When do you decide to give your Best Response?

Best response is supposed to be the final countdown of all responses you received after posting your discussion. What I noticed here is that some discussions have already marked their best response within few hours of their posting the discussions. I believe the longer you delay giving best response the more response you get. I still have few of my discussion in KIV awaiting for best response. Giving immediate best response will only deter other people from responding to your discussion. Those without best response are more catchy and more inviting.

Yes, I more or less agree with your views. I also do not select the best response in a haste. I wait for considerable period of time to choose the best response. Once the best response has been selected, the number of members supposed to respond to that discussion, comes down, it works as a deterrant, as you have mentioned. I take 2-3 months' time in selecting the best response to my discussions.

You may say so, but if somebody posts a quality response to any of my discussions, where I have already selected the best response, I do make it a point to post my comments on his/her response. Like-wise, if any discussion appeals me, I post of my response, irrespective of the fact that the best response has already been selected.

I don't know but I feel that once that person has given out her best response any response that come after it will have no bearing on the discussion. It sort of saying 'i've made up my mind' Will he look at it, you guess, he has other upcoming discussions to tackle.

I am guilty of having posted a best response after twelve hours. Only cause I knew that I would not be able to return to the discussion and follow up any further! I did not want to insult the people coming by when I did not answer their responses. Sometimes I have varying duties offline that conflict with my time on MyLot. Often, I find that I get much better and more candid responses once I have marked best response. Anyone posting a response then, is doing so only for the enjoyment of posting or sharing information and not to win best response. With that being said, my practice is to leave all discussions open for four or five days and often for a week or more. Just depends on how well the topic is accepted. I have left some discussions open for over a month since they were so popular. I will have to wait and see for each discussion. I don't use one specific formula for them all.

I quite understand your situation. When you have many discussions it is only wise to give the best response when you are ready to give otherwise it will be left unresolved.

I agree. I think you should wait awhile to give a best response, a few hours minimum a day would be better. YOu shouldnt wait too long though, because the person would probably like credit for the response.

good day.. I give my best response when the responder gave the best message I could appreciate and the context of that message is adherent to the topic. I don't necessarily wait for the discussion to attain large numbers of respondent because I believe some the following messages would be more or less the same. So whoever give me the first context that the message can relate to and it is clearly stated that will earn my best response.

True, a collection of responses makes it hard to select the best one. There are all more or less having the same answer but differently worded.

I usually wait a long time before giving a best response. Sometimes as long as 2 months. I have had several people respond to my discussions several weeks after I post them and they've been wonderful or helpful responses. So never rush the decision.

Thats good you delay giving best response. It opens the floodgate to more responses. Your delay means you are still coming back to your discussion from time to time to give your comments.

I recon I usually wait a few days until there is a suitable amount of responses to choose from, then I choose one that is the most informative usually.

When I see a response that was very relevant to my discussion. If it says something that was on target, I will select the response as Best Response. It has to be feedback that I believe is very correct on that matter. I will have to agree, especially if the statement is made to be a very true one.

I usually wait a few weeks and then mark best response. But, then again, my topics aren't likely to generate a high volume.

hi friend i think every one has his standard line to decide whether or not it is a best response to his discussion. For me, i will mark one best response when it fits the content of my topic well.and I think it is reasonable to make me happy. good luck

You are quite right but you never know how many responses you're gonna get. So, I usually wait for about 1 day (usually the next time I login) and give my best response vote. Sometimes there are no replies or still further no quality replies. In such cases I do not give a best response vote at all. I agree with you that no one would like to comment on a topic which somebody already has declared the best response. It would be like even if you write the best, you will still the 2nd. I guess, a gap of 1-2 days is the ideal time-frame for marking the best response.

It is not that I aim high to get a best respond but a discussion with best response signals me that I am reading a 'stale' discussion and whether the owner of the discussion comes back to read my response remain a mystery.

when i comment on a discussion i dont personally comment to be awarded the "best response" but i comment because i have something to say about that specific discussion. i am one of those people who will start a new discussion and want some answer and then best comment i read i will give that person the "best response" because people tend to say the same thing over and over when i read the comments i get on my discussions. same thing, but worded differently. do you get more money when you get rated the "best response"...? or is it just the prinipal?

I don't think so but it is a matter of joy and pride that you be chosen as the best responder, sort of the cream of a cake. Will you think that person will look back once he has awarded the best response. He has resolved his discussion and responding will only give you a credit but not the owner of the discussion.

I always wait for sometime before I mark the best response. When I find alot of useful inputs been given i award the best response.some of them take the trouble to go into alot of details which is very useful information and this is the criteria for awarding the response for me.Even if i find the best response being marked that does not deter me from answering the discussion, if the topic is of interest I go ahead and respond.

Usually I will decide to select the best responses when the discussions had posted for about a week. I think that's enough long time for people to share their views. If I am very busy at that time, then it will delay. I love China

Hi to you, I made a run down today as to my previous posts since I have decided I would be rating the best response on those threads I have started. I think it is on mylot rules mark best response after a week or more, I happen to give mine for the discussions I have started a week or more than that. I am also sad with our fellow mylotters who marked best response just in an hour, but I think it is their prerogative or right to do so, that is, based on how satisfied they are with the responses. I still respond to discussion though if it interests me to posts although the starter has already marked a best response, and I am in agreement with you that I prefer most to discussions which havent given or marked someone with a best response on. :)

It is only fair to leave it open for a bit longer to invite more people to share their opinion. Give allowance for others who did not manage to see the discussion when it was first posted.

When I saw the post first I look that content particular topic, is this worthy for people or me, that's most important for giving response, some times when some one wants to get right informations (not creative) then I am very much happy and interest to give my best views in right way.

I don't have an actual guideline; just that I'd most probably leave it for a week or so, and then choose the response that strikes me most(doesn't matter whether the respondent agrees with me or not).

I usually wait 24 hours and than I pick best response. When I'm looking for best response I try to find post that is helpful, longer than 1-5 sentence like many of them, and I'm looking for not offensive or irritating post. If I find it I mark it as best response, and if I don't I wait few more hours and then I mark it.
