heres a question for you all to think about-
since Iran is refusing to back down from making its own atom bomb, do you think that the United States would ask permission from its people to bomb them first? or do you think that just maybe Bush will nuke Iran without asking if it was okay with the americans?

i only ask this because may people today still think that the U.S. government is run by the people for the people instead of what is really going on (the presidents points of views and beliefs)

and if war was to break out amoung Iran, what do you think will happen? Will it be just another "fight against terrorism?" or do you think that if U.S. goes through with its threat of "cooperate or face confintation" is just a bluff?

All the Nations of the world should come together and try and bring pressure upon the US and Israel to prevent a War with Iran.
The world needs to live in Peace, not War. sad
The scenario in Iran is frightening.
The Nuclear Watchdog, IAEA should be given more responsibility to keep Iran free of nuclear weapons. glare

Going by Bush's past history, where he claimed to be destroying WMD in Iraq and ultimatley found they weren't any WMD in Iraq, Bush may launch a war on Iran to look for nuclear weapons, and then find no nuclear weapons in Iran, after all!

Can we risk the outbreak of the Third World War? No!doh

but that is just it, iran is making them- they are digging for uranium and Russia is helping. i agree that this whole thing just needs to stop but it wont. no matter who gets nailed in the process. I am an American. Am i proud to be one- no. Not with the manipulation of the Constition, not with the President able to make up any law he wants and pass it without it being voted on. America isn't what it was 10, 20, 50, 100 years ago. Now dont get me wrong, i wish for nothing more than to have peace, but peace isnt in the cards. nor is it going to happen anytime soon. its like i said in a different post, "we cant just pull our troops and be like -"oh darn, we're sorry, here let us get out of your way so you can clean up"

it is a load of garbage. I think it would be better if everyone in the world actually met everyone in the world. then by personality alone can one be judged - not by the country in which it was born into.

Iran is provoking the US as a payback for the time it supported the Shah of Iran... tosquare things, because the Shah was very Westernised and pro-US (I think).
And also because USA is so obviously anti-Islam (there's no reason why it should be pro-Islam, though!)
Islamic mindset is like that, now.
That's bad politics.

"All the Nations of the world should come together and try and bring pressure upon the US and Israel to prevent a War with Iran."

Ha, ha how about putting some pressure on Iran about human rights and building weapons with which they openly claim they plan to "wipe Israel off the map" with when they get them?

And sorry to inform you that the U.S. isn't "anti-Islam". It's more like we are anti-terrorists or anyone who treats their people, mostly women worse than dogs. If you think Iran isn't a terrorist nation than I guess you have never heard Ahmadjihadman call Jews "pigs and dogs" or hear thousands in stadiums chant "Death to Israel" and "Death to America"

http://www.youtube.com/wa...

Gesh what would you think if you saw things like this? What did I do? I don't know these people, why do they want me dead? I could never ever take part in something like this and scream "Death to Iran" or anyone...

myLot reputation of 93/100. indianpedi (1163)   ranked 243 out of 3,817 in politics  3 months ago

Well, I'm not a Muslim. I'm by birth, a Hindu in India and today I believe in Spirituality rather than any orthodox Religion (which, if you will pardon me for saying so, gives a person bigoted outlook, whatever their professed Religion may be).
My country has suffered terrorist attacks from radical Islamists on a regular basis and thousands upon thousands of innocent Indian civilians have been killed since the early 1990s, when radical Islamic terrorists took off.
The attacks have invariably come from Pakistani soil (barring a few that came from Bangla Desh on our other side), yet USA continued to support Pakistan's Dictator, President Musharraf, without protest and did absolutely nothing to deter him and his country from continuing to perpetrate terrorism on Indian soil!

Have you heard of these attacks, has your media highlighted them or ignored them?
Perhaps loss of human lives in a far-off Asian country is not important enough for coverage or commiseration?
"Only America matters!" .... is what I have discovered over the years, from, my personal experience.
This shows up the double-faced nature of the US Govt to us, as nothing else would have done.
It isn't a one-off incident, too.
There have been hundreds of small and large attacks.

Well, we have protested to both Iran as well as Israel that they should both stop their aggressive behaviour, but Israel is like a well-trained stooge of America, and will not back off unless told by their Master!

