If an ATHEIST tells you "There is no God!" |
|
What will be your reaction? And what will you say to him/ her?
This discussion is for everybody to respond to, both atheists and believers.
Obviously, atheists will agree to this statement, so I hope you'll respond with your best atheistic manner. Like a "no-care" type of response.
Same goes with the believers. If you want to justify this with a Bible verse or a Koran verse, that's fine.
Ok, I'll go first.
I'm a believer, and either of these three statements will be my response:
1.) "Right, and there's no air to breathe as well!" 2.) "...and there's no explosion that has the ability to make all things unique!" 3.) "No God? So we all came from nothing? An Accident happened in the midst of darkness? Where does colors came from then?"

41. Tianna2 (1087) | 1 year ago | My first question to atheists is if you truly dont believe in a god, why do you feel the need to preach that there is no god? Why are you so afraid of others that do believe? I cant quite understand why non-believers feel the need to try and take god away from everyone they posibly can.
Cheers, Tianna

| letsplayfast (28) | 1 year ago | well, I don't preach much, I don't go door to door with handouts, or advertise on bilboards about any atheist revival I might be having, but I know first hand what religion can do to people and families and I don't want my children involved in any way with it. Anything I can do to shield them from god and religion, I will do it, we should all be more educated on the subjects, not just blindly "believing" because thats how we grew up.

ronreyes (609) | 1 year ago | Tianna2, well there's nothing wrong with giving opinions. If an atheist tells you there is no God, it's your choice whether you want to argue with him or not.
But it's his opinion so we must respect that!

| 43. chandrikas (43) | 1 year ago | I am a firm believer of God. God according to me is nothing but an embodiment of positive energy. Everybody needs positive energy to live happily. You would feel some kinda energy pouring into your head if you had done meditation concentrating on the centre of your forehead or on the centre of your upper head. These are levels of meditation where one can feel tonnes of positive energy pouring into the body through one single point, the point of concentration. After meditating for an half an hour or so one can feel so happy and positive even about the worse of their problems. I know many people in my country who have got wealth by performing regular pujas(offerings) on fridays to our Hindu Goddess Mahalakshmi(Hindu Goddess of Wealth & Prosperity). Even I have started it and my lifestyle has improved a lot after that.As for the atheists, I really pity them for not having enjoyed the existence and feel of God in their lives. I know some atheists and I never argue about the existence of God with them bcoz they love such arguements as it gives way for them to criticize God more. So I just pity them and ignore their comments. I feel proud that God is always with me and always helps me.

ronreyes (609) | 1 year ago | Thanks for sharing your insights. So you're a Hindu? Can you share to me some information about your religion?
| |
|
|
| chandrikas (43) | 1 year ago | Yes I am a Hindu and I also respect other religions. Different religions are like different rivers that finally pours into one single ocean called God. Most of our Hindu Philosopies were written in this language called 'Sanskrit' which is considered to be one of the oldest languages of India. Hindu Philosophy talks about two main principles called 'Dhwaitha' and 'Adhwaitha' which was formulated by two great Hindu religious leaders called 'Ramanuja' and 'Adhi Shankara' respectively. 'Dhwaitha' indicates 'two' or 'one that is split into two' while 'Adhwaitha' indicates 'one' or 'that cannot be split'. There are followers of 'Dhwaitha' who believe that there is one God referred to as the 'Paramathma' and other living things referred to as the 'Jeevathma'. And there are followers of 'Adhwaitha' who believe that there is only one single 'Paramathma' and all 'Jeevathma' reside inside the 'Paramathma'. To be more precise, consider two sets 'Paramathma' and 'Jeevathma'. According to 'Dhwaitha' principle, 'Paramathma' and 'Jeevathma' are two different sets and according to 'Adhwaitha' principle all 'Jeevathma' are subsets of one single superset 'Paramathma'. There are many other philosopies which originated after this but these two alone are accepted majorly. My ancestors are followers of 'Adhwaitha' and so am I. We have the ashram of 'Adhi Shankara' at this place called 'Kancheepuram' in the south of India which is run by his followers. 'Adhi Shankara' was a genious and has written thousands of religious proses, poems and verses in Sanskrit. I love one of his poems called 'Kanaga Dhara' meaning 'shower of Gold' written by him on Goddess Mahalakshmi (Hindu Goddess of wealth and prosperity) which describes the beauty of the Goddess from her head to toe. So, that's about Hinduism and thanks for reading.

ronreyes (609) | 1 year ago | Wow! Thanks! Now I understand. I really love this line: "Different religions are like different rivers that finally pours into one single ocean called God."
In this life, it's not about your beliefs but it's how you live that matters.
I rather admire an atheist that has a good heart and had lived a good life than a self-proclaiming child of God that lives his/her life in hypocrisy.

