What Is the Simplest Food that You Know How to Make? |
|
It amazes me how many people are stuck when it comes to ideas for things to make for meals. Personally, I think that things like grilled cheese (buttered bread with a slice of cheese slapped on a frying pan) or spaghetti (boil water and insert noodles, pour sauce over noodles after cooked) are fairly simple. Without going into detailed recipes, tell us what the simplest food is that you know how to make (and that everyone else should, too.) Peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, anyone?

1. kingcrapper (964) | 3 months ago | What to know simple? I will tell you a tale of simple! My wife is an excellent cook and an excellent shopper. She can create an eight couse meal without a thought. Problem is she also likes to golf on Wednesday. Hmm. That leave me hanging. Well, Wednesday night is pizza night! The kids and I have create a grading scale and visit a new pizza place somewhere in the area to visit! How is that for simple?

highlyclever (346) | 3 months ago | That's pretty simple! And if you're not in the mood to go out, frozen pizzas are about as simple as opening a package, getting out a pizza pan or a cookie sheet (we line ours with aluminum foil so as not to make a mess...) and voila! 20-30 minutes later... Pizza! Thanks for your reply!

highlyclever (346) | 3 months ago | Tuna pasta is another fairly simple dish that we have from time to time. We usually do ours from a box with pre-packaged spices or seasonings that usually requires some butter. I have, though, made tuna sandwiches by draining the tuna, putting the tuna into a frying pan and heating it through before putting it between two pieces of toast... Thanks for the reply!

highlyclever (346) | 3 months ago | I love stromboli! When we make it, we usually mix up the dough in the bread machine... We've never tried the store bought pizza dough... How simple is that?:) Thanks for the tip and for the reply!

highlyclever (346) | 3 months ago | Fried foods like sausages are another one of those simple things that you can pull out of a package and pop into the frying pan (or maybe even a deep fryer?) A similar simple food - while not fried - is hot dogs, which can either be tossed into the microwave and heated through, tossed onto a grill and charred to taste, or boiled. Thanks for the reply!

highlyclever (346) | 3 months ago | When I grew up, I don't remember having hotdog buns around... maybe they were too expensive? I actually remember eating my hotdogs out of a rolled piece of bread. I suppose that a soft-tortilla would work, too.

highlyclever (346) | 3 months ago | Another simple way to have your hotdogs is to cut them up, open up a can of baked beans, mix and cook (or cook and mix...)

5. SomeCowgirl (2085) | 3 months ago | I like to make French Toast and fried bologna. To make french toast you just take 2 eggs, a little milk, and some sugar and mix it together. Then you spread this mix on a piece of bread and put it on the frying pan and let it fry, add syrup when it's done for taste. Then fried bologna, you cut it in four sides and then put it in a frying pan. Very good. Have a Great day.

highlyclever (346) | 3 months ago | I've seen it where they have pre-made waffles and pancakes in the freezer section, where all you have to do is pop it into a toaster and you are set to go. Do they have something similar for French Toast?

7. Annie2 (279) | 3 months ago | Oh, I have a yummy tasting dessert that is so easy to make and I refuse to make it because I would eat it all! My grandpa used to call it green fluff. You just get already prepared whip cream (cool whip), can of crushed pineapple, marshmallows, pistachio instant pudding and mix it together and you are done! It is an instant dessert that is squishy and yummy and pretty. Oh, now, I want some!

highlyclever (346) | 3 months ago | I've heard of that one, too. Pudding in general is a simple and good-tasting treat. You can get the super-simple instant kind that simple calls for the packet + milk, or, you can buy it pre-made in little plastic cups! Thanks for the reply!

8. Hatley (11242) | 3 months ago | okay simplest of simple instant oat'meal and anyone can do that I hope. you just boil some water, pour enough into your bowl of oatmeal to make it the thickness you want and you are set to eat. no problems there. lol lol

highlyclever (346) | 3 months ago | Oatmeal is really simple, and I eat oatmeal just about every day. I makes mine in the microwave, and after the quick oats are prepared (usually about 90 seconds), I then add in yogurt... or peanut butter... or peanut butter and jelly... sometimes chocolate... good stuff! Oatmeal is just about as simple as it gets. Ramen noodles are pretty close, too. It all boils down to boiling water! Thanks for the reply!

9. TessWhite (949) | 3 months ago | Simple to me means a trip to McDonalds or ordering Pizza. LOL I'm a good cook, but I don't cook anything too complex. I guess one of my favorite quick fix meals is a recipe I call Mexican skillet dinner. Basically a spanish rice type meal with ground beef or turkey, and veggies too. It can be made in less than 30 minutes and only takes one skillet. Lots less dishes that way.

highlyclever (346) | 3 months ago | LOL at the fast food... I guess that's pretty simple! We've done the Rice-a-Roni or the stir-fry deal, where you get the rice going, add the spices, and then mix in your favorites for meat (for us, usually chicken - already pre-cooked and cubed) and vegetables. Anything that cuts down on the number of dishes to do afterwards is a bonus, too! Thanks for the reply!

highlyclever (346) | 3 months ago | Vegetables in general are fairly simple (wash and cut to desired shape/size)... not to mention nutritious! Your mention of cucumbers reminds me of how some people make cucumber sandwiches, which is another simple thing to make (buttered bread with cucumbers.) Thanks for your reply!
