Saturday my neice, myself, and her roommate went to the RenFest in Minnesota. We had a blast and I walked maybe 20 miles possibly more that day alone. I'll be doing discussions along these lines about the things I saw and or experienced in the near future. This is a shot of my neice (ToTo) and myself just after walking into the festival grounds. The place was jam packed by noon but I loved it. Is there a Rennasiance Festival in your area? Do you, or have you gone to it?HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~

There is a Tennessee Renaissance Festival. I go every year.
Is this your first time, it sounds like it must be.?
Your so excited about it. It is a lot of fun. All the fairies
and wizards. Do the have the human chest match, and the jousting
on the horses at yours.?
I think the best part of it is the huge turkey legs. How about you?

Nope not my first time actually.
I did a discussion about my visit last year as well on myLot. Hahahaha!
Go to my page I have a few discussions about it.
I did one about "A fight broke out"
That one is about the live jousting.
There were so many acts etc I can't recall a human chest match though.
I did have a leg to munch on. Love them things.
I ate too much though of other things as well. Hahahaha!
The best was a bowl of fruit set in a cream puff without the cream.
Fresh fruit and it was delicious.
!

I love that little house in the background too. It looks like something out of a painting. We have several festivals around here but not a Renassiance Festival. It sounds neat! We have something called the slugburger festival in July and then Hog Wild (a barbecue festival and cook off) in October. Then there is various arts and craft festivals during the year.

They had an area to walk through in the deep woods called "Hobbit Hole". It had all sorts of tiny little houses, bonfires, etc set up for the little Hobbits. Here's a house from that area. This house was maybe 8 feet tall at the tip of the roof and it had 2 floors. So cute. Some you could look into seeing the tiny beds and furniture etc.

Hi Grandpa Bob,
I've never been to one of these festivals, but I truly do enjoy these types of places. The closest I've come I guess, is that I have been to Medieval Times in Toronto, and a similar one in Florida, many years ago. Are you familiar with these? We also have a pioneer festival that's a lot of fun, not too far from here. It takes place every September, but I haven't had the opportunity to go in quite a few years. Great photo of the two of you, by the way. Take care.

My goodness is it that time of year again???? I remember so vividly you telling us about the Renaissance Festival last year and wow it's that time again. The only place I'm aware of that has a Medieval/Renaissance type festival and I think soon also, is a bit upstate NY at The Cloisters which is part of the Metropolitan Museum...I've yet been there...waahhhh

As you know, I lived in MN for a couple of years a few years back, but I never did make it down to the Renaissance Festival.
I did make it to the State Fair and the Horse Expo a couple of times, though. The Horse Expo was especially amazing.

I have never been to one but would love to go. Unfortunately there aren't any in my area and I would have to drive at least four hours to go to one. I would love to go to one and will if I ever get the chance.

There isn't one that I know of in Illinois. But there is one in Bristol Wisconsin. I have never been to it but was planning to go to it this year until my daughter got hurt and we couldn't go. Next year we are definitely there though.

Glad to hear that you had a good time at the festival. I have never been to anything like that, they have nothing like that around where I live or anywhere near to it as far as I know.

hi Grandpa bob we dont have a rennasiance festival per se here but in Buena Park they have some evening of When Knights were bold with men in armor on horseback trying to tilt each other off their horses and meals severed with medeival style food.I have never been to one though. we do have a month long Orange County fair each summer with rides and agriculture displays and new products building and various other buildings with various displays. you walk your legs off as they have all the different food centers where you can buy just about anything to eat. I used to go every summer but its just too much for my legs now. When my husband was alive we used to put in our display of EmE gardening service, and once won second prize for two hundred dollars for our display with ferns and shade plants and a wandering stream with a big old log, it was really pretty and we had so much fun doing it too..I still love your pointy hat in your avatar.lol.1 person likes this

I'll have a discussions shortly about the thing you describe here. It is called "JOUSTING". It is going to be in the interest group, Places I have visted, under Renassiance festivals. Look for that shortly. Here's a shot of one of those Knights with his lady entering the Jousting battlegrounds at the RenFest I went to. I love the RenFest even though it is a lot of walki9ng. I ate a lot of foods as well. Ranging from the typical Turkey Leg to a fruit cup in a cream puff with sugar not creme in it.

I love, love, love Rennfests!
I've been to a couple in Toronto that were absolutely wonderful, re-enactments, mud shows, craft sales, ale! They're fantastic. Unfortunately that one is no longer running, but I'm always on the look out for more near us here. You'd think that living in the U.K. there'd be a lot to go to, but there really aren't that many around here sadly.

We don't have one close to here...theres "Quad Wars" in august about 3 or 4 hours drive from here but...nothing really close by. its a big thing were 4 "Baronies" get together and battle for the crown through RenFest type wars, battles and such.
I have been to the RenFest in Minnesota last summer. I enjoyed it so much and we actually went twice in the week and a half i was down there. I especially enjoyed the comedy acts and the jousting as well as seeing all the costumes that were out there.
Quad wars is put on by the SCA (i think that stands for Society of creative anarchism) a website about them is http://quadwar.avacal-sca.org/
From what I'm told it was a blast this year.