Iran, as you have rightly said, is worse, being a country where the population is indoctrinated by Islam to fight America, because of their perceived excesses of in permissive behaviour (but that's another point altogether and we'll leave it for later).

The trouble with America is, it has to be always right in whatever it does, because of its social and military might.

It is totally insensitive to world opinion (and here I would I like to point out that today, like it or not, India and China form a full half of the world!)..... be it regarding what we see as decadent social behaviour, an overbearing attitude towards us, domineering attitude in business.... whatever.

I'm afraid you will have to look inside, to find the answer why the rest of the world hates America... we do not hate the People, we just don't like their self-centred attitude, which we feel, needs to change.
Please remember, times have changed, we are not Asian Slave Labour anymore, and we can give as good as we get from the West, our previous Masters (we were under British colonial rule for 250 years and Goa was colonised and brutalised by the Portuguese for 450 years.... they forcibly burned Hindus at the stake for not converting to Catholicism... there's recorded evidence of this, too. Now would you consider this to be an exemplary social behaviour?)

Coming back to the present discussion, America went into Iraq to destroy Weapons of Mass Destruction and to establish Democracy.
Well, did they find any WMD and has Democracy been restored?

Also, America supported Sadam Hussein, the Dictator, whom they later hanged, until they invaded Iraq... how would you explain that?
Was Iraq launching international terrorism, like Pakistan has been doing for more than 15 years, now?

What has then been achieved by invading Iraq, other than a tremendous loss of Iraqi and American lives and a messy situation there, today?
How will it be any different then, in Iran?

The answer lies in a healthy dialogue, I feel.
It will have to be a long and careful dialogue, extending over several years... trying to understand the Other's point of view, not dominating every sphere of life, giving respect to other Religions and other Cultures, looking at Others as Equals.... things like that.

As soon as ones set off..a chain reaction will explode. There's a treaty signed that although countries may be in possession of nuclear bombs they are not allowed to be used and as soon as one if used then it's considered a danger and hence, every country has the freedom to use their own. We're not just talking about a possible fight between 2 countries.. I know this may seem cliched but it wud quite literally mean the end of the majority of the human race.

sataness (62)   ranked 841 out of 3,817 in politics  3 months ago

And peace is impossible...We are too conflicting and unfortunately the blood is what our leaders thrive on e.e'' I think no one should be able to own those bombs or manufacture them..but Bush is a tad hypocritical considerin he has 100 stored.

No, I don't think the United States will bomb Iran because Israel has already let it be known that they intend to if Iran does not stand down. This is why Iran is now interested in talking with the U.S. and why Condoleezza Rice, our Secretary of State, is going to meet with them. They are trying to avoid an attack by Israel, and their willingness to talk with the Americans, who they hate, shows just how fearful they are.

NO ONE wants this situation to get out of hand because it could lead to World War III and everyone who could potentially be involved is aware of this. If Israel bombs Iran's nuclear facilities Iran will most likely strike back. The United States will stand behind Israel, with our air craft carriers currently in the area at the ready, but will stay out of any conflict for as long as possible. If, during this unstable period, Russia or China believes that the production of oil and/or it movement through the Strait of Hormuz is threatened, they will enter into the conflict which will force the U.S. in. So, don't concern yourself with what the U.S. might do, be concerned about what Israel and Iran will do.

Did the government ask the people if they could use the bomb on Japan? No. Did the government ask the people if they wanted to invade Iraq? No. So in answering your question, the answer is no. Will there be a backlash if our president doesn't get Congress's permission to engage in war with Iran. Most likely.

Iran is simply acting on patterns that it has noticed in US aggressions. Think of this, US claimed Iraq had WMDs to attack, Iraq had none and that's why we attacked. North Vietnam has WMDs and threatened to use them against Japan or the US a year or so ago. The US responded with diplomacy.

So Iran see that it has no choice but to obtain a WMD, because otherwise we will not talk with them, we'll just engage in war as we did with Iraq. If they get one, we will talk with them like we did with N.V.

