I was wondering what books everyone are currently reading, and if they could make a few comments about the book like a mini review?

I thought it would be a nice way to get information about different books out as well as finding out a bit about other mylotters.

At the moment I am reading a brillant book called Starter for 10 by David Nicholls. It is a comedy book about a young university student, who just so happens to be based in my home town of Southend, and his life as a Uni student. To quote from the back of the book '1985. First year student and Kate Bush fan Brian falls for beautiful University Challenge queen Alice in a brilliant comedy of love, class, growing up and the all-important difference between knowledge and wisdom'.

The book is a hugely entertaining read, and makes me laugh as I read of Brian the boy who nothing ever seems to go right for.
My sister gave it to me to read on a long coach journey and I couldn't put it down. It goes to work to read at lunch and gets read in bed at night. I would highly recommend it as an easy to read, funny, but at the same time a cleverly written book.

Anyone else read it, or have a book they wish to share?

At around 1 o'clock this morning, I finished reading Dan Brown's Deception Point. I really enjoyed it and read the whole 557 pages in a day. It's about a huge NASA discovery, that is boasted as the biggest NASA discovery ever. But it not only is important in general, but to the Presidential race that is currently going. Of course, with 'deception' right in the title, there is a ton of it going on, which leaves for a lot of twists and turns. There is tons of action and suspense in it.

I just started reading the Dean Koontz book Intensity. I'm only about 30 pages into the book, so I can't give a real good description of it. I love Koontz' books in general so I'm sure it's great.

Wow, that is good going. Some reading there! I have not read this book, as this is not the sort of book I would normally read, but great to get suggestions for a good read. I do however love Dean Kootnz books and have read Intensity.. Enjoy your read and thanks for sharing.:)

Currently I am reading Book Three of The Bartimaeus Trilogy written by Jonathan Stroud. I read primarily Science Fantasy, but I must say this book is an original. It tackles British history after Gladstone with the premise that the statesmen are magicians who govern with the help of djinni and other underworld spirits. I'm enjoying it immensely. A fun read.

myLot reputation of 98/100. eveeee (401)   ranked 7 out of 200 in reader  5 months ago

I haven't heard of it to be honest, but I take it you have read the first two books or did you go straight onto book three?

I have to admit it sounds a good book to read and I may have to look out for it. Glad you are enjoying it and thanks for sharing:)

I gave up reading books a long ago. Yes, I got busy reading things online. It is interesting too. If I haven't done it before, how could I know that you were straining your eyes over Starter for 10 by David Nicholls. Not kidding, I am serious, I just refer the Oxford Advanced Learner's Dictionary when I stammer for words.

That is a great response.:) I like reading online too, but can't beat the feeling of a good book in my hands.

I like supernatural books like about vampires, werewolves, witches, shapeshifters, and demons. But I am the only one in my family who reads that with maybe the exception of my mom who reads the harry potter series, and the septimus heap series and eragon series. Some of my favorite authors are rachel paine, patricia briggs, vivian vande velde, annette curtis klause, darren shan, ellen schreiber, and stechenie meyer. Just to name a few.

myLot reputation of 98/100. eveeee (401)   ranked 7 out of 200 in reader  5 months ago

I do like to read supernatural occassionally but not often. You have mentioned some very good writers though. Thanks for sharing them:)

I love Starter for 10! I read it a couple of years ago and I enjoyed it a lot. I'll have to reread it. Have you seen the film? In my opinion it's not as good, but is still pretty funny.

I'm not reading anything at the moment, but I've just finished Jane Eyre. My mother told me to read it (!) but I'm glad I did. It was well written, a captivating story and despite being an old book, was easy to read and kept your attention right from the word go. I'd definitely recommend it!

myLot reputation of 98/100. eveeee (401)   ranked 7 out of 200 in reader  5 months ago

Hi Polly,
I haven't seen the film yet. I find I am usually disappointed when I watch a film after reading a book, as I get visualisations of the characters, setting etc in my head, and then the film spoils all my images;) Saying that though, I will still watch it when I can.

As for Jane Eyre, well it's an excellent read. We had to read it at school and I didn't enjoy it much then but I reread it years later and thoroughly enjoyed it. Thanks for recommending it and I back you completely.:)

I just finished reading "Fast Track", the tenth book in Fern Michael's sisterhood series. I love Fern Michael's books. She writes about women and how they bettered their lives and became stronger and more secure. It's alot of drama and love stories but I love them anyway.

myLot reputation of 98/100. eveeee (401)   ranked 7 out of 200 in reader  5 months ago

Thanks Wyldrose
I haven't read any Fern Michael's books yet but from what you are saying here they sound like my cup of tea. I shall definitely look out for some. Is it just the sisterhood series that follow this theme, or other books too?:)

myLot reputation of 100/100. Wyldrose (512)  5 months ago

She has another series out too..the Texas series.. but you have to read all ten of the Texas series books to get a feel for the whole family. It starts out with the Texas series, then the Vegas, then the Kentucky.. they are all about one family. Very good reading. She has tons of other books as well. Go to her website if you get the chance. They are all listed there.:)

myLot reputation of 98/100. eveeee (401)   ranked 7 out of 200 in reader  5 months ago

Great. Thanks. I shall have a look, because I am always up for checking out new (to me) authors, and when I like their work I try to read as many of their books as I can.:)

myLot reputation of 100/100. Wyldrose (512)  4 months ago

I like reading new authors too. I just discovered Laura Levine books..lol..they are funny and have a good story..

i am currently reading about 3 books. one on crocheting (which i do know how to do already but want to make a sweater); a book on tips how to make life easier while dealing with arthritis; and a classic book "all quiet on the western front". i love to read!

myLot reputation of 98/100. eveeee (401)   ranked 7 out of 200 in reader  5 months ago

Hi cher913
Sounds like you are busy! I do that sometimes and start more than one, and then can never decide which one to read when I am in the mood. I am still reading Starter for 10, but also at the moment, I have just started rereading a book about positive thinking by Louise Hay. I find this one a good book to dip in and out of though.
Good luck with the sweater! I have never done crochet, and am probably never likely too, as I tend to get in a pickle with anything like that:)
I have a few books downstairs that came from my mums on delaing with arthritis, and if I dig them out I shall post you the titles. They might help too.

My sister recommended Toyboy Diaries too, and she enjoyed it. I like to read journal style ones, so the belle de jour one sounds a good read. Will have to stick it on my list of books to check out. Thank you!
