If an ATHEIST tells you "There is no God!" email this discussion to a friend?

myLot reputation of 86/100. ronreyes (609)   ranked 1,342 out of 38,357 in life1 year ago

What will be your reaction?
And what will you say to him/ her?

This discussion is for everybody to respond to, both atheists and believers.

Obviously, atheists will agree to this statement, so I hope you'll respond with your best atheistic manner. Like a "no-care" type of response.

Same goes with the believers. If you want to justify this with a Bible verse or a Koran verse, that's fine.

Ok, I'll go first.

I'm a believer, and either of these three statements will be my response:

1.) "Right, and there's no air to breathe as well!"
2.) "...and there's no explosion that has the ability to make all things unique!"
3.) "No God? So we all came from nothing? An Accident happened in the midst of darkness? Where does colors came from then?"

Im a believer of God. I believe that God created everything. He breathed us into life.if they said, that There's no God. Then who created them? evolution? Our world is like a house,. it never build without a builder, and everything we see around us is created by God.

Hey that's a good point!
A house will never be made without a builder!
And a design will never appear without a designer!
Love that!

I tell him that he is a fool. As the Psalmist said in Psalm 14: The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good.
I will also add if he still insists on it, "Do you mean that you do not believe in God? So if a fantastic being like Thor the Thundergod comes out and appears and grabs and shakes you, and strikes lightening bolts, they you will believe there is a god? So you would believe if a demon or an idol did something and not the true God.

I didn't managed to read all the posts but I made an idea of where this discussion has gone.
Let's take it this way. How many beliefs are there around the world? How many have existed before and disappeared? Now... how many of them have proof of their beliefs, and when I say proof, there must be some material evidence because words are not enough. Why I'm saying that? Well, if there would have been a true religion, well that religion would have had some proof of the existence of their god (like I don't know, all their prayers would be answered as for the others religions would not, or their god would appear in physical form as for the others not).
Religion has always retained progress by calling it "evil". If 500 years ago it would be blasphemy to study the human body, now this practice saves millions of lives.
Science is the only practice that tried to find the truth, and even if it didn't found the truth (and maybe will never be), at least managed to get closer to it, compared to religion which doesn't accept contrary arguments and debates.
I grew out as a Roman Catholic, and as a child I was forced to believe the things I was said, even if most of them sound so silly right now. But I used to believe in Santa Claus, magic and other stuff like that. Fortunately (or unfortunately as some Christians would say) I found out science and saw that it doesn't fool around, that it is universal and that anyone can prove a theory to be wrong and that my friend is called progress. No one starts a war because of it, no one gets upset, no lives lost. Everyone is happy and the guy gets a Nobel prize too.
But like George used to say, the most important commandment in the Bible is "Thy shall keep your religion to thyself" and I think everyone should stick to it.
Happy mylotting!;)

myLot reputation of 86/100. ronreyes (609)   ranked 1,342 out of 38,357 in life  1 year ago

I'm a believer but I also love science! It's been my favorite subject ever since 1st grade.
But when talking about the origin of life, I'm kinda stuck in the middle. LOL

myLot reputation of 85/100. DawGwath (453)   ranked 2,349 out of 38,357 in life  1 year ago

Well that is very good. Compared to you, I wasn't attracted to science in first grades, and just found the beauty of it a little too late in high school. But it was good for me, as I began to develop my critical thinking, not only in material phenomena, but also in social affairs like human rights and politics. And so I began to come out of my little box and see there is so much in this world than we think of.
As for you, I'm pretty convinced you might discover many things studying science, like I did and maybe even change you perspective about life. Anyway, have fun;)

myLot reputation of 86/100. ronreyes (609)   ranked 1,342 out of 38,357 in life  1 year ago

I won't argue that science gave us so much knowledge! That's why I love it since I'm a learner. However, as much as possible, I wouldn't let science influence my faith. It's always been a personal choice; I want my faith to become a part of me.

Well, I have actually gone through the point of voicing out my belief with people who have already closed their doors to listening. And found out that dealing with these people is only a waste of my time and energy. And believe me, I learned the hard way.

So, if someone ever comes to me and tells me that there is no God. Then I'd simply say, "if you believe so, then so be it" "but, you can't convince me to follow your way of thinking, because it's not me who created that in your mind.":)

You see, people who go professing their beliefs so much are what I call, 'false believers'. If they believe it too much, then why do they want to convince others? I mean, isn't it the same with 'misery loves company' type of talk? hehehe.. Don't get me wrong, they'd always claim that they want to 'save' us from our 'false beliefs' but well, I don't need to convince them of my beliefs because I already know what I believe is true.

