Obama Using Female Surrogates

Interesting but perhaps grabbing at straws! What do you think will this strategy work? The Barack Obama campaign is seeking to counter the selection of Sarah Palin as John McCain’s running mate by deploying female surrogates in key swing states. On Monday, Sen. Hillary Clinton will campaign for Obama in Florida, her first appearance on his behalf since the Democratic convention. “With the McCain-Palin team courting undecided female voters, including some who backed Mrs. Clinton in the Democratic primaries, Obama aides said they were counting on not only Mrs. Clinton but also Democratic female governors to rebut Palin — and by extension, Mr. McCain,” The New York Times reported. Those governors include Janet Napolitano of Arizona and Kathleen Sebelius of Kansas, according to The Times. On Thursday, Sebelius linked Palin to the unpopular President Bush. "She mastered the words written by the Bush speechwriters and delivered them well,” the Associated Press reported. “But what we didn't hear was what people talk to me about every day." Obama aides are reportedly concerned that Palin, as a “hockey mom” with a special-needs child, would appeal to some undecided women voters. So a “rapid response team” is being created in Chicago, The Times disclosed, “to dispatch female surrogates around the country.” http://www.newsmax.com/insidecover/obama_female_surrogates/2008/09/05/128166.html?s=al&promo_code=6973-1

“But what we didn't hear was what people talk to me about every day." This quote made me giggle. How many regular people actually talk to a governor in the course of a day and how many governors actually listen? I do think Obama's people are grasping at straws. I wish them luck

She was 100% correct. The republicans didn't mention the horrible economy that their president has called "pretty good". They didn't mention the housing crisis that is causing a huge credit crisis that could destroy the mortgage industry. But, as John McCain's good friend Phil Gramm said, I guess we are all just a nation of Whinners. McCain said told Americans to test his conservative record with George W. Bush's, and see how they stack up. He has voted with Bush 90% of the time, and supports all of his major policies. A vote for McCain, is a vote for Bush, and the last thing we need is another Bush in office. It is great that we have a chance to vote for someone else that actually cares about someone besides the top 2% of Americans.

I shall take your word for it, debater. I have never met a politician that actually cared about anything except being in office. They hear you talk to them but they really do not listen.

This talk about Bush is so rediculas! Is it really his fault that we were attacked? NO! Is it really his fault the hurricain happened? NO! Who kept the US from being attacked again by going over and taking care of business? BUSH!! Whatever, you can say what you want about him but if it wasnt for Bush we probably would have been hit by a lot more attacks then that!

Looks like now they are afraid of her and what she might acomplish when she gets in as VP. And do you really think she had Bush writters write her speach? For what I have read about her I dont really think so she seems to be a very free thinker and really turn things around am hoping she writes her own words and tells it like it is!

I think that she basically had her own speech but that is was approved, edited and given some "tweaks" by someone in the speech writing business but not nesseccarily by Bush's own speech writer.

I really dont think Obama will have any luck from all of that. I think his lack of experience and the fact that he turned his back on Hillary has cost him alot of votes.People will also learn alot more about him as this all goes on. He is out of his league going up against Mcain, no matter what he trys to pull out of his hat lol

Well as far as Hillary going to Florida to help Obama, like one response said think about how she felt about him when they was running for the president. And I believe she is out there saying what she says in support for him, because it is what she is suppose to do. What her party wants her to do, because if she doesn't and he loses then they will blame her. Obama would of been on a good thing had he picked her for a running mate, but I think he is scared of her. Now I think he is running scared because the women I have talked to say they was voting Obama till the speech the other night, and they have changed their minds, they see a regular woman, just like themselves, who will go to Washington to help them. I didn't see any need to master anything when she made her speech, I think she told it just like it is. I don't think she is afraid to take on any of Washingtons gang. And I am sure if there is anything there to help with a special-needs child she will find it for the other moms that have such a child..For once I feel like we have someone on our side. Obama will try anything now to discredit her, why would his sending women out to knock what she said help him, I am a woman, if he needs women now to help him why was he so against having Hillary as a running mate, he seems to only use women when he is in trouble and needs their help. I don't think there is much he can do now, this country wanted a woman to be in Washington, she may go in as a VP but I see bigger things for her after this.

