Among My Souvenirs

Yesterday i was in the mood to clear a closet full of things in storage and which i had not opened for so many years. I didn't finish the job because i discovered among the boxes so many souvenirs of the years that have passed in my life. Pictures from high schools, remembrances from friends, notes and letters, mementos of by gone days which brough back a lot of memories both happy and sad and memories of those days when I was so young and carefree. I spent the rest of the day going through these souvenirs and remebrances and recalling all those memories from the past. I had moments of tears and smiles and laughter while going through them but afterwards what was left was a feeling of sadness knowing that those days will never come again. Do you keep souvenirs and remmbrances and do you take them out once in a while and remeber those bygone days? Do you feel regret and sadness that those days are past and will n ever come again? If so, would you rather not think of those days and their memories or would you still love going over them once in a while to reminisce? I do.

I do have a drawer with remembrances in it. I have cards, letters, pictures and who know what else. I have not gone in there in quite a long time, but after reading your post, I may go and look through it.
I enjoy looking at those things. I do not think I ever feel sadness, I kind of relish in the moment.
I know that I still have my hospital wristband from when I gave birth to my son.
Thanks for bringing back the memories.

Oh yes sudalunts, there's nothing like going back through memory lane. I guess my feelings of sadness comes from missing those happy days or maybe regrets for somethings that could have been? But only for the moment and I do enjoy travelling back in time even if only in my mind.

You seem to be a sentimental person. I consider myself to also be a very sentimental person. I always have been that way. I have always been one to save pictures and letters of days gone by.
Yes, sometimes I will look at pictures and have regrets or reservations about some of the decisions that I made. Sometimes I wonder, what if? But I think it might not always be good to dwell on the what ifs all of the time. I do like to look at souvenirs some times but then I go back to life as I know it and count the blessings that I have.

Yes i am very sentimental although those who do not know me very well would think otherwise from the way I look. You are right. It would not be good to dwell on what could have been and what ifs all the time and i certainly avoid doing so. But when you are among your souvenirs and travelling abck in your memories, then it's quite excuable to think what if? But after I tuck away all those souvenirs i see to it that i also travel back into the present and face life and all its challenges.
