holes. I was happy to be awake before dawn that day.

My front porch faces east. In between me and the horizon is the grainery and hay barns. Before I got my bed back, I was often up early enough to watch the sun come up and bathe the sky in soft colour and change the hue on the grain silos from white to yellow to orange to shiny silver when the sun got high enough. No two sun rises were ever the same. At the first hint of light in the sky, the deer would come bounding back from around town and take refuge for the day behind the grainery. The Canada Geese would take to the air to find their slew and the huge barn owls would return from their night hunting to feed their babies in the nests under the eaves of the hay barn. Sunrise here is now at about 4am and the land comes alive with all sorts of creatures. It's a magical 20 minutes of frenic activity, hot coffee, peace on my prairie and then back to 'bed' until a more civilized hour to get up! LOL

rarely but when I do I get to hear the birds singing,
the cypress trees swaying, the crows cawing their heads
off, and ugh the five garbage trucks that make a godawful
noise picking up the five apartment dumpsters with enough
racket to wake up anyone within a mile. lol

On those rare occassions that I'm up very, very early, I'm normally too busy worrying about being where I'm supposed to be to look about and enjoy the early monring ambience.
However, in the summer months we do aim to be up and out fairly sharpish as it gets too hot in the afternoon to do anything useful. I must admit that it's quite nice to know that you've done a fair bit of your day's labour by the time you sit down for breakfast.
