I just got back from a 50 mile round trip trek to walmart and I just was getting everything out of the bags , had to get some school stuff and tshirts and stuff for my son , well me and my little one had went down a clearance toy aisle and he got a value pack of disney cars a pack of 6 that was clearance for $5.00 ! I get home and see the receipt and they did not charge me the clearance price for these - they charged me the 10.96 price!! Oh well i need to try and watch better next time i guess. My little one was throwing a fit so i could not pay attention. Next time i will though.

Yes this sort of thing has happened to me to because i don't have a good memory for things, we have a policy here in Australia if you are over charged on a listed price and you correct them you get it for free, my sister has a fantastic memory for these sorts of things can have a trolly full of things and remembers every price and watches at the checkout, nearly every trip to the supermarket she gets at least one thing for free, at one time she came home with three free items, i wish i could remember the prices....happy

glareThat's a lesson I've been trying to learn for years! I've often paid full price for a sale item just because I totally forgot to keep a close eye on things, or I was busy with something else. How lousy it is to be mad at myself!

i hate when that happens because sometimes if it is not less than a certain amount i wont pay for it and then when i finally get home and see it was more i am so mad but at the same time so tired to go back to the store.but i have learned my lesson, now when the cashier is scanning the items i watch the price of each item as it beeps over the register.

That's why I use the U-scan, no matter what. I don't care how many items I have or that the cashier and other customers give me the evil eye. I can ring things up at my own pace and pay attention to the prices. I can pack it myself and don't have the flour pack on top of the eggs, lol. And yes, I can deal with the tantrums and meltdowns and not miss a price scanned.

Walmart has been especially bad lately with not having their clearance/sales prices in the system. If you don't pay attention, you lose out. Since I usually go at around the same time, the cashiers at the uscan know me and know that I have always been right. They simply overwrite and put in the sales price I tell them the item was priced at. They know about the problem, too.

If I would have been you, I would have returned the item the next time I would go to the store. Of course being that it is a toy for your child, it's a little harder to say that it needs to be returned. If you don't want to use the uscan, try to put such sales item on conveyer belt first or last. Then you have an easier way to pay attention and to see if it rings up right.

It should still be time enough to take the toys back with the receipt, even if they ARE opened, and explain what happened. Even if you cannot get back there this weekend, most stores have at least a 30-day return policy. If you speak to a manager just tell him what happened and say you're very unhappy. If that manager doesn't seem to be sympathetic, ask him for the number to the corporate center, get his name, and call the place with all your information such as the details of how you were overcharged, and how the manager you spoke to did nothing about it, and tell them you don't apreciate this treatment, that you can understand a simple mistake, but that the cashier should have been more attentive as well, and the manager did nothing to satisfy you. Usually corporate centers care more and will give at least some incentive to keep shopping there, such as a rebate of what you paid extra, some coupon like a 10% off your next shopping day, or something...

This is something that makes me mad as well. It's not so much the mistakes of the cashiers, because they are often busy and cannot know every sale price of thousands of items in the store, but when I try to get something resolved, and I know I am in the right (I have the receipt, it's the correct product, correct size, correct date of the sale, etc) and the manager is so rude it's totally unacceptable! Anyway, enough of my own venting, sorry you had a bad experience. Good luck!

That is why when I am at Walmart and I grab something that is on clearance I scan it under one of those price checker things before I even think about going to the register with it. I hate it when that happens to me. Even more so when I forget to look at my receipt before leaving the store.

That is when you can find a scanner that works.

Yes ... this happens to me all the time. I usually just take the receipt back to the store the next time I am going to go there. In your case 50 miles is a long way to go back and with the price of gas nowadays may not be worth it. I would call the manager and ask if you could get reimbursed the next time you plan on gong back to that store ... let them know the approximate date and if it's okayed ... get the manager's name. Perhaps you could fax the receipt to him or mail it with the intention of him reimbursing you back your money. It's probably worth a phone call. Good Luck!

That really sucks. But that is what to expect from Wal-mart. Maybe you should save the receipt and get your refund the next time you are there or get a refund over the phone if you paid with a card.

The manager's name should be on the receipt. Call them and let them know that someone isn't doing their job. They can't fix what isn't broken. However I feel that they do it deliberately.

I work at Walmart and we don't do things like that deliberately!!!. We see customers with things in their baskets shopping along and then they come across a clearance shelf and find something cheaper than what's in their basket. They remove the item that's in their basket and put it on the clearance shelf to purchase an item that less from the shelf. Another customer comes along thinking they found a bargain with the item that was placed their by a previous customer. They think it's marked down and when they get to the register they give the cashier a hard time. It's not their fault that a previous customer decided to put something on the clearance shelf that really didn't belong there. Alot of the customers cause the grief by just dropping items here and there throughout the store!

myLot reputation of 69/100. Angra_Mainyu (219)   ranked 2,466 out of 5,520 in shopping  4 years ago

Yes it is deliberate. When an employee doesn't do their job is it not intentional?

Also when there is a clearance sticker on 40 items then it wasn't a customer trying to buy something cheaper.

Lets face it, Wal-mart sucks. I guess you do not shop there.

myLot reputation of 83/100. sherlock27 (850)   ranked 893 out of 5,520 in shopping  4 years ago

I WORK there, so I shop there too!!!! Why would anyone that need their paycheck do things deliberately against the hand that feeds them???? Management checks the workers to make sure the jobs are being done right. What pleasure would the worker get out of doing these things deliberately, especially if their friends and family also shop there?

ohioboy2 (12)  4 years ago

Sherlock27's answer does make sense. Its not the employees fault but yet another unknowingly customer placing the item on the clearance rack. Kharma.

For some reason my response was removed. I guess the truth hurts.

I have been to several Wal-marts all over the country and I what to expect. Employees congregated in groups of 4 or more. Talking and laughing. You are not going to convince me that Wal-mart employees care. I have seen it in at least 15 different Wal-marts.

I know what to expect when I go to Wal-mart. That is one register open and employees that are not working and talking in groups.

I am not talking about the midnight stock people. The just put stuff on the shelves.

More than 75% of shrinkage is because of employees. How do you explain that?

I really would stay away if the store bothers you. You almost sound like you've worked there. It's amazing that you have a count on the employees in the groups that you say just stand there. When I shop I don't have time to count the employees.
