I was appalled when I heard this story on last night's news! But then I thought, it is not surprising that something like a woman collapsing and falling to her death while in a hospital waiting room was bound to happen eventually. This story brought back memories of an incident that happened to my daughter some months ago which I posted a discussion on. She was hemorhaging while sitting in a hospital waiting room and not being given any attention. She had to leave one hospital and go to another to finally get some help. With the state of health care being so poor, it is little wonder that many people, like myself, have lost faith in the system. I can't help but think that the life of this poor woman might have been saved if she had been given the proper attention rather than just left there and ignored. The fact that there were so many people all around her who did nothing to help this woman makes it all the more shameful. Have you or someone you know had a disastrous episode in a hospital waiting room? You can see the video of this poor woman's ordeal here: http://www.whiotv.com/video/16758910/index.html

hi worldwise1 a big apathy. people at large are not humane any more. and it so happening in any hospital is all the more pathetic.
i think it is common in poorer countries and not so common in advanced countries.
but the life is a life and it has to be protected. people do not realise that if we an not give life we do not have a right to take a life away .
i am sorry for your daughter too.

It seems to me, juhi06, that human life is being devalued more and more as the days go by.

You are absolutely right, juhi06, and if people don't wake up soon we will be little more than barbarians.

I feel so sad for the poor woman, disvachic, and I didn't even know her. Any human being is entitled to better treatment than that.

Actually, I was not really that surprise since there are lots of incidents like that I been hearing all around. It is sad to say that most people feel more scared being in the hospital than being feel safe. It like how our technology rise like crazy is like how the quality of hospitals nowadays decrease. This problem are brought of so many factors like money of how low there salary that they have much sympathy, next is the lacking of etiquette and I think the most important of all is the lack of having the heart for sick people.

The very fact, lossforredwords, that this woman had given herself over to the care of those who were supposed to look after her, and they failed to do so, makes it that much worse.

I'm so sorry about your daughter. I did see the video of the woman dieing in the emergency room and it was extremely cold hearted. Their have been some people who die in the emergency room at the hospital I go to. Sometimes people are waiting in their for hours.

Thank you, elmiko, and such a situation is unacceptable in any country in these modern times.

The sad, really and truly sad thing about this is that all it takes to avoid these things is somebody being around to care for and do the necessary.
Either the hospital system is overworked or understaffed or the people there just don't care about what they are doing.
The needfull is always to make sure there is enough staff to care for everybody and to make sure no one who is employed in a hospital slacks off in caring for patients.
Its so simple to solve its pathetic.

Those are good points, Bluepatch, but hospital over-crowding is a fact. I know that something must be done to solve this problem.

I heard that news. To me it was shocking that why no one would notice the falling woman and let her to die. Even the camera shows some staff passing by, I was surprised that they did not care about that woman and did not help her at all. The hospital should be ashamed and should also be fined for the big mistake. This is just shocking!

This is terrible, I mean here in the UK if it is bad you get taken in straight away and it is worse that none of the others tried to help by telling the Nurse how bad this Woman was I hope that her Family will sue that Hospital in my eyes there should be a big investigation done on this case it can't go on like that

That is awful. I hope her family sues this hospital for allowing this to happen. Of course I had a uncle awhile back because of the hospital in my town gave him the wrong medication which was awful. My aunt is sueing the hospital here. Which I don't blame her one bit. The hospital in my town is terrible. I go out of town myself whenever I have needed help. Espically after the first time that my body had problems with a medicaition on was on at the time and I couldn't walk. I had to have a wheelchair just to get in. They sent me home and told me that I needed to contact my doctor out of town.

Health care has become a nightmare, Shaun, and the government is doing nothing to make the situation better.

Life is so precious and to lose one is always painful. We have a long way to go before we can adequately take care of everyone and I don't just mean health care but livelihood and housing as well. In many countries the problem is food and we see emaciated faces with distended bellies. What is to be done?

The brunt of the responsibility, underdogtoo, should lie with the governments. Since they are so intent upon dictating every facet of our lives they should be able to come up with workable solutions to these problems.

I thought this story was horrible. To make matters worse, hospital staff tried to lie and cover it up. Simply deplorable. To me that means they were full aware of the situation. I don't understand why they didn't care about this person's life.

Contrary to popular belief, cbreeze, people are still very much wrapped up in their own worlds, and giving little thought to others.

My husband told me about this when he saw the news story online. I couldn't believe those people in the waiting room just sat there and watched this woman die. I like to think that I would have gone to get help if I was IN a hospital and watching a woman collapse to the floor and having convulsions. I just can't believe they just SAT there.
