I always have some pieces of chewing gum on my pocket for times when I eat spicy food. When I can not brush my teeth I take a gum and chew it to freshen my breath. There are some articles that say chewing gum can damage your teeth and it can lead to tooth decay if you don't use sugar-free gums. There is also an article that says chewing gum stimulates our brain and improves memory. What do you think about this?

Nice to meet you.
It is not my cup of tea to chew gum because i always feel so dry in my mouth after chewing gum.It is reported scientifically that chewing gum can improve your concentration.
I think it is just a choice,it is totally up to you.if you want to chew, then go ahead. If you don't feel like, then quit.
This habit is just like some people liking to drink coffee, while others like tea.

I chew Orbit sugar free gum a LOT. Normally after meals or even if I'm bored and want to keep my mouth "busy" so I don't start snacking on junk food. Orbit has a ton of new flavors that are really good! I like the Pomegranate one...it's really yummy.

one thing i know about chewing gum, is your developing yourself an ulcer.. when you put something in your mouth to chew, you'll produce saliva, to help you chew the food, and will help you swallow it.. and as you chew, your stomach will prepare that certain food in your mouth by releasing acids for converting the food into energy.. but of course, your not going to swallow your chewing, living you acidic, which will result you to burp, and eventually will give you hyperacidity, which when it became worse will lead to ulcer..

I believe chewing gums is good in so many ways. The inventor of chewing must have done research to come up with this kind of idea. Not only it has disadvantages but the greatest advantage of chewing gum is it stimulates the silava gland and exercise the facial features. One disadvantage of chewing gum is people with no civic mindeness will just spit out the chewing gum anywhere they like.

I have always liked to chew gum, my problem is I swallow the gum when the flavor is gone. People have always told me that doing that is bad, it probably is but I have been doing it for over 40 years and have had no ill effects from it that I know of. As for stimulating the brain maybe it does, but what I can tell you is it does increase your confidence cause at leats it keeps your breath fresh.

Hi Muelitz. There are pro's and con's on what chewing gum brings. Let me share to you and article that I've read about this.
One of the nice side effects of chewing gum is that you increase the production of saliva, which is usually good for oral hygiene and your breath. The bad (and relatively uncommon) side effects include diarrhoea, tummy pain and flatulence (from the sorbitol in "sugarless" gum), mouth ulcers (from cinnamon flavouring), high blood pressure and low blood potassium (from liquorice flavouring) and higher blood mercury levels (from dental amalgam already in your mouth, but only in cases of excessive chewing). Other unpleasant side effects include mechanical injury to the teeth, overuse injury (including temporomandibular joint syndrome) and even extrusion of dental repairs. But the overwhelming majority of us chew happily gum with no harmful side effects whatsoever.
If you want to read the whole article you can take a look at it at http://www.abc.net.au/science/k2/moments/s1366318.htm
Happy postings! HUGZ!

It stimulates the brain in that you can't fall asleep because you are doing something like chewing. Cheweing in my experience caused pain on the joints on my jaw the same way we cause pain in doing exercise because we subject it to a repetetive activity for a long time.
