Were you a good cook before you got married? |
|
For me, the answer would be a definite, "No!" I didn't really learn to cook until after my daughter was born. Actually, I didn't start cooking in the kitchen on a regular basis, until she was almost two years old and could eat with the entire family. I wanted to provide healthy and nutritious meals for my family, but couldn't cook. So, I got into the kitchen and learned! I read lots of cooking how-to books, watched cooking shows and did tons of experiments. Now I'm pretty good at cooking! What influenced you to learn how to cook better?

2. Wizzywig (886) | 1 month ago | I was a better cook ten years ago than i am now because i dont really enjoy cooking anymore. I used to love trying new recipes and doing lots of home baking and it was appreciated then - I think that makes a difference.

3. pradysgirl (217) | 1 month ago | Before marriage my mom never allowed us to cook, we had this very noisy pressure cooker with its weight bursting then and now distanced me from the kitchen, gradually after marriage you have to survive on your own, husband has to work, I was there at home, the very first day he bought me a new pressure cooker, showed me the techniques and taught me the basic of cooking. so I started from basic cooking to mastering the desserts now. I am confident now to cook for a party of 20 guests. I gather info from cooking websites, basically all my mothers tested receipes . Lastly my husband still cooks for me when I really get bored of cooking.:) bye

4. julietscreations (134) | 1 month ago | My dad was a soldier and when he retired he opt to stay home, run the farm and took care of us while mom is teaching in school. He is a good cook and he taught me to do housechores and how to run the kitchen when I was 10 years old. As we get older and mom and dad is off for vacation, I cooked for my sibling and when I left home to work, I already know some of the common recipes and delicacies. Maybe this is one of my traits that my hub cherished lol! Now I'm already a mom to my 3 daughters and 1 son. I see to it that they know how to run the kitchen as well. My eldest daughter is in her junior high and she already knows how to bake, spaghetti, salads and she's a big help when we are celebrating birthdays and other ocassions at home. I guess parents must be the first people to influnce the kids to learn how cook:) happy posting!!

| 8. JanetBRudman (62) | 1 month ago | Starting at age 10, I watche4d my Mom cooking in the kitchen. Whenever I asked if I could help, she'd either say "Yes, stay out of my way" or tell me to set the table. I asked her to write down recipes, which she did. I tried to watch the ingredients, how to prepare, mix, etc. Then when she got so ill she couldn't cook, Dad had to take over, showing me how while he made the meals from "scratch." In fact, he earned a living as a cook and sandwich man. But it was not until I got married that I actually did any real cooking. However, now I mostly buy frozen dinners, and on the weekend we either go out or I'll prepare a dinner from "scratch." I used to invite family and friends for supper, but now I can't handle more than myself, my hubby, and Dad (who is too sick now to do much of anything.) I tend to sit and watch TV while food is in the oven or on the burner, then forget. I either underbake or overbake, Once in a while my two men tell me it was a good meal. But, nobody ever got sick from my cooking!

10. carolscash (3246) | 1 month ago | Actually, I enjoyed cooking before I was married so yes, I was a decent cook. I feel that my husband would say that I am better today than I was at that time. However, I have to say that I enjoy cooking and I believe that helps out a lot.
