Toys You Never Had as a Kid

My mum always did her best with the money she had. She would make clothes for my dolls, mend my teddy bear, make matchbox furniture for the dolls house she bought second hand etc. We didnt have all the latest toys but, what we did have was special for the time she spent on it. One of my most vivid childhood memories is of the box my gran had which held plastic spoons, cotton reels, bottle tops & all sorts of similar 'treasures'. All the grandchildren loved to explore that box and invent uses for the bits and pieces.

I had a lot of toys as a kid - I can't think of any I wanted that I didn't get, except maybe Cabbage Patch Kids. The ones I wish I could have had when I was a kid are some of the new ones they make now. Crayola has a couple of pretty swell looking gadgets that I would have loved. One is a glow in the dark board (Glow Station, I think it's called) that you color on with a special stylus looking thing. The other is the Glow Board... it's got two surfaces where you can draw pictures and then it flashes back and forth between the two pictures. On the commercial it shows a group of boys who built a fort with the dining room chairs and their Glow Board flashes back and forth between Boys Only and No Girls. Where was THAT when I was a kid?!?!

I used to ask for certain toys at Christmas then watch as someone else opened the present I had asked for. My mom had a habit of doing that to me.

I never had a Barbie doll when I was a kid. It was every little girl's wish to have a Barbie doll and whenever one of our friends receives that gift, she would visit one house to another to show off her new doll. Silly kids.