Not so fast my friend, the government did not have to ask the American people if they could drop bombs on Japan.
Japan carried out a sneak attack on the United States Of American history bears out the horrible results of Japan's most poor judgment.
The United States Of American dose not pick fights with other nations, having most likely the most fire power in the world,it's leaders have use good judgment...All should be thanking God,for this truth.
The U.S. in my opinion will not one day say because we have plenty of fire power to wipe Iran off the dammed face of the earth, let's just do it.
How ever if Iran goes to far in their desire to harm Israel then I would say the U.S. will do all in their power even going as far as wiping Iran off the face of the map.
The United States in no way wants to harm the every day people of Iran, their is no beef with the people of Iran, but their is grave concerns over the leader of Iran,as he has used grave poor judgment in regard to the safety of his own people.
The mad mind leader of Iran has the same problem so many people has his ego over takes his ability to use good and sound judgment this is itself is a very dangerous thing.
It is popular in the U.S.A. for some people actually only a handful of people that get off blaming George W. Bush for Iraq.
But the fact of the matter a number of other countries completly back the president of the United States and was in agreement of taking the insane mad man Saddam out.
The senator, congress was also all the way behind George W. Bush.
The intelligence all concern had before proposal action has to be taken and it was, history will bear out the real results,it is still in the making.
The very people in the U.S.A.that love to keep the blame George W. Bush ball rolling have them selfs never lived under the rule of an insane man.
They have never seen their wife, mothers and little daughter's beat and raped repeatedly in any shape or form in all of their life's.
They have never seen their father's,grandfather's or their son heads blow of their shoulders in cold blood.
Their wife's,mother's,fathers, sister's,brother's have never been shot in the head because they failed to obey a meaningless order.
They have never missed a meal and they have never suffered and die in a dark cold miserable prison cell,so you see these people have indeed a wonderful life and bitching in the U.S.A. is free it cost them not one red cent.
So to hell with these kind of American's all they have to do in life is point fingers and complain.
The fact is the U.S. has made it very clear to all the world
the U.S.they talk to the leader of Iran, but their is conditions, lay side their efforts in nuclear power research.
This has not been done so their has been no face to face talks with the Iran leadership rightfully so.
However their is a U.S. figure meeting this week end in Switzerland, only sitting in at the table meetings listening, the meetings is not for talks with the Iran leader.
The way the U.S. will face off with Iran is if Iran dares to harm the people of Israel.
People in the middle east as a whole do not believe Holy Bible teachings so they don't begin to understand the times in which we do live.
The Bible make it crystal clear in this world they will never be peace, peace, peace then sudden destruction,Bible scripture, them thinking this world will live in peace one day are in reality saying they know better then he 'God' would created this world.
Them that do believe the Holy word then should know where we are at today in history,we are actually at the end of this world history,it soon all will pass away.

I don't agree that Iran is acting on patterns that it has noticed in the U.S., Iran is intent upon destroying Israel and has stated that many times. Israel is the most dangerous threat to them right now, not the U.S. And, by the way, Iran and the U.S. are talking after all these years. Why? Because Israel has said that they will destroy Iran's nuclear facilities and Iran knows that they can and will so now they're looking to the U.S. for help.

TantrooM (52)   ranked 328 out of 3,817 in politics  3 months ago

Maybe I did jump the gun on the North Vietnam, Iran connect. Maybe they are more interested in Isreal then Iran. However if the conflict is between those two and those two only, then why even get involved militarily? If Israel can defend itself then why do I keep seeing these "Kill Iran before they get the nukes." call? Do we not believe that our ally has the judgment to make that call? Or do we believe them all inferior to our god-like understanding. Cause lets face it, our government has never made a mistake.

When we got involved in any war we have won, it was a clear and more importantly TRUE retaliation response to an attack on our citizens. WW1, the Lusitania, WW2 Pearl Harbor. Our government tried to tie Iraq with 9/11 knowing this fact, setting up a retaliatory response. Afghanistan did have ties with 9/11, as it was where Osama and the terrorists were, and we were successful there before we turned it into a two front war because Bush had to go after Saddam. And since he is the commander of the military (via the constitution) this isn't the 'blame game', but my honest opinion on a mistake... one which became a grave error when it was never corrected. You can have the mightiest military in the world, but if you allow the enemy to split it up so much, they will succeed. This was Hitler's biggest blunder in his, until that point, successful offensive.

