Liberal Media Bias

You always hear conservative republicans complain about how bias the major media is. Every election year I ask my conservative friends how they feel about funding the Liberal Media. Every election republicans send millions of dollars to the Liberal media outlets to run campaign ads. Isn't this like blaming McDonalds for making our kids fat, and then taking your kids to McDonalds for dinner? What do you think about this?

There's also the fact that the majority of the media is conservative, not liberal. Just look at the talk radio alone. How many hundreds of hours are there of right-wing talk shows compared to a handful of liberal radio hosts?
The mainstream media in the US is all owned by five corporations. Guess how many of them are 'liberal', lol. The fact that the American people were duped into thinking the Iraq invasion was a good idea (I read something that said that upwards of 80% of Americans believed that Saddam was connected to 9/11 on the day we invaded) is kinda proof positive of where the bias actually is.

Why did Air America fail? Why is MSNBC losing viewers? Why are the Major newspapers laying off workers and losing readers?
The people don't like the message they are sending. If you listen to Conservative Radio you know that there are many liberals who listen and call in to challenge the host. They are not always successful but they are heard.

Follow the money up the chain of MSNBC, and you end up at General Electric. *shrugs* There is very little light in the tunnel on television.
But when it comes to radio, explain why hosts like Limbaugh are often flanked--in other words, run against themselves on the same timeslot instead of against competing progressive hosts. Why artificially boost ratings like this? Of course, I ask rhetorically, because I know the reason, but I'm just putting it out there.

Thanks for the post Clarus. Great post, I never thought about the number of hours in reguards to media sources. It still amazes me today that more people haven't called for Cheney to be impeached. He was the first one to say that Saddam had a hand in 9/11, and even though he could not produce one shred of evidence to prove what comes out of his mouth, he still to this day hasn't admitted he was wrong. I still remember that day when Tim Russert asked him about this claim, and his words that he used. I think the world will be a better place when that man leaves office, and goes back to rock he climbed out from.

The only reason they spend the money is to get their message across. When only the liberal media is available you have to use them. With the growing influence of Talk Radio the liberals are getting scared. This is why they are talking about bringing back the Fairness Doctrine so they can control talk radio. The Liberal Media is losing viewer ship as is the liberal print media. Fox News is gaining viewers and is seen by people as fair and balanced to slightly liberal. If the liberal media wants to increase viewers and readers they need to start presenting the truth and both sides of the story.

The media is run by companies who want to make money, and lots of it. They will do everything in their power to make sure they do. While I will disagree that the media has a liberal bias, I will say that a bias does exist. I cannot exactly put my finger on it, but it goes beyond money, liberalism and conservatism. I will have to get back to you on that one. However, I think the Bush Years have completely changed the way the media was intended to operate, especially in a politically.

Thank you for your response Sumpter. I do agree that the Bush/Rove years have changed the way the media operates, and it also changed the way that the president has munipulated the media to get what he wants. It is a very sad time in our country for the media, the majority of them don't go out and research their stories, and many of the pieces you see on TV or in the news have to pass through lawyers. If watergate happened today, I am sure it would never of made it into a paper. Their are very few newspapers that still employ actually reports that do their jobs, most are pretty faces that read a script.