44. hellcowboy (4851) | 1 year ago | If I met an Atheist and they tried to tell me there was no God most likely my reaction would be in disbelief of what they are trying to tell me,and then I would probably say to them without God we would not exist, because God created everything including humanity, and that if they want to believe there is no God then thats their choice, but I am not going to stand by and listen to it,and then I would walk away from them.

| 45. letsplayfast (28) | 1 year ago | Well, I don't think I am so much an atheist as I am agnostic. However, there seem to be two mainstream ways of belief (or non belief) each belief is just as ridiculous as the other, Big Bang? no doesn't make much sense I admit, God? to me makes even less sense. The bible says that god has "always been" that's the believers way making sense of a "god" well, the planet has "always been" too... Maybe people have "always been"? We just don't know, we do know that the bible is full to the brim with contradictions, stories of events that never happened, and depicts a god of hate, anger, vengeance, violence and torture. Why? because the people involved with religion 2000 years ago wanted to use it to control the lives, money and direction of the population, and they did! They used fire and brimstone to get what they wanted from the powers that were also. I will believe that we slipped through the cracks from another dimension 13 billion years ago, before I will accept the god portrayed in the bible. what will happen to all the people that died before jesus came to the earth and died for our sins? for 4000 years according to the bible, people lived and died without knowing the truth about god or salvation, what will happen to them on judgement day?

andalond (3388) | 1 year ago | Well that is when we turn our focus on man rather than God. There is a verse in the Bible for that too. We constantly look at our fellow man which really ruins us. We think of Christians as perfect but if you read the Bible those men that are described in the Old Testaments did some mistakes that God was not pleased with yet they repented and continued to walk with God. You speak of violence but what caused the violence? Sin entering the world has caused the violence. God is not ignorant of what goes on in this world. I read somewhere that He does not act as man does when he sees injustice, I thought about this too. When I talk about the Lord with my brother he says it's common knowledge as he puts it. Great he tells me that you have some sort of faith in something. I used to be really bad, probably just like anyone who doesn't believe yet God has brought me to where I am.

46. trisha_nava82 (1131) | 1 year ago | I would say yes there is a God and it wouldn't effect what I believe in. No matter what they said to me.
I would respond to that in
I'm sorry you feel that way, but you have your own beliefs and so do I. If there was no God you wouldn't be here and neither would I. Then who do you think created the earth, the grass, the trees, the water, the dirt so on and ect if there is no God.

47. drknlvly6781 (3165) | 1 year ago | If someone were to come to me and say that there were no God, I would say nothing beyond "You are entitled to your own beliefs." I am a believer in God, but I know that for a person to accept the existence of God, they have to make that choice in their own heart. There is nothing that I can say or do to prove otherwise, because for as many examples as I can give, that person can attribute them to other sources that they believe. Its like trying to explain the color green to a man who has been blind all their life. It can't be done. So why waste my breath trying to make them believe?
| |
| |
|
|
ronreyes (609) | 1 year ago | True! It's all about choices!
| |
|
|
drknlvly6781 (3165) | 1 year ago | Not only about choices, but about an open mind and heart. When a person comes to you and says that they don't believe in God, they are telling you upfront that their mind and heart are closed to that idea. There's no point in trying to explain and discuss the matter, because they have their belief, and they are sticking to it. It would only be a waste of time trying to prove to them God exists, because all efforts would fall on deaf ears.

| 50. Uallach (22) | 1 year ago | Generally, if someone has an opinion on something that differs from mine, I just leave it alone. Its not for me to change it. I wouldn't want someone trying to change my own beliefs. I would probably be rather put off.
If they believe there is no God, so be it. If i believe i have seen God, so be it.
I think one need only hold to their own beliefs, and respect another person's right to believe as they choose.

andalond (3388) | 1 year ago | Yes but as Christian we must tell everyone about the Lord. I believe in this because it just confirms that when we die we can never say "Lord I never heard of you, because God will say remember when I sent this person your way...you rejected what you heard." No person can honestly say they have never been approached by someone trying to deliver the word, can you agree? Maybe in some remote country but then there is a verse in the Bible that says about how can you deny there is a God when you look at the sunset, sunrise, etc...
| |
|
|
| Uallach (22) | 1 year ago | I think that if they have decided that there is no God.. then they have already been told that there is and simply do not believe. If they had not been told, I should think they would be asking.. What is god? and not stating that there is no God. That has nothing whatever to do with one's own relationship with God. I don't see how allowing someone to discover or not discover God for themselves is rejecting what i heard. It is not in my power to create belief, to think otherwise would be narcissistic. Not everyone who believes in God is christian.