Removing Saddam from power made Iran a threat... because Iran and Iraq were squandering adversaries. It would be as if someone removed your brother from your room, you would no longer be squandering over whose side of the room is bigger. You would instead concentrate on taking the living room. Iran and Iraq might have been threats, but they were at least threats to each other as well.

Iraq was a pre-emptive strike... one that was found unwarranted. Papers have been released stating that bogus intelligence was used to sell the war, WMD claims, 9/11 connection claims. Sadly we are now in the Boy who cried wolf complex. The people are not going to believe Iran is an actual wolf until a sheep dies. Because our government has cried wolf so many time people are losing their trust in them, and the media as well.

The original question was is that will the people have a say in the dropping of the bomb, and the obvious answer is no. The government doesn't ask the people's advise for military strategy. The president will decide that, hopefully he keeps a cool head this time. The President may have made a mistake, and it may paint him badly, warranted or not. But that just comes with the job, maybe you should stop complaining on his part, before you claim me as complaining and not just giving an opinion.

I think you're under a misapprehension as to how the US Government works. Last I heard, it's never been required to get a referendum or public vote to declare war on another country. Or, indeed, on any matter.

Or were you aware of this and just decide to stir up some biased rhetoric about a hypothetical situation?

He asked the people through Congress and Congress approved. Remember Senator Clinton said that her private research proved to her that Iraq had WMDs. President Clinton said they had WMDs and were a danger to the US.

I think the US needs to back off from Iran and leave them alone. For one thing it has been proven that what they are making over there is nothing new and nothing that we need to be concerned about. The president has his own agenda and personal motives for wanting to bomb Iran. Besides, what business is it of ours. We have enough nuclear power to destroy the earth and they can't have any weapons? how is that right? I think the US needs to stop bullying other countries and try to make peace with the world.

myLot reputation of 80/100. tigertang (1485)   ranked 385 out of 3,817 in politics  3 months ago

It seems that the problem for Iran is typical of that of many Middle Eastern countries - lots of hot air. The Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is actually from a long line of hot air balloon artist that have made politics in that part of the world so interesting.

Will the US attack Iran. Well, on paper no. The US allies in the region are tired of the American idea of "regime change," and with so many problems in Iraq, the treasury and not to mention the Pentagon would probably be against taking on Iran, which is twice the size of Iraq and the people are motivated by religion rather than a fear of a secular dictator.

Furthermore, despite his 'anti-Israel' rethoric, the Iranian President is probably smart enough to know that it will take Iran quite sometime to go against Israel, which actually has the nuclear bomb (several in fact - but nobody seems terribly bothered to get them to play by the rules). If anything, Iran will probably keep the status quo and make a few "Anti-US" and "Anti-Israel" statements for domestic consumption.

Then again, one should never underestimate the incompetence of the Bush Administration. What better way can there be for a President to rescue his legacy in the dying days of his Administration than by being seen to rescue Israel from it's biggest threat?

I'm starting to think though that the world may be better off with an nuclear armed Iran. If the Iranians could fight back, the cowards in the Bush Administration would think twice about invading and suddenly become very eager to negotiate. Just look at North Korea. The Dear Leader does not make speeches about wiping anyone of the face of the planet - he merely tests a nuclear bomb and points them at South Korea and Japan, two countries that invest in and create jobs for the USA rather than demand Aid and loans like a country that the USA feels the need to defend in the Middle East.

Needless to say, the Bush Administration is allot less interested in threatening th e Dear Leader of North Korea with the military option and far more interested in paying him off at the negotiating table - the lessons should not be lost of Tehran.

good day... Using a nuclear bomb for the purpose of anti-terrorism is getting ahead of ourselves and putting world's conflict into a whole new level. When this happens innocent people are likely to suffer first than those who are in power and those who are responsible.Sad to say, Iran acquiring a nuke bomb is viewed as immediate threat by Israel who has already nuclear bombs. So Israel can have one and Iran can't? I don't know how long this conflict would last but I do believe a nation can't dictate another nation and those who have nuclear weapons shouldn't stop others from acquiring one as well.
