Curious George Here |
| |
| I just responded to a discussion that asked if you judged people because of their poor grammar. My response was, I want to correct it , but I don't judge that person on the basis of bad grammar. There are people from all over the world using this site. Some use the English language very well, some want to learn, and make a great effort to do so. I admire that. This discussion got me wondering. If English is not your first language, do you want someone to correct your grammar, or would you be offended? | | | | | |

| | *LOL* I write Texan, sometimes, too. Just the mental image of someone cringing at that makes me giggle. I know I don't always use correct grammar, but for the most part, it is my punctuation that makes people nuts. | | | |

| | Nope I'm still lost. I thought that someone from Texas is a Texan. Are they not? Perhaps they are a Texas'n or a Texie or just a plain old Tex! Which is it please? I am deeply frustrated now. Clearly it's not a term that should be used and I do!! I don't want to offend anyone by saying something that is incorrect. | | | |

| | Dharlin' Sis Irish. You mean that I have been getting it wrong all this time and you haven't told me!!! Now you think I'm a clutz (or is it Klutz). Blimey O'Reilly. SHOUT at me. I'm daft at best and Stoopid at worst!!! LOL. Bohemian. It all makes more sense now. I spent ages saying "Dahlin'" when I should have been saying "Dahrlin". I've just been lopping branches off a holly tree. When I get back out boy are they going to wish they'd not grown. There'll be no dropped "r"s all over the place! | | | |

| | I NEVER wear socks and sandals. Not done you know. I do have a hat though. A rather fetching bowler hat, goes well with the pin stripe suit and the rolled umbrella. That'll go down rather well in Texas won't it? Jean's? Won't she mind? Boots I do understand. Green wellingtons I expect. Rather! Super! Can't wait. | | | |

| | Spurs. That takes me back. When we first got the internet my nephew came by to have a look. He'd have been about 10 then. He was a fan of a Football team called Tottenham Hotspurs or "Spurs" for short. So we typed "Spurs" into a search engine - pre Google - and what came back was very interesting. Now I'm not sure that Spurs football kit consists of a leather catsuit, 6" heels and a bullwhip. Certainly the young lady wearing it wasn't recognisable as a Spurs player! I've searched, but I've never found that site again. LOL!! | | | |

| | English is my first language Bohemian and the only one that I can write in. If someone wants to correct my grammar then I shan't make a fuss provided that it is done in a good and constructive way. I'd never dream of correcting someone else's unless they asked me to or I really did not understand what they had written. I have responded at times "I think what you are saying is....." or "Thank you" when I have no comprehension at all. | | | | | | |

| | Sometimes, I just want to say, HUH? But, really, if someone is trying to improve their use of English, should we not give them a little boost in the right direction? Of course, in a polite way. I would never be rude about it. | | | |

| | My first language is English but I wouldn't say it's perfect. I do make mistakes sometimes so I would feel happy if the person corrects my grammar in a polite way. In this way, I learn. If it was done in a rude or condescending manner, I will definitely feel offended. | | | | | | |

| | I think it is silly to judge a person on their grammar, but if they wanted to ask me to help them, I would, There are more things to judge people on, more serious things to be worrying about getting your adverbs and adjectives mixed up and writing its when it should be it's. Besides if a person whose English is in the learning stage, sees how the others write, then they will soon catch on. So if someone who does not know English want to know, they could just ask and someone will help him or her. | | | | | | |

| | It does seem rather silly. I mean when I am in a hurry, I make mistakes, so if I am bound to why should I get upset if someone who was born in some non-English making country make an error. Besides I never went to University so how can I tell someone who did in another country that he made a mistake. | | | |
