Well as expected dads hand does not look any better. As the Dr said after a few days it will look worse. It seems to be getting smaller as far as swelling goes. But it is still nasty looking. Dad says it doesn't hurt him today. So I took off the bandage and ace bandage as well till tonight when he goes to bed. Well just wanted you all to know his hand is doing okay. As usual, here's a photo of it. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~

OOOOHHH.....that photo made me wince. It does look nasty, bruising can be very nasty. I'm glad the swelling has gone down, that's a very good sign.

Funny how it has to get worse before it gets better! But at least he is on the mend.

I hope your dad's hand gets better. I would bet he will get a h-- of a bruise. Is he using a cane or a walker? He did not have a stroke, did he? I guess you have a ramp and railings so he does not fall again. I hope he gets better and get around. It is terrible when someone falls down, especially when he does not have the strength anymore.

He uses a walker. yes he has had a few minor strokes. That is why I am his caregiver basically. We may get a ramp. He doesn't go anywhere though either. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

I figured it would be bad since older people do bruise worse but I wasn't expecting that! I'm sure if my hand looked that bad something would be broken...actually I have had broken bones in my hand before and the bruising wasn't as bad as that. I am glad to hear that he's on the mend though! Maybe you can try to barter for a different walker? There might be someone with the seat type that would rather have a regular one. If both are in good condition it would be a fair trade. I don't know enough about where you live to even suggest where to look for something like that except for under yahoo groups.

I am so glad to hear that your dad is feeling much better now. Yes, the bruise does look bad but at least it is healing now, I could see the yellowish healing color. Tell him to be careful.

hi Grandpa Bob I am so glad your dad's hand is doing better.looks pretty grim to me but us old people in our eighties do bruise spectacularly. when I had this horrible fall two years ago that shattered the bones in my left shoulder and necessitated a shoulder joint replacement, but I also hurt my left knee. it was not broken only bruised but the one paramedic said to the o ther one who was working on me,I have never seen a bruise that bad that didnt mean a broken leg. but thank goodness it was just a really colorful bruise,no broken leg. a b roken shoulder was bad enough. I could not lift my arm after I fell and I kept thinking its just that my shoulder joint is out of place.but it was much more serious. two years later and I still cannot lift my left hand up to the top of my head. some shoulder joint I have got. bionic parts dont work as well as real parts. lol.

Thanks for keeping us updated. I can understand how busy you are being the caretaker there. I hope he skips the rest of the falls, LOL. Maybe he needs one of those walkers that also has a seat, so he can sit on it if he has to stand in line. You are doing the right care, I think.

Well I know he will fall again. So far it's been farily good as every time he has fallen I have been around. All but once years ago. He fell when I left to get my wife and I found him in the hallway when we got home. he got up to use the toilet. Well he used it all right. I had a nice mess to clean up that night. Ewwww! I am talking with him about buying a new walker. He has one thats really new so he doesn't want to spend the cash. he isn't going to be going out anytime soon he says. Oh well. Thanks. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

I really feel for your dad! My grandpa has taken some falls recently, and his arms look like someone beat him. His medication makes it very easy for him to bruise. I have no idea if his legs look as bad, but if they look anything like his arms, then the poor man is in a world of hurting. He still smiles, but it is evident he is in pain. And is stressful for the caretakers as well, like you and my grandma.

Grandpa bob I am so glad that your dad did not break a bone. I am glad he is getting better. My Granny is in a board and care home and she ran away last weekend. She must have fallen because they say she has a huge bruise on the top of her hand also.

That looks so painful! I'm glad it doesn't hurt but it almost hurts me just to look at it! I'm so glad he didn't break anything, how are plans for the ramp coming? I will probably have to do something like that next year, too. Although my mom is very cooperative when it comes to things like that, I know she wants to put it off till she really needs it. Since she's here only a few months a year there's no big rush.

That sure is a nasty looking bruise, it would seem like it should be broke, if it looks like that. I'm glad it wasn't tho, and glad he's feeling better, and its not hurting him. If I had one like that, I'd be crying..lol. Have a good day

That looks painful still I remember you telling us about his fall at the lisence's office I was concerned for you and him both. Just keep an eye out on him and I hope he is doing better since the fall. It's good that you can care for him the way you do and really watch over him I know he greatly appreciates it alot. Keep up the good work.
