How do you feel about purchasing items for a new baby off craigslist?

We have many items left from when our daughter was a newborn. We have a stroller, baby tub etc. But we do need a bassinet. I happened across an ad. A lady about 5 minutes from our house has a nice one at an affordable price. Would you purchase the item or buy new?

I'm sure you can find something nice. People only need bassinets for a short time. So, assuming it was stored clean and the family doesn't have problems with dogs or cats, you should be able to pick up something nice and affordable.

Nothing wrong with using used things as long as you clean and sterilize them before use
. Bassinets aren't used for long what up to 4 months or so? So why pay a high price for a new one? Just think of the money you will save buy getting the used bassinet, that money can go on diapers and other things you still need. So if it is in good shape and you feel it is worth it.. I say go for it.
I would myself if I was in your spot. I have purchased many used things for my niece when she was pregnant and we cleaned it good and had not problems and saved a bundle that went on the new addition to the family.

I've never bought new for any of my kids. I never saved anything from one kid to the next because I didn't plan to continue to have a next, lol. And we never had the kind of money to buy anything brand new. Everything my kids had was used, and I had no problems with that.

I would buy it used if you can. Especially a bassinet. The baby only uses one for a short amount of time. I had two children and we bought or were given at my shower everything new. Then 13 yrs later I had another child and didn't have anything. I bought almost everything from garage sales or people gave stuff to me. The stuff I received or bought was like brand new and my daughter and then my son used it and I turned around and sold it at a garage sale. There are so many other things that you need to spend money on if you can save by buying something used and it is in good shape - go for it.

I can proudly say 95% of the stuff my son had when he was born even up to now has been previously used by someone else. Children grow so fast, that buying new stuff can be a waste. I do believe that pacifiers and bottle nipples should be new but that is a given. Most things can be cleaned and sanitized and if you think about it you sanitize and clean everything even when it is brand new. On the issue of a bassinet I would recommend a used one because they only sleep in it for up to a month, so why pay a hundred dollars or so for a new one when you can get one a lot cheaper. Good luck.

There's no point in buying everything new, if you can get it in good condition, and at a better price, why not?! haha. If you are worried about germs, just clean and disinfect it, and you will be fine. I would say, go for it! You will have some extra money for other things you may need.
