If an ATHEIST tells you "There is no God!" |
|
What will be your reaction? And what will you say to him/ her?
This discussion is for everybody to respond to, both atheists and believers.
Obviously, atheists will agree to this statement, so I hope you'll respond with your best atheistic manner. Like a "no-care" type of response.
Same goes with the believers. If you want to justify this with a Bible verse or a Koran verse, that's fine.
Ok, I'll go first.
I'm a believer, and either of these three statements will be my response:
1.) "Right, and there's no air to breathe as well!" 2.) "...and there's no explosion that has the ability to make all things unique!" 3.) "No God? So we all came from nothing? An Accident happened in the midst of darkness? Where does colors came from then?"

andalond (3388) | 1 year ago | Well you should pray for him. While he is alive there is hope that things can change. I wouldn't just accept it. I heard a poem one day on Mothers Day about a mom whose son was in prison. She did what a mother does till she died, which was pray that her son accept the Lord. Sometimes its so easy to say forget it. I have had people that die around me and you don't know how it is heavy on my soul that I didn't speak up.
Let me tell you this... a week ago I wanted to send some Christian songs to family members who either were curious about God or had walked away. I have been thinking this for some time but last week I sat and wrote them cards with a CD in it. I thought here I am wasting time on people who don't care anything other than to live. Yesterday I got a letter from one of them. She said that she was on the edge of quitting her walk with God because she was frustrated. She broke down and prayed to God. When she got home she found the CD plus the card and she said that she knew God had heard her prayer. I wanted to cry. Here I thought on this side she was lost yet God knew that He has plans for her but to not give up. She didn't have to write me back about it but it just confirmed what I was doing on this side. Keep working and going for God. The battle is hard yet peoples lives are at stake. God said follow me and I didn't want to because I'm swimming upstream with alot of people. My own sister has told me to be quiet about this God I speak of around a year ago she got in a car accident. She could of died then would I have done what I was supposed to do? There is always hope as long as we're alive

52. sutanhartanto (2561) | 1 year ago | both atheists and 'non atheists' are believers. a 'non atheist' believe there is god, an atheist believe there is no god. a believer believe something because he don't know exactly or don't know at all about the 'something' they believe. if you believe there are aliens, it means you don't exactly know about the existence of the aliens. if you have seen (or witness through any other ways) aliens, you don't need to believe it. you know it.
so, both 'atheist' believers and 'non atheist' believers don't exactly know if the god either exist or not exist. so, why bother about that? amongst the 'non atheist' believers also have different concepts about god. some believe god is fat, the other believe god is skinny. some believe god is tall, the other believe god is short....just for examples.
so, well, may i will say, 'no problem. we have different belief. we have different concept about god'
above all, god existence doesn't depend on our concepts. he won't be skinny only because some believers think that he is skinny. he won't be fat only because some believers think that he is fat. he won't extinct only because the 'atheist' believers think that he doesn't exist. he is beyond our concepts, our belief.
and, 'believe' is not the best. it's much better to 'become' than to 'believe'

| 53. aaorozco (9) | 1 year ago | I think we all need something to believe in. I believe we are all gods and that our soul evolves each life becoming a better being until you reach perfection. I do not dislike atheists just because I have something to believe in, I just feel sorry they don't, because having that hope drives you through life and makes your worries smaller. I do not believe in a bearded man sitting on a chair over a cloud, I believe in myself and what I am as spiritual being. We all create our reality, magic exists, and we can materialize everything we want to if it is for a good reason, we just need to open our eyes!

