I have had friends who have bad experiences with them. Unless you drive a vehicle with a diesel engine, what are you going to do with the oil? Used fry grease burns fine in diesel engines (they were designed for vegetable oil, not petroleum). I much prefer my smoker to do a turkey (or other meat) and will normally cook 100F less than the recommended temperature and keep it for an hour or two more in order for it not to lose moisture.

Mine is electric and I have never had a problem with it. I reuse my oil up to a year.

I do not have one. I have not tasted turkey fried in one either. However, I have been hearing some great things about the fryers. I am considering getting one just so we can try the turkey prepared this way. They say it is really quick.

Nope I don't have a turkey fryer. I only fix turkey once a year and I have always cooked it in the oven. I am surprised but I have never had any problems getting a turkey done they always come out nice and juicy.

I do not have one, and I have only tasted fried turkey one time at a church event. I really did not get a big piece, so I do not count that as having any What do you do with all of the oil after the turkey is fried? That seems like a lot of oil to use one time.

You can reuse the oil just like you would in a deep fryer just on a larger scale. I drain mine clean out the crumbs at the bottom of the fryer then add the oil back in or keep it in the container it came in. you can also boil water and steam things in mine. You can make a ton of corn on the cob, a huge amount of low country boil, crab legs, lobsters whatever.

Yes I have an electric one too. I got it this past Christmas, and I love it. I have deep fried chicken, turkey, and believe it or not calamari in it. It works great. The calamari, which is squid in case you didn't know, is one of the dishes that I cook on Christmas Eve. My family is American-Italian and my grandmother was born in Italy. She prepared a traditional seafood dinner every Christmas Eve for the family. when she was no longer able my mother took on the task. I moved to a different state when I was in my twenties, and my family slowly followed. I like my mother, carry on the tradition. Anyway, the deep fryer really cut down on my time preparing the calamari as I usually have about 30 people for that dinner! What else have you fried in it?

Pork chops, onion rings (the size makes it better for that), fried chicken, the turkey of course.
