 I just saw The Mist and I must say that this movie is now my favorite Stephen King movie, beating my previous favorites: Secret Window and Pet Semetary. When I first saw this film being advertised the first thing I thought was that it was some remake of The Fog so I didn't try to see it.
Now that its available on DVD I was able to talk to the Blockbuster Rep and he convinced me that it was a great movie and story and that I would not regret.
He was right. It was GREAT! Very scary and rather moving, especially in the end.
I hope if you have had reservations about seeing it, you reconsider.

I like cliffhangers if I don't have to wait too long to find out what happens.:) In Secret Window, I was surprised how it ended and The Mist is the same. I never suspected the ending to turn out the way it did. I watch a lot of Sci Fi and the ending is almost always a happy "boy gets girl" type of ending. Same.. same.. same.. YAWWWWNNNNN... So even though Mist did not have such a happy ending, I found it rather REFRESHING as long as it was done CORRECTLY, without making the protaganist look silly or stupid. In this movie, it was just a terrible twist of fate, bad luck, and irony that what happened happened. | |

2.  arkaf61 (4620) | 3 months ago |  I did enjoy it as well. I enjoyed the story itself and the way it was put into a movie. It is one movie that I would recommend as well.
As for the fog, I didn't like it, and I can see why you thought about staying away from the mist if you thought it was going to be something like the fog.

The part where the people were slowly turning on each other in the market reminded me so much of Lord of the Flies, where a bunch of school boys became violent and even deadly once left to fend for themselves. It was a good study of how people change when they are suddenly confronted with war or danger. Nice and intelligent civilized humans begin to change once their have to worry about surviving. The deadly menace almost, not quite, but almost took second place over the drama taking place inside the market amongst the people. | |

I wanted to see that when it was in the theatre, but I never made it. I've read alot of King's books some of the movies have been disappointing but it doesn sound like this one is in this category.