54. andalond (3388) | 1 year ago | Well I am a believer that Jesus Christ came to die for our sins. I have had discussions with people who don't believe and are confused. The first thing they say is "everyone has their own god so what is the difference?". Second some say that the religions are the same. People say christians are hypocrites. There are more but I can't go through all of them. I have to say that God is the only one who can reveal himself to someone to show them that he is the true God. I think people need to pick up the Bible and read it. You can easily be misled by religion if you don't know what is in Scripture. God is not a religion, and we are all sinners. I was reading the other day how not even having faith in times that you know God when trouble comes is sinning. I have had that happen so many times to myself in my walk with God. I have as many problems as the next person yet God gets me through things. Have you ever read the end of Job? I read it and it was so powerful...if God could talk to those who don't believe I'm sure he would say this as written in Job...38
Then the Lord answered Job out of the storm. He said: "Who is this that darkens my counsel with word without knowledge? Brace yourself like a man; I will question you, and you shall answer me. "Where were you when I laid the earth's foundation? Tell me, if you understand. Who marked off its dimensions? Surely you know!.... Have you ever given orders to the morning, or shown the dawn its place, that it might take the earth by the edges and shake the wicked out of it? ...
At the end of Job the Lord speaks of how the earth functions and it just makes you think about even the little things that we often don't. Now if the Creator of this universe is so awesome to do the things He describes then who are we?
Job answers God back in Job 42 "You asked, "who is this that obscures my counsel without knowledge? Surely I spoke of things I did not understand, things too wonderful for me to know. "You said, Listen now, and I will speak; I will question you, and you shall answer me." My ears had heard of you but now my eyes have seen you. Therefore I despise myself and repent in dust and ashes."

56. InfiniteN (254) | 1 year ago | I would say, "I believe it's a possibility, but no one can say with 100% certainty.", and I'm an atheist--I choose not to believe in anything at the moment.

|
InfiniteN (254) | 1 year ago | Since nothing is 100% certain, I can choose from multiple beliefs, depending on what I think suits me best at any time in life. Subjective reality is something I might try in the future, then there's the belief this is the matrix, then there's various forms of theism, as well as the belief that before we entered this world, I was standing in front of an arcade machine and had just dropped a coin into it before I was transported here as baby.

| 57. jbe570 (20) | 1 year ago | I have read some very good discussion on this thread. I believe that God is omnipotent. He also has other galaxies, planets, the entire infinte universe to oversee.
I do not pretend to know God's will. I also have my doubts about total freewill. I could point you to several Biblical scriptures as well as the writings of Martin Luther that bring doubt on the freewill theory. But, I believe we do have a degree of freewill. God says He wants our love; He does not demand our love. He loves us regardless, but He is saddened if we do not choose Him.
As to addressing an atheist, if that person is not to the point of having a hardened heart, you might be able to make headway. My best response to "There is no God," is "Well, you better be right for the sake of your soul, because if you are wrong, you will wake up in eternity, but not in eternal bliss of love."
Faith in God gives us hope, and what harm is there in that? If I really believe in God, and in Jesus, His Son, then it does not harm anyone but may make me more tolerant of others. If God does not exist, I will die and will enter into complete blackness, not cognizant of anything. So, no harm. But if I don't believe in God and He exists, then when I die, my soul will be in eternal torment.
By the way, the term "Mother Nature" is purely an invention of mankind. God himself is spirit, the Son is flesh, and the Holy Spirit or Comforter, is also spirit who comes to live within us as a guide/friend if we so invite the Spiit to do so. If God is actually Spirit, then God is neither male or female. I refer to God as a Him for the sake of cultural acceptance, convenience.

ronreyes (609) | 1 year ago | "Faith in God gives us hope, and what harm is there in that?" I love that line!
I mean faith in God won't do anything to harm you; it won't make you crazy; it won't kill you or give you any diseases. I consider faith as something personal. If people chose to have it, that's fine. Same goes to those people who chose not to.

Everyone has a right to their own opinion and God also says not to judge. So I dont think I would say anything to them. Besides the fact that I do believe there is a God.

Scientists the world around can try to deceive you or persuade you that it was this or that, or we could fund their programs. But no matter, I know that there is a god. I see him everday because of the beauty that surrounds me. His magnificence is all around us.