Only those who claim and force others to believe them need people to listen. Simply because, they themselves want to be assured that what they're thinking is true.

So there you go. When they do come, I just simply ignore and smile.

myLot reputation of 86/100. ronreyes (609)   ranked 1,342 out of 38,357 in life  1 year ago

Good one! I love your response. To be honest, I'm quite disturbed about people who persistently force their beliefs to other people. I mean it's okay to give opinions but this activity is totally way out of line.

myLot reputation of 95/100. laydee (3975)   ranked 1,142 out of 38,357 in life  1 year ago

There's only one answer to that question:

They're actually trying to convince themselves more than they're trying to convince you. They feel that if they did convince you then they are right on their belief.

I will just agree with him.
He is right. Because that is his belief.
If a Theist comes and tell me "There is God", I will agree with him.
Because that is his belief.
But if someone says "God Exists", I will certainly not agree with that statement.
You dont need god to create this wonderful universe. A creator could not have done this work, that much is a Truth. Creation as given in religious books are full or errors that does not stand the scrutiny of a small child, so forget about scientific scrutiny.

Let me become a Atheist today in this discussion.
you said we were all created by god.
well, lets assume that is a fact for this discussion.
God created Us.
Now tell me who creted God?
its a valid argument.
before creation where was God?
What was he doing then?
Before creation, there was nothing. That is a fact.
if there was something before creation, the whole bible/koran stories collapses.
Out of what did god create everything?
Everything came out of something. And that is a certainty.
IT has to be out of something.
But before creation there was nothing.
When there was nothing before creation, where was god staying?
Before putting adam & eve into garden of eden, or before garden of eden where was god staying.
of was garden of eden existed before creation?
And god of bible and koran had a definite image, something like us.
remember he created human beings in his image.
so before creating man, where did he look to see have a clear view of how he looked like. remember before creation there was no mirror or anything where you can look and see your clear image.
the link in the chain starts to break when such questions start to arise.

There are many questions that arise when you starts to think logically.
This is my part as an Atheist.
I am just trying to enjoy my role here and have some fun.
Hope we all are going to have a great discussion here.
Waiting eagerly to don my Theist role sometime later in an appropriate discussion.
till then
Happy mylotting.

myLot reputation of 86/100. ronreyes (609)   ranked 1,342 out of 38,357 in life  1 year ago

This is the reason why I'm kinda stuck in the middle when it comes to the origin of life. And I think there's no point of asking the question "Who created God?"

Because we can also apply that same logic with science. I mean if the Big Bang theory was a fact, then what's there in space before it occurred?
Where does colors came from if in the beginning there was nothing, a complete darkness?
Colors are not evolving right!?!

I just find it hard to believe that a single explosion or an accident can make this universe beautiful and unique.

It's like when I try to look around and see the captivating beauty and design in everything, that's where my faith comes in.

Maybe there is a designer. Maybe there is a creator. Kinda like saying when there's a smoke, there is a fire. And when there is an invention, there is an inventor!

"If there's a beginning of everything, then what's the beginning of that particular beginning?"

Now apply this thought with science and you'll see a great chance that you'll find yourself stuck in the middle.

You're right about your last paragraph.

It's like we're alive with no definite beginning. Like a never-ending sessions of questions and answers.

For now, as a believer, I think all I have to say is...

"Who created God? I don't know!
If ever there is, I don't care!
I'll just live my life and enjoy every second of it.
When I die and found out that God does exist, that's good! And I know that's the perfect time where I'll have the best answers to life's greatest questions."

I would say to them:

Then how did the sky get here? Why is it the color blue? Where did the sun, moon and stars come from? Also how about the grass, trees, animals? How do you explain where humans came from? Obviously everything and everyone got here somehow.

I like to respond with the gambler's logic. If you gamble that there is a God, and you try to live a virtuous life and do good and love your neighbor; Then, when you die, if God and Heaven and Hell do exist, you will be rewarded with Eternal Life in Heaven. If there is no God, you will just have lived a mostly peaceful life and you haven't lost anything. If you bet that there is no God and you live your life accordingly, not following His commandments; Then when you die, if there is no God, you will have won the bet with nothing to show for it. BUT, if there is a God and a Heaven and Hell, you will spend eternity burning in the fires of Hell. You will have lost EVERYTHING!
I believe in God! Happy MyLotting..... happyhappy