I think he made the mistake of discounting just how many women voted and we will not be ignored.

Well all the liberals have been accusing McCain of "pandering" to women by choosing Palin. Will they now be objective and accuse Obama of the same thing by using female surrogates to get the woman vote?

Whiteheather, While I can't find the article today, I read yesterday where Hillary said while she would be campaigning for Obama, she would not be attacking Sarah Palin! Hillary still has plans for the whitehouse and will not jeopardize her chances by being used by Obama as an attack dog!

I know what you mean and I don't want to "bookmark" every one of them. I'd probably end up with so many I still would not be able to find what I wanted!!

I think the whole gender card is a bad card to play on the part of both candidates, or anyone else, for that matter. People are people, and the best person should win. I think it's nuts the issues this election has made of race, gender, and in the case of John McCain, his war record.

I really don't know why this would be "grasping at straws". Sarah Palin is a female republican governor so what could the problem be and why should it be at all surprising that some of the Democratic female governors would be hitting the campaign trail for the Democratic nominee? Why wouldn't some of the female Senate Democrats do some campaigning for their two Senate colleagues on the ticket? I think it's more than a remote possibility that Palin is McCain's running mater mostly because she happens to be a very conservative, very anti-choice, very young WOMAN. The Republicans are apparently hoping to convince female voters who may have supported Hillary or who may currently be undecided to vote for McCain since he has a "hockey mom with a special-needs child" on his ticket despite the fact that this particular woman isn't really much on the side of many women voters in the U.S. and in fact as Governor of Alaska was in favor of cutting funding for special needs children. I'm not sure if that happened before or after her own special needs baby was born but for those who took her at her word when she promised in her speech that parents of children with special needs will have a friend and advocate in the white House, I sure wouldn't hold my breath. Sure, using high profile Democratic women is an attempt to shore up the very important female vote but I don't see it as anything but a very good move. Women are much more likely to pay attention to other women who may have some not so positive things to point out about Sarah Palin instead of resenting male politicians for "attacking" the first female V.P. nominee in over 20 years. The only catch is Hillary isn't running for VP. I'd suggest that before ppl blindly go where Hillary directs them...to BO's side...that they think back to when she was running against him and how she felt about him then. It seems unlikely that she's done a complete 180 and now supports him completely. If I were to hazard a guess, I'd say she's pushing him now b/c she'd rather see him in, even if she doesn't like him, then see a Republican get in office. Obama totally missed the point of this campaign if you ask me. The minute Hillary locked horns with him, it was a signal that a woman had to be in the race. Hillary's defeat showed us that a woman was not going to be President, but a woman can still be on the ticket. Obama misread all the signs and chose a man as running mate. McCain got it right and now Obama scrambles like an egg. And I can see he will be in the frying pan all to soon. Obama has been playing king of the mountain without checking the slopes and the slopes work just as well going downhill as they do uphill and frequently are a lot faster and more effective on the downhill. Obama is so full of himself that he just can't believe he makes mistakes. All I can say is sorry dude you're human like everyone else, get with the program.

I think that Obama's mistake will cause him a lot of problems. Women are voters just like the men are and we should not be discounted.

;please do not hiss boo or minus me,this is my own opinion' I am voting for Obama as I dislike McCain and the others but I am not going to say why as that just starts wars, my'right to my opinion is just that, my right, and I am not here to' be told how stupid I am either, you respect me and I will respect you. and I get a hunch that the media blows this and all other such stuff clear out of proportion.I leave politicking to the politicians. So Obama p;lays the same games as McCain so what.We will see come election day who wins, until then I keep quiet as I hate political wars on mylot.

Hatley of course I respect your opinion and no one is saying you are stupid but I do find one thing difficult to understand you said, and I quote, "until then I keep quiet"....? so why are you responding to a discussion under the category of 'Politics'? That is not being quiet. So in my opinion you are just proving to be a typical Obama supporter - confused!
